hello welcome to design time I'm Jackie lacy today we thought we'd spend a little time talking about creating line within your designs using various types of foliage I always try to to remind people that one of the easiest places for me to start with any design is to use my line to set my form therefore I kind of see a beginning and end it's sort of like creating boundaries so with the line I create the space that I'm going to design within always starting with either the tallest the longest the widest piece and then creating the various boundaries going from there this will help you create the form so that as you begin to add in your floral product and work through completing your design everything you do reinforces those lines and that form because if your line is strong and your form is strong anytime someone views the design they will easily be able to pick up on both of those so as we look at the various foliages that I've got around here a lot of things are very simple that you can start with using these particular leaves all this product came out from around my house because we're in a time where we don't everything readily available for us but using this broad very stiff tropical foliage we can create very sharp distinctive line and even just a small piece like this and then whatever product we decide to put with that we can easily play off of the lines that we've already created by making sure it stays within that realm of what we want the finished composition to be looking at various ways to strengthen both what we've already got in here and what we're going to add with each piece that we add in afterwards so we have this very vertical design that we've started with here but broad-based leaves are very easy to use as you can see with this particular one I've taken the edges of them and just split them so that I could curl them up very easily and therefore it covers both some of the mechanical covering down at the bottom with the foliage that extends like that and then also by creating that line that I've already started to add into that particular design as we look at another very distinct foliage a sense of area a mother's law hung very turgid it's great for creating those various pieces where you want to add a little accent and keep it very natural and you can begin to layer it you might also want to look at the natural curve of the foliage what type of line would that in itself be able to create because this could easily go on the horizontal like so which is going to add in that beautiful curve to the the foliage that's already in there into the next piece we may have to cut down a...
