[Music] hello and welcome back to another office tech edu podcast video tutorial today i will be talking about how to do multiple conditional formatting inside check boxes in google sheets i did a video on check boxes in 2018 when they first came out in google sheets and i wasn't really quite sure um how else they might be used outside of an educational setting the first thing that came to mind was creating attendance for the after school clubs and the tutoring services and then also to create task lists for myself with um within my job so that way i can mark off when things have come in and when i've sent them back out for signatures so lately however um the video that i made in 2018 has picked up a little bit of traffic and i've gotten some questions and one of the questions i got last week was if i do conditional formatting in one column and then do conditional formatting of another color in the next column if both of the columns have been checked how do i get it to be the same color i had some free time so i sat down and i played with it because while i know that a lot of the formulas are from excel are now transferable to google sheets um i needed to make sure that i was going to be able to give this person a proper answer and it turns out it's really easy to do but it needs to be done in a certain order so when you first set up your check boxes the value that is automatically set from data validation is going to be true or false so if it's checked it would be true and if it's not checked it would be false but you need to reset your data validation checkbox um value sorry uh in order for this multiple conditional formatting to work the way that this viewer wanted it to work so go to data validation um let me highlight my checkboxes and i'm going to make these all oops check boxes and you're going to select use custom cell values it'll automatically be true or false but we're going to make this a one and a zero so if it's checked it'll give you the value of one and if it's unchecked it'll give you the value of zero and we're going to go ahead and click on save and you can tell by looking up here that your value says one and when you deselect the checkbox it's then again back to zero okay so now that our data validation has been set up we're going to have to enter in the conditional formatting in a particular order so what i found out when i was trying to help the viewer out is that the multiple conditional formatting actually needs to be done first we're going to highlight the two columns and...
