hello everyone welcome to tip Tuesday um today is for you hopeful adoptive parents out there we are going to be going over some of the home study questions that you will be asked in your next home study visit so the first step to the home study is that initial home study interview and one of the things one of the tips that I want to give you adoptive families is to ask your social worker all the questions part of your home study is to help educate in your home city process you will learn about the process of adoption the risks involved the fees and reasons for adopting as well as your parenting styles and they will also meet with your other children make sure that you're open and honest about any concerns that you may have talk to your social worker um because we want you to be comfortable with moving forward with adoption and this is the time to do it during your home study you will be doing what it's called a match sheet and you will decide what race gender and what special needs you're open to as well as other things that will help you decide what works best for your family if you choose that adopting a child of a different race is something that you're open to that's great and we support you in that but one of the questions you may be asked is how are you going to help a child of another race celebrate their heritage and become connected to those to those who look like them you want to find role models and other people in your community that have the same skin color have the same culture have the same ethnicity that will help your child in adjusting another question you might be asked is how does your family neighbors and friends feel about you adopting and if you are adopting a different race how do they feel about adding that race to your family another thing we'll touch on is the openness level that you are comfortable with openness can mean so many different things for so many different people it can mean texting photos on a daily basis or it could mean you have each other's contact information and you can contact where necessary the next thing we'll talk about in the initial interview is what led you to adoption how did you get to this point where you're moving forward with adoption to grow your family have you been able to deal with your infertility issues and have you been able to grieve your infertility the next question you'll be asked is do you feel financially ready to adopt and what have you done to prepare yourself financially for this process if you have other children in your family they will be interviewed as well we'll ask about their age their personality their physical development we will also talk to you about...
