hey guys welcome to this video my name is john watts i'm a consumer protection lawyer i want to talk to you about the three types of dispute letters you can send to a debt collector and i'm not talking about anything under the fair credit reporting act we'll cover that at a different time but really under the fdcpa the fair debt collection practice exact so let me tell you first of all what these letters are then we'll go through each one and give a little bit of detail and then talk about how do we combine or use these together and when should we not use these together and i also want to let you know we are having a free webinar this coming thursday so that would be the 17th if my memory is correct but anyway this thursday at 11 a.m central time there'll be a link to sign up for that in the description and in the comments below and we'll go into this in much more detail give templates and form letters and all that type of stuff so let's talk about first of all what are these three types of letters well there's just a dispute letter and then there's a letter where you're requesting more information and then there's a refuse to pay letter so let's look at each one of those so what's a dispute letter well not shockingly it's a letter it says i dispute any and all debts that you claim to have on me now i like it worded that way because what if the account number that you write is one two three four and what if they really have the account number is one two four three well even though they have your name your address last four of your social date of birth they'll go hey we didn't know what this was so i just like to say any and all debt because it might have two accounts and you think they only have one and so you just simply say you dispute it okay my view is that unless there's something unusual that should be present in any letter that you send think of that as your foundation now what's letter number two letter number two is a request for information now and i've done this in the past too called the validation letter verification load the reason i i kind of go away from using those terms now is there's so much misinformation out there and people who have no idea what they're talking about are just arguing about it's not a validation letter it's a verification letter vice versa and they missed the point what's the point of this type of letter it's to gather information hey tell me who the creditor is hey give me a copy of the contract give me monthly statements give me a copy of the purchase agreement and so i'm borrowing this term request for...
