thank you the Russian Navy is split between three bodies of water the Arctic the Pacific and the Black Sea Russia has never been able to amass Naval power because of this because they're they're split I mean China's such a a large geographically large country um also China has a real problem with a lack of warm water ports a lot of their ports are built up with ice for much of the Year meaning it's very difficult for Russia to project Naval power so I look at this Russia says they're going to expand their ship production and I I don't think this is going this is going to change Naval Russian naval power however Naval power is most often a deterrent especially when we talk about ballistic submarines especially when we're talking about Russian submarines operating in the Atlantic we've talked about this many times before we we've had officials from USC lift command and also Naval officials talk about how difficult it would be to run across Atlantic operations from the United States to Europe when you have Russian submarines operating in the Atlantic and so I this this looks to me like um not a build up of Russian naval power but uh probably a deterrent I mean you put a a nuclear-capable Russian submarine off the coast of uh you know Norfolk or somewhere and uh the United States can have a real real problem on its hands uh with regard to Russian deterrence by the way I'm gonna bring Jared on Jared do you have any other any other uh comments or considerations on uh that was your report but do you have any other thoughts on this to share yep I think uh what he's doing here is actually really indicative of the trend that we're seeing in Navy's overall but one that started in Russia because rather than going oh hey here's this brand new giant Destroyer or uh nuclear Cruiser they pushed out submarines and Corvettes and Corvettes for those who don't know are barely larger than submarines they're really really small ships but they're just big enough to be blue water capable and the ones that he's putting that they're putting out are VLS capable so they can carry the they can carry the caliber missiles that are essentially equivalent to our tomahawks and they now can shoot the um the Onyx anti-ship missile so they've got a pretty significant standoff range and what what this is really showing is that you know rather than going hey you know here's a bunch of big stuff that's really easy to hit they're rapidly pumping out a bunch of smaller vessels and even though no it probably won't make Russia a global Naval power that is something to be very very aware of as they enter the European sphere because everybody every other European nation is somewhat backing off on Naval power right now um that's interesting so this would be...
