[Music] hello youtubers and fellow hams well today we're going to continue with our Linux theme a little bit and we're looking at SDR software software-defined radios and decoding with FL digi from your SDR receiver you know how do you do that two separate programs running on the same machine and you need to get that audio somehow into FL digi so that's what we're going to talk about today so let me let me get FL digi running and all right so here's FL digi and we're going to go into configure and we're going to go to sound card now what we're going to want to do usually I'd have this on port audio because I would be choosing a specific capture device and playback device if I had a rig interface hooked up you know like a signal link or whatever but I'm going to choose pulseaudio now pulse audio is an audio server built into your system that takes audio from different programs mixes it to send to the speaker and provides other services like you can stream audio over a network with it or pipe audio from one application to another which is what we're going to get into here so NFL digi I'm choosing pulseaudio as my source I'm going to save and I'm going to close now to pipe audio around within pulseaudio we need one other program so I'm going to go and I'm going to run synaptic package manager which I've talked about before for installing software and we're going to go search for pulse audio and if I scroll down here P AV you control pulse audio volume control this is sort of an extended mixer for pulseaudio now I've already installed it but you'd check the box here and you'd mark for installation and then hit apply to install it but that's what you need to install PA vu control ok once you've got that installed let me go up here and we'll start my SDR receiver all right so I've got GQ rx we'll use that real popular one for Linux and I've got a nest rtl-sdr dongle plugged in on the USB port right now so I'm going to start that and you can hear we got some static actually let me pause that so we don't okay one thing you might use an SDR receiver for would be receiving weather fax transmissions from a satellite right good example if you have an SD are capable of HF you might want to receive and decode digital modes like radio teletype PSK you know or things like that or CW you know or you might want to record the audio with audacity this method will apply to all those things alright so I'm going to use NOAA satellites as an example now I went and looked at G predict and looked at the satellite passes and I was going to do it live I was just going...
