hi um this is STI I live in the US and I'm planning to travel to India this July uh to attend an event and so I'm planning to carry some of my gold jewelry to India and I'll be I'll be returning again with that jewelry so I wanted to make sure um uh there is no issue with the Customs when I come back so I came to know about this registration form with Customs so there is something called a CB form 445 file that we could use to register the jewelry that we have now in us um that way that will be treated as your personal item and when you come back with that jewelry you will not be charged any Customs on that jewelry so you would find this form online um when you just search for this um CBP form 4455 uh you would go to the Customs Bure and protection website and there you could download it and you could just fill up the form online online and you could print it um so um the process is every location uh within us would have a customs Port of Entry office you have to go to that office along with the CPP 4455 form and you have to take all your jewelry along with you and also your if you're on a Visa you need to take um your passport and another ID like a driver's license and um the customs officer had asked me um to print um to take pictures of my jewelry and kind of print them and then attach it to this form so the CBP form looks something like this and um there's a section called carrier where you would need to fill your um Airline details if you've already booked your tickets um they ask you to fill in your flight details and um your different hops along the way and all that would go into your career section and then there's something called a date where you would put in your travel dates and there's a section to fill in your address and there is another section to fill in your um jewelry details so I was planning to carry uh one uh box with all my gold jewelry in it so in the number of packages I just gave one and then I filled in all my jewelry details and then I signed in front of him and dated um and um so the person the Customs officer there had asked me to be very specific in describing my jewelry uh so I took pictures like this and I put a serial number like 1 2 3 4 for all my jewelry and um I've um mentioned very clearly that these are like gold Bangles and there 10 of them this is a gold chain which has like ball shapes and then this is a gold chain which has some bell shapes and then this one has the stones um white stones with the red St Stone in it so I specified exactly what each of them are instead of generally saying gold jewelry I said like one necklace with white stones and then two earrings and so on so that's how detailed you need to be and um the officer would um go through each of this item that you mentioned here and we'll ask you to show your real jewelry and he would validate uh these two things and he would then uh put in a sign uh his own sign and he would put in a stamp like this on this paper on this um form and also on the other Pages where I have jewelry pictures so um that's the whole process and um he asked me to carry this paper when I'm traveling um and when I return back to the US I just need to show this form in the Customs uh to the Customs officer in my Port of Entry and they would just validate and if I just have this the jewelry that I'm carrying I wouldn't have to to pay any Customs for it but if I bring in any new jewelry or any other monetary instruments I need to fill in the Customs form that we are usually given in the fight and um the the officer told me that anything greater than $800 you definitely need to mention that and um it's up to the Customs officer to determine whether whether they would put in some Duty for us or not some officers might just let us leave without anything but some of might um ask us to pay some Duty um and then um sometimes I online when you just Google about it there's a note saying that if you have anything about $10,000 then you need to declare them for sure but the officer here in in the location that I live in he said that anything beyond $800 um could be dyable so uh to be safe just declare any expensive items that you bring in and um avoid all the hassle because uh he specifically mentioned that if you don't claim or if you don't declare what you're bringing and let's say if they catch you um it is a very serious offense and they can seize all your jewelry they can put a lot of fines for you um so just paying like 5% tax or whatever it is for that gold item is much uh simpler um and cheaper option uh rather than uh going through all that pain and hassle uh dealing with Customs officers at later Point um so that's about it I hope this was helpful I'll put a picture of this uh uh sample form um so I'm hoping all of you have a safe travel and you wouldn't have any problem caring your jewelry thank you bye
