basically a tariff system that works in over 200 countries was followed in over 200 countries that basically says here's all the commodities and all the possibilities of things that can be imported and here's a numeric system that classifies all these in the categories and makes it easy for everybody across the board to figure out how much it's gonna cost the import and export these products so view we're gonna show you how to find the HS code line up to your product and hopefully make sure that it is accurate and then we'll go from there and show you exactly how to look it up specifically in the United States so you can get selling on Amazon figure out exactly what your duty code is gonna be of course one of the biggest things about HS codes and duty and everything like that is what the product is being used for if US customers lose the product is being used for something else the HS code that you look up or suggest may not necessarily be accurate so make sure some of the stuff we've seen are bags and things like that that can be used for a lot of different uses so be careful make sure that your HS code is accurate to the use if you have a very generic product like that but hey let's jump on the computer and I'll show you guys how to look up HS code so let's start all right guys first you're gonna have to get your HS code and there's a few ways of doing this the simple way is just to ask the supplier or even look to see if it's on your invoice that they may have already given you and let me give you a quick pro tip while we're doing that when you go through customs later down the line to help you get the accurate HS code to your broker always a good idea to put the HS code on the invoice and sure it's accurate though because customs does not like it when people try to change the HS code to favor that a tax rate alright so if the supplier doesn't have it which is pretty uncommon here's a simple trick for Google I'll show you pop up Google and ya type in let's say for example if you're you have a football football HS code pretty simple and I'm usually you're gonna pull up a bunch of sites a lot of them are these random sites from all over the place I like duty calculator the most this is the one I tend to reach for the most it seems to give the most results 141 countries and let's give that a click but oh wait there is no more duty calculator comm and I you have to have some subscription and all that so it's out of business hold on quick trick go down here and click cached awesome here we go turns out you're in luck because there's no duty rate for footballs which is awesome you just have to pay merchandise processing fee which is a super small fee I believe it ends up being a minimum of either 25 or 35 dollars and around point zero zero three percent or something like that your invoice so let's say your manufacturers duty rate is 3% 5% something like that which is a pretty normal rate it'd be 5% of the invoice value has mentioned I'm pretty straightforward so if you just have the code itself and you don't know how to get the actual you know let's say for example you grabbed it from up here you know anything like this you could say we couldn't get on duty calculator maybe for example it didn't work for you and you just have the code here's the official government site and I'm gonna give this to you guys and the links below down in the description and this is gonna help you the last four digits quick tip the last four digits are actually gonna change from country to country so what you're gonna want to do and you plug this in is make sure you get rid of the last four and keep the only the first six there's usually a period after the first four so that kind of makes it easier so delete the last four have the first six digits if you find it off anywhere else duty calculators usually gonna have the full duty in there which is gonna help you so let's go with that and sure enough inflatable balls footballs and you can see how it kind of breaks down by number so your code would be nine five zero six six to four oh four Oh seaming yours you're an American football not a football come sorry guys so yeah you're gonna go free and that's it you have no tax to pay and you can see these other ones here like basketballs they have a 4.8% percent tax so it looks like the US government feels the need to tax basketballs but not footballs maybe basketball is not an American enough sport for them who knows I don't know how they come up with these numbers but that's pretty much it that's all you need to know and yeah again these vary from country to country this is United States I'm gonna put the links below so you guys can find all this stuff and yeah it's based on duty duty rate is based on invoice value high rock highly recommended that you keep it accurate suppliers are gonna ask you I'm gonna be honest US Customs isn't not stupid do not try to write the invoice to a lower value in China the suppliers are gonna ask you if you're interested in doing that once in a blue moon it also your insurance value with your shipper is going to be based on that as well it's not worth it so yeah last but not
