today we're doing child dedications now maybe you don't know what child dedication is maybe you didn't grow up in a tradition or haven't been in a church where you have seen child dedications so allow me just to explain it these parents these families that are coming here today have all said they wanted to express to God and to you their willingness and their desire to dedicate their children you know we see in the Bible for example example Samuel and Jesus we see their parents taking their children to the temple and saying God we realize this is a gift from you and we want to do all that we can to raise this child in your ways and we rely upon the faith community you've placed us in God to really help us to raise this child in your ways and so that's what we do here a journey we offer the opportunity for parents to dedicate their children and so first of all we're dedicating the children's moms and dads are saying you know what I recognize this child is a gift from God and so we want God to do everything possible to provide this child with the best opportunity to be successful in life and to follow him all of their days but secondly we're also dedicating the parents you know most of these kids up here they're not going to remember that they went through child dedications but moms and dads will and so we're dedicating the parents saying to these these parents are saying in essence you know what I realize that more is caught than taught I realize that I can teach a whole lot of stuff audibly but really how I live my life is gonna speak more than what I really say and so they're dedicating their own lives and they're saying you know what I am willing to live a god-honoring life so that my child my child can see that lived out in front of them and then third we're dedicating you you maybe you didn't know that you're getting dedicated today but we are dedicating you because it takes it takes all of us to show an example of these children as they grow up here at journey that God is a route God is real and he's alive I think about it these children are going to be forming their opinion about spirituality based not only on their parents but also based on how you live your life and so if you live your life where we live our lives in a way that's contradictory to what they're getting on a home they're gonna think something's not quite right and so if you remember here journey I just like you stand right now if you've gone through the membership process and you're a member stand to your feet right now members of journey you know you're already committed to being here you know that you want to make journey the best that can be and so I'm just going to be asking you today will you do all that you can do to live a godly life in front of these individuals will you help these parents as they raise these children in God's ways if so will you answer I will good see how lucky you are to have look at these good-looking people out there and so let me just pray as we get started God you hear our hearts we're all standing here and we are totally wanting God to be a community of faith community that does honor you and how we live and got thank you for these parents and I pray that you would guide them and direct them as they raise their children in Jesus name Amen you may be seated all right the sham hearts look like they're first they're coming over they're gonna bring Olivia and they're also going to bring in Berkeley I'm not gonna hold Olivia probably not a bad idea but maybe Berkeley come on Berkeley come on over mom and dad it's okay you can get in here from everybody I'll hold you even though you're wearing a giant bill but what is he doing he's wearing a Giants bib I guess being named Berkeley and you know I was probably hopes here to do right yeah don't don't fall all right well what I did is I actually spent some time and looked up the meaning to their names Olivia your name means from olives so I don't know what that means for you but that's what your name means but your middle name is Mary and it means bitter it means bitter woo Berkeley means from birch tree and mark is warlike and so I'm gonna pray for you guys in light of your names okay is that Alright can you come on hey I can do this watch this is gonna work just fine let's pray all right God thank you for these children thank you God that the sham arts have been given this these great blessings in their life and God I just pray that you would help these children to grow strong to be men and women of God I pray for Olivia that she would be really productive got in her spirituality like an olive tree is she would bear much fruit for you God I also pray for Berkeley that you would make him strong and mighty that he would be a man of God all of his days they gotta pray for the sham hearts that you would guide them and direct them help them to be great parents of them to know how to interact with their children in wise ways and God I pray that you would just guide their steps in each and every way in Jesus name Amen amen see you're gonna be fruitful like an olive tree see how that works hey give these guys a round of applause will ya yeah go ahead that kid weighs like 900 pounds yeah yeah that was a stretch who's up next oh we got the Joneses they are bringing Adam come on over buddy welcome them up will ya welcome them up there you go all right let's see you come to me man well you come to me with Dead and Myles standing right there yeah let's get this belly thing down here but there you go all right he's a cutie isn't he and he's heavy too how are you well his name means from the earth and Shane is his middle name it means God is gracious so we are just gonna be praying on for the Joneses and also praying for this little guy right here Adam so let's join with me God thank you for adding and thank you God for giving him to the Joneses God and I just pray that you would bless them and guide them and direct them in every way and god I pray that out and would be a man that expresses the kingdom here on earth that God you had worked through him in a mighty way and that you would use him raise him up God to change this generation that he that he lives in and God would pray you to protect him from the enemy and keep him solid in tune with you and again God guide these parents direct them give them great wisdom help them to guide this little gift that you have given them in Jesus name Amen amen congratulations guys good you did good all right here come Eric and Sarah alejandro I've been waiting for you guys to come up here Eric's actually in process to become one of our elders he's been going to journey ever since journey first opened his doors so I can I can actually sing this to you Eric and Sarah alejandro alejandro come on that was a good one right yeah sorry all right this is Jonathan Jonathan Lewis hey buck you come to me is that all right come here yeah you're gonna be everyone oh all right hey that's a good smile right there the camera yeah okay Jonathan Lewis gift of God is Jonathan and Lewis means Fame so good job on picking the names I know you didn't really look up the names before he did but great job you you got some good ones there and we're glad that you're a part of the family buddy when we are so glad that you're part of the family and I just want to pray for you okay is that all right can we pray let's pray God thank you for Jonathan god I just pray that you would continue to work in his life thank you that you have given the Alejandro's this gift that this gifts come straight from you and God I pray that you would continue to guide Jonathan and continue to have your hand in his life I please be working in the Alejandro's life guiding them and directing them God giving them great wisdom to raise their children in the fear of God and we pray that you would continue to provide for them as you already have got we look forward to what you're going to do and their lives and in Jonathan's life in Jesus name Amen amen hey one more time round of applause here
