when hiring top performers for your company the first step is to screen the resumes and select the best ones for the first job interview I'll talk about how to go through those resumes in this video once you've posted your job advertisement and you could refer to my last article and video about how to best do that you'll probably start receiving quite a few resumes you want to go through those resumes quite quickly because you're looking for top performers and they're often hard to find and they're the most sought after as well so you want to act quickly you want to prepare that process by making a list of the top knowledge skills and experience that are essential for the job when you go through the resumes you could quickly see if the person qualifies according to those skills knowledge and experience once you've selected the best candidates based on their resume you may want to set up a phone interview I like to do this to validate their language skills and communication styles I usually take no longer than 10 minutes on the phone prior to the first interview I like to use an assessment the step one survey from profiles international I like this because it provides a work history work experience it also gives insight into their attitude regarding integrity reliability and work ethic it also delves into questions about theft and this is for property data and time so it's a very useful assessment it also gives interview questions that you could use during the first interviews this saves a lot of time because it pinpoints things that you should discuss with the candidate to clarify and it also generates interview questions around those items this way I don't have to write my own questions about those particular points and thus it does save me time there as well it's widely known that up to 50% of what's on a resume is exaggerator or embellished in some way so it's really important that delve into what the person is saying what they're claiming and so that you could validate if it's true and that will come also later when we talk about the reference checking so in the next videos I'll talk about the interview process also cover the reference checking and other assessment tools that you can use as well I hope you find these tips useful here's some videos that are related that you can watch right now subscribe to our channel to get news of new videos as they come out thanks for listening and talk again soon
