Initial docbook
hi this is van de holanda poor and this is the first video in the series of videos that I want to prepare for you and to show you how you can write books for O'Reilly and using your Mac OS X machine with Xcode for the first thing that you will need is to ask O'Reilly to set you up with an svn repository for your book and if they haven't already done that the please do let them know and you will also need the username username and password that you will need for your svn repository so in for the depth what this demonstration I have received an email from O'Reilly telling me that they have set up two books for me to repositories and they've created some skeleton files in there so we need some folders on our computer to store all the files that orally has set up under svn repository so let's have a look at the email that they've give them that they've sent me they say that they have set up to repositories first one here second one here and I already have my username and password so let's just go ahead and Xcode and I will just say file new workspace the reason I'm creating the workspace is because there are two projects that I have to manage at the same time each one being a separate book so I really don't want to be opening different windows of Xcode to be managing my both books at the same time I want both of them to appear on the left side of Xcode here at the same time so what i will do i'll say on desktop create a folder for me and call it books under books create a workspace and call it books and i will just say safe nice we got a bigger the workspace I'll just say file new project for each one of those books please do create an empty project it could either be an empty iOS project or a mac OSX project doesn't really matter just as long as an empty project that's that's all be really care about so I'll just say and I'll say first book and I will create it under books we do not want a git repository for these projects because these are going to be hooked with svn repository so i'll just say crate so the first book project has been created and i will create another project and it will call this one second book just make sure that you are creating the second book project under books folder and under the books workspace fantastic so the second books also create I'll just drag and drop the first woke up top doesn't really matter what they are just wanted to be correct so first book in second book nice that all we have to do is to set up the svn repository here so for that we just have to go to window organizer and the organizer window here just make sure that repository is selected up here press + and say add repository and since I have already put the password for my svn repository in my pasteboard I cannot really replace it so I'm going to have to type these URLs manually if you already have these URLs somewhere in an email you can literally copy and paste them in the location box here but I cannot do that at this time so for the name you just select any name doesn't necessarily have to correspond to the name that you've selected for your project in esco Xcode it could just be anything for the clarity of for the sake of clarity I say first book and I'll type the location here nice you can see this as host is reachable and the type just leave it to subversion and the next screen leave everything as they are press add and you can see that a first book repository has been added here the light is amber just because I have not entered my username and password yet so what I will do I will create the second repository I'll add it I'll just say second book the staff is going to be green here reachable type subversion again press next year now press add and the second book repositories at it now if you go to first book repository you can see that the pop-up appears asking for my username and password this is going to be the username and password that orally must have already set up for you to access their repositories if they have not done that please do let your editor no one that will create these use them and passwords for you so my username is type it here just put my password as I've already told you I have it in the pasteboard so I'll just say okay and as you can see the light turn to Amber s-sorry green this lights the lamb bruh let's click here I put my username their password nice both are now green and as you can see or Riley will already create this skeleton flaws for you under root for your asking repository so all I have to really do is to check these out for the first book I'll check out everything for the first books files under a folder files nice and for first book under a fuller called files i'll check all these files out you can see there's our progress going on here nice i think this is going to finish perfect and for the second book i will go here on the route i check out let's see i get all the files up here i'll say check out under second book as files and check out ok that is are also created i'll close all these if you look at the structure of the faucet that have been created here on the first book now we have a folder called files which contains all the ESN a repository files and also the second book scott files however these aren't really showing up in the project here we really do want them to appear in the xcode so all we have to do go to first book folder just drag the files from there and put it under first book make sure that you're not copying it again because they are already on the root folder for the first book make sure this isn't check checked and press finish do the same thing for the second book make sure that the funds are on their second book here make sure copy is in check their press finish awesome okay I've got the files for the first book and the second book and the way to prove that this this has already been set up with svn repository as for example you just go to one of these files let's say here and just say change the change something here i don't know i'll check i'll change my paragraph after saving that i've already saved it as you can see i just press command + S to save it or you could just go to file and save after you save something you change something you can see that the status of the file has been changed to modified with this M you just right click here and you say source control and commits whenever you want to put all your changes whenever you're happy with your local changes and you want to put them in the svn repository it's just right click on the modify files and just say source control and commit selected files and a window will appear will tell you on the left side it will tell you what you have changed as you can see it's highlighted for you and on the right side or the local are basically the server copies they might look a bit weird it's just because that I've changed change them before starting this tutorial for you so once you're happy with all your changes add a comment here I do recommend that you add a comment I'll just say I correct it the mistakes that were created there were a place in the repository this paragraph and once you're happy with a common press commit up here you can see that it's committing to svn repository for you and is gone nice the M isn't here anymore it's just because it's saying that you haven't modified before the file since the last time you committed to the SME repository and we're basically all set with our svn repository for our books the last thing that I want to tell you in this video is how you can set up the example codes for your books all you really have to do this example for this video tutorial them dumb then I've prepared for you just go ahead and create a full recall example code in each one of these books that you have so the second book will also have example codes all I have to do is just drag this again into the first book and for the second book the example code has to be dragged under a second booking great ok so we got the structure in Xcode I think this is this is really enough for the first tutorial so now you got the files from the essay repository you got your example code there in the next video tutorial I want to tell you about the basics of dhaka book and how you can start writing your books using xcode four and using docbook schema and how you can basically Vallot validate whatever you're typing because you're going to be typing in XML so you really need to know if the thing is that you've typed in your book are actually valid I hope you enjoyed this video if you have any questions or doubts please do let me know thank you
