thank you everybody for coming my name is Lara McLaughlin and I work as part of the Mid East Toronto sub-region team and we've been working to hello welcome just have a seat on the topic of really strengthening discharges from hospital to the community and there's been a working group that has come together representing hospital shelter dropping in respite and community services who have put together this workshop series this is the first of five workshops taking place this fall and we've called the series the community hospital homeless health education and learning series it's a lot and this is the capacity assessments and consents workshop and our speakers today are Nicole Schroeder and dr. Mark Blackmon great so the first 40 minutes or so we're gonna go over the content we're going to look at informed consent and the legal framework for consent what is capacity and the legislation that determines it definitions and responsibilities relating to decision making on financial capacity and psychiatric treatment then we'll spend 20 minutes looking at three case studies some of which were shared from community organizations and then there'll be 30 minutes for Q&A so if you have other case studies from your own practice you can share them then and get the input from Nicole and dr. Lachman about you know what some appropriate pathways may be for some of the cases that you're working with the purpose of this session is really to build knowledge of frontline workers and supervisors on this topic of capacity assessments what they are and how to access them we have thought to cover long-term care as well in this session but we realized as we were putting this together that there was enough to go over just with these two particular pieces of the capacity assessments question and so we're likely to be offering the long-term care assessment workshop later on this fall and we'll let you know about that it'll just focus on long-term care specifically okay so that's it over to Nicole sure thank you hi everyone I recognize quite a few of you so nice to see and thank you to everyone for coming today so I'll just do a little bit of an introduction about myself so I'm Karen transition facilitator on the inpatient mental health unit it's the artist formerly known as discharge planner and case manager and now our new title is Karen transition facilitator but I'm a social worker by background so that is my official job title so today we're as Laura said we're gonna talk about consent so in framed consent informed consent and legal framework for consent and I think what we had decided that it would probably be best if people could ask their questions towards the end just to kind of keep the flow going but please write down any questions if anything comes up that kind of speaks to you so we thought that this would be an important...
