today on ham radio QA I'm gonna take a look at the Sam comm FPC m30 a UHF handheld radio so please keep watching for more hi I'm Michael keep an eye on DVR your hosts for ham radio Q&A I'm on a mission to inspire and educate the amateur radio community so if this is your first time watching please consider hitting that subscribe button well on the market today there's no lack of relatively inexpensive good-quality handheld radios and with that in mind Sam calm reached out to me to have a look at their latest offering this is the FPC and 38 well thanks to Sam comm for providing me with a review unit of this radio the FPC and 30a is a 5 watt UHF handheld radio that is FCC part ninety type accepted so with along with being able to use it on the amateur radio bands it can also be used on the land mobile radio services with the appropriate license so let's run down the features of this radio you know the Sam comm FPC on 30 a has analog UHF operation 1,500 milliamp hour lithium-ion battery 5 watts of transmit power 20 memory channels CTC SS and digital tone coated squelch narrow and wideband settings and also Vox operation looking at the radio itself the size is decent it fits in the hand well and on the top there's two knobs a combination power and a volume control knob and a 360-degree rotary knob for a channel selection on the side is a large push-to-talk button into smaller buttons one for channel monitor and the other that starts and stops channel scanning on the site under the cover is a connection for speaker mic and programming cable the radio did not come with a programming cable but it does work with the standard to pin cables with the Kenwood style plugs in front of the radio is the most interesting as it doesn't have a keypad but instead buttons for the radios menu system and a center button marked as group and we're going to talk about that in a second what makes this radio different than other UHF radios is its group call feature if you have a collection of Sam comm hand you can program them all to have a common frequency on channel zero the radio is will monitor channels set channel zero in the background when you press the group button the radio will transmit on channel zero and all other radios will temporarily turn to that channel and receive your transmission this would be good you know if you're in a setting where you have a user spread out on multiple channels but want to page everyone at the same time of course you know the other radios can also call back on the group channel button feature also so out of the box the radio comes pre-programmed with a variety of gmrs channels you know take...
