um I am delighted to welcome all of you here we have such a distinguished speaker and such a distinguished audience as well thank you so much for joining us for this event this afternoon where we're going to be discussing and thinking about the possibility of North American integration and its implications so I am cinnamon dornsife I am the director of the size foreign policy Institute for those of you that are unfamiliar with the foreign policy Institute it's our longest standing Institute or research body here at seis and it implements the school's academic programs while while serving its mission of uniting scholarship and policy here at Zeiss there are several important research and programming initiatives that provide Innovative answers and practical answers and realistic answers to International challenges and problems going forward so the the talk which we are going to have with this conversation is a stellar example of what the foreign policy Institute was created so Ambassador Gomez Camacho very warm welcome um before I introduce the speaker properly let me just say that I'd like to thank those who've been involved in making this event possible including Johns Hopkins University itself the school of advanced international study the Dean's office with a special nod to Professor Kent Calder who was our acting Dean and began the negotiations for Ambassador Gomez Camacho joining us here with the full support of everyone involved I'd also like to thank other faculty members who've been very instrumental in making this possible notably those in Latin American studies and Canadian studies and American foreign policy but more broadly The Faculty I would like to thank them I'd like to thank our slice staff as well notably our size events team and I.T that were very instrumental in making this possible as well as our foreign policy Institute staff our program coordinator our research assistants our teaching assistants and this work research and scholarship enhances all that we do here at seis I turn now to introducing our distinguished speaker Ambassador Juan Jose Gomez Camacho most recently he served as the ambassador of Mexico to Canada and his prior assignments included Ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations in New York ambassador to the European Union as well as Belgium and Luxembourg Ambassador and permanent representative to the international organizations based in Geneva ambassador to Singapore Myanmar and Brunei he is regarded as one of the most influential experienced Mexican diplomats and is widely recognized for his strong leadership and his analytical and negotiation skills during his 30-year diplomatic career he has played a key role in addressing and providing Solutions to diverse and increasingly complex Global challenges both political and economic for which government focused alternatives are proving highly insufficient some of his major achievements include the conclusion of breakthrough International agreements on emerging Global health challenges the adoption of the first ever Global deal on international migration the successful negotiation of the framework of the new...
