hey hello hi thanks for having me here today yes thank you i just want to thank everyone for being here today taking the time to view this i also want to thank the city of cambridge for having me in this beautiful establishment uh so i'll just get right to the conversation uh the main focus that a topic of focus i want to talk about today is uh the idea of age integration theory however before i kind of start talking about that i kind of want to discuss the opposite end of that which is basically age segregation so basically this is just kind of like the separation by age you know that has left us pretty much ill-equipped you know in this today's world people tend to live longer and society is increasingly multi-generational with old middle-aged younger senior adults all that stuff so as this age segregation is combined with this multi-generational society we have developed it has contributed to a wide spread of social issues like ageism generational stigma mental health loneliness discrimination etc etc but perhaps more troubling than all that mentioned was that we're missing out on the main opportunities that individuals have to support one another and to mix the talents of the older population with the younger population and improving life for everyone you know if you think of how we operate retirement communities nowadays you really have the older population way over here kind of stuck by themselves and you have the rest of the world over here and similar to that we have the older population here the middle so the middle age population here working away making all the changes and then we have the younger generation pushed away to the to the side to do schooling and stuff like that um so this has really developed a huge purpose gap and really pushed the older generation and the younger generations to the margins of society so now what age integration theory basically talks about is it's basically defined um by not using chronological order um as the criteria for doing things to society or entering things such as like communities or schooling opportunities or retirement things like that so the two main components of age integration theory is one first breaking down the structural age barriers which allow people from all ages to have the same opportunity to work for work opportunities education opportunities leisure activities and whatnot and the second thing it also looks to do is bring people together who are different in age not just having one here one there one they're all divided it looks to mix everything together also actually most recently some university campuses in the america and in canada i've actually begun to try to minimize this gap in the segregation and to build universities and retirement centers near each other which i think is really cool so basically when these age barriers are developed it keeps older generation...
