yo what's up it's Patrick I'm kinda cute in this video what if I told you what if I told you you can do time-based analysis without building a data model in power bi would you believe me well if you don't stay tuned cuz I'm gonna show you if you find this for the very first time if this is your first time visiting the guy in a cube channel hit that subscribe button to stay up to date on all the videos and content from Adam and myself ok time intelligence a lot of times people think you got to build out these big robust data models before you can do any type of time intelligence or time base analysis and Harvey I and I have to confess right Adam and I we talked about this a lot create a cow on the table make sure you have a star schema but to be honest in power bi you can do this analysis this time based analysis without building this data model in this video I'm gonna show you so instead of always talking you guys know I like to do let's head over to my laptop so let's say you've imported a single flat table red you have some columns you have one column that is a date your order date and then you have a measure that you've created and you want to look at sales growth by year and then you want to look at sales growth month over month how would you do that without your cow on the table well you may notice this little calendar icon next to my date my date column so you need to make sure that you have a date column in your table and then you need to also make sure that auto in time Auto time intelligence is on to check it go to go to file click options and settings and choose options and there's two places that it can be set it can be set globally right for all your new files and then it could be set locally for any file so make sure it's check somewhere when it's on you'll notice this little calendar icon next to this column ok next to your order date or whatever date it is right make sure it's there and then you'll get a hierarchy for year quarter month and day and you can use that in your reports and you can use that for time-based analysis let me show you so let's say you click the whole thing right if I click the whole thing and let's look at it from a table perspective you look at this from a table perspective you'll see it's here quarter month date which is great but I want to use it in a slicer so click your slicer and because this like sir has that built-in hierarchy capability now I can you know go down from a year...
