hi I'm Aimee from Razor Accounting the sharp solution for your finances in this QuickBooks desktop tutorial I'm going to show you how to give your customers a discount on their invoice now there's all sorts of reasons that you may wish to view this but one common reason would be for a referral maybe your customer has given you a referral of another customer and you want to thank them by giving them a discount on their invoice so I'm going to show you how to do that now the first thing that we need to do is create the actual discount line items so it's available when you're creating your invoices in accounts receivable so to do that we need to go up to the top menu go over to where it says list and go down to where it says item list open that up now you're going to go down to the very bottom left side of your screen where it says item and click the drop down and go up to the top and select new the next thing to do would be to select the type of item we are creating here so again it would be a discount and in the item name I am going to put discount I'm not going to make this a sub item of a different account so I'm going to leave that as is and in the description I'm going to put discount on invoice now you can select a percentage or an amount that you want to be applied every time you use this discount line item I usually leave this blank because I like to be able to just change it to whatever I want it to be depending on the circumstance so I'm going to leave that as is but if you'd like to you can put something in the amount and the next thing to do would be to select the sales tax code that would be appropriate for your business I'm going to select GST and then finally the account would be which account in your general ledger the discount is going to be applied to so if you want to apply it directly to sales you can do that and it would reduce your sales or if you have another account setup this cold sales discounts which I do you can select that so I'm going to select sales discounts once you're done filling in all the information here just go ahead and select okay I'm going to exit out of here and get back to the home screen so here we are at the home screen and just to confirm that everything was set up properly let's go through creating a discount on an invoice so I'm just going to go into the accounts receivable module by selecting create invoices now I'm going to create an invoice for our brother the item is going to be dog grooming I'm going to say that she is getting one dog and the rate is $75 I'm just going to select my tax here and then next I'm going to apply the discount so I'm going to use the drop down and I'm going to select discount and as you can see it automatically populated discount on invoice in the description because I filled it in and now in the rate I'm going to put in the amount of discount so I'm going to put in ten dollars and as you can see it has been subtracted off of her invoice because it's showing up as a minus and again I'm going to select the proper tax code here and as you can see the discount has been taken off the invoice and this total is at the bottom so once you're finished with your discount and you're invoiced you can go ahead and select save and close or save a new to create an invoice and of course if you want to print this invoice to provide to your customer you can go up to the top here where it says print and select invoice so that's it for this QuickBooks tutorial on how to provide your customers with a discount on their invoice if you do have any questions about this please leave a comment on this video and I will be happy to answer your question as quickly as I can and if you did like this video if you found it helpful please leave it a like and don't forget to subscribe to the channel thank you for watching you
