hi I'm sandy McBain welcome to Microsoft Word 2010 mail merge people have asked me how to creatively use the mail merge process to make sequentially numbered admission or raffle tickets and so that's what this video will show you just how to do so first of all I'm going to open word and here's a sample of the tickets that we'll be making these are for a charity raffle fifty fifty and you can see that they're numbered in two places on the ticket so that's no problem to do with mail merge pinning so let's get started you can make these tickets first of all I'm going to open Microsoft Excel and the reason I'm going to do that is I'm going to use Excel to do my numbering for me if you only need nine hundred tickets or less you can just start at number 100 if you need more than that you could start at one thousand for those of you who aren't familiar with autofill come to the lower square of the cell okay in the lower right hand corner this the square your cursor will change to a solid black T or plus sign and then just drag that down because we started at 100 we will go to 901 so you can see I'm just dragging down making a note of what line I am on from the left-hand sides if I come down to 901 let go you see that they're all 100 so here's the little wizard here for the autofill options click on that and choose fill series and now you'll see that they're sequentially numbered and they start at 100 and go all the way down to 999 so we're going to save this file file save as I'll put it on my desktop and I'll put it in my tickets folder and I'll just call it tickets and I will close this file so now we'll open Microsoft Word so here's our sample we'll start from scratch so I'll go to file and then the first thing I want to do is change my margins so that I have a smaller margin all the way around the page for that I'll go to page layout margins and just choose a half an inch all the way around the page now I'm going to insert a table if you remember labels are tables so tables can be labels although we're not going to put it on something sticky we're just going to print it on paper so I'm going to go to the insert ribbon choose table and I'm going to make it four by four so here's our little table so now whatever I put in this first cell I will eventually roll out to all of the other cells to be our ticket so first of all I'm going to type charity raffle fifty-fifty and then worry for very good cause this is where you could put...
