hey i'm working on a mail merge right now and i know sometimes you run into a little issue that i've just run into where i need to um add what's called a switch at the end of my merge field code so that my currency is converted the way i want it so what's happening is in the spreadsheet i've got an amount 2000 and when i get it in here and mail merge it it's just plain 2 000 but i want a dollar sign i want the comma i may want the decimal places in my case i don't need decimals so what i wanted to show you was the one with the amount in it is called the award and so what i'm doing here is going to do alt f9 i want to get under the hood and get into this merge field and add the switch now i've already looked it up it's one of those i don't do very often so i had to look it up but i've got it and i'm going to go ahead and paste it for you now so let's see control paste it and let us scooch back over okay there it is so you know maybe maybe you don't know with the merge field codes it could show up longer when i'm in this view but when it gets the real data it will shorten back up so i'm not worried that it's spilling over uh the switch has it's after the actual field is the award so in this case i went here i inserted the merge field of award exactly where i want it and i made sure the formatting is how i wanted and then it's got the slash hashtag dollar sign and then it's got the decimal places um or the it's the code for the currency so if you need help just look it up because you'll you never remember these when you need them at least i don't so i've got it in there now i'm going to go ahead and preview my letter i actually have to go ahead and there we go oops i have to turn my i have to toggle my field codes back so that's exactly how i wanted it i wanted the dollar sign in there i wanted the comma and i did not want any decimal places so just look that up alt f9 get behind the scenes add the slash and whatever the formatting code is that you need for your custom number in your mail merge and then go back and finish it up that's it hope it helps
