[Music] at harvest time no two fields are the same crop types moisture content field conditions and weather all are important factors to consider when it comes time to get your crop out of the field jim minihan has been following the harvest for over 15 years he's a harvesting specialist with the customer service group at case ih jim was there when the axial flow combine concept was developed and has been with it ever since it is our intention in this vista program to have jim share his expertise to help you learn more about setting and adjusting your axial flow to meet your ever-changing crop conditions good morning we're going to take a few moments and talk about corn harvesting in the development of corn the kernels can be hard or soft big round flat wet dry the cob can be dry or wet easily split when the corn gets to about 22-23 moisture begins to be easily thrashed if it's higher moisture may mean a little more aggressive in our threshing at the same time we need to be careful about the cob as well as development of the ear corn stalks can be small can be wet dry it can be large all these have an effect on how we're going to thrash our grain if it's dry some of our earlier varieties shatter a little bit so we want to talk about taking care of that problem as well as as we get into our adjustments we're going to talk about the divider points other adjustments in the corn head the separator cleaning system now to get started with our adjustments let's go into the divider points since we're going to be making several adjustments to our corn head and the header is going to be raised we want to put our safety stand down as it shows by this decal one of the first adjustments that we will make to our corn head is our divider points we want to make sure that the center divider points all are on the same plane or same line or contact the ground simultaneously the outer divider points most generally we'll have those one to two inches higher than our center of divider points why because the outer divider points will run closer to the adjoining rows to make those adjustments go underneath the divider we have a chain that we can move by the link and just retained with a rubber strap then to fine tune the individual points we have an adjusting bolt now that we have raised up our center divider points we're going to talk about gatherer chain tension the gather chain tension is maintained by a spring inside the spacer linkage and idler if the gap between the washer and the spacer exceeds 1 8 of an inch to a quarter of an inch we need to adjust this nut down until we have freedom of the spacer or the washer...
