happy Friday everybody today we are going to talk about the confusing concept of resolution let's go [Music] so a lot of people seem to be confused by the concept of resolution for a digital image whether it be video or still photography it's just gonna be the pixel dimension honey pixels across by how many pixels high that's all more pixels equals higher resolution let's just look at the definition of resolution first basically how much clarity or detail is in an image now if we're talking about specific image that is going to be destined for print people will sometimes talk about resolution in dots per inch or pixels per inch this is where the confusion sets in because all of a sudden we're using a rate ie pixels per inch to define resolution and the overall concept of dimension or how many pixels are in the image itself gets lost as soon as you take images from the digital realm and print it into the physical world now all of a sudden you have to have a resolution so 300 dpi refers to 300 dots per inch or pixels per inch so for every 300 pixels you have in your image it'll be one inch on the paper that's just a general high resolution that a lot of print media uses and somebody tells you Oh make sure this image is in 300 dpi that makes no sense but I could send you a one inch by one inch file that's technically 300 dpi but it's only gonna print one inch I try to scale it up well though I'm not gonna have the pixels to do that it's or all it is it's a rate it's how to transfer from pixels in the digital side to a physical size when it's printed so it's still even in the print world more pixels equals higher resolution if you're only uploading your images to the web then the resolution tag of pixels per inch doesn't really matter it's all about the raw number of pixels that you have in your image don't worry about how many pixels per inch because it's not being translated into the real world and therefore pixels per inch isn't even relevant your resolution for video is determined exclusively by the number of pixels in your image so for HD video it's gonna be 1920 by 1080 pixels 1920 pixels across by 1080 pixels high 4k is 3840 pixels or more or less 4,000 pixels across instead of saying 3840 by 2160 we're just going to say 4k because it's you year if you have roughly 2,000 pixels across its 2k if you have roughly 8,000 pixels across its 8k that's where the K nomenclature came from so those are the different names we give standard resolutions it's a little bit confusing but just no resolution for the digital world just means the number of pixels that's it's as simple as that so thanks...
