okay so welcome everyone uh today we have uh David Clark uh who is a principal member of technical staff uh for computer architecture at AMD where he works on defining the AI engine um he uh received a bachelor's degree in computational physics from Trinity College Dublin and a PhD in high performance heterogeneous Computing from I believe University College Dublin um he joined xilinx research labs in 2004 and then moved to AMD when xilinx was acquired he's done a lot of work on defining the AI engine architecture and it's great to have him here talking about it and with that David please go ahead thanks very much um and good to be talking to everyone today um there we go um I think I can skip the introduction of myself but maybe uh what I'm going to talk to about today is the AI engine architecture so I'm on the architecture team so I'll mostly focus on architectural features um as opposed to say the program model and so forth and especially at the array level uh how say data movement and synchronization takes place uh and I'm going to focus on the second generation which is uh known as aie ml uh and then I'm going to look at more specifically say a use case mapping of a machine learning say a CNN or a machine learning application similar to that how that would map to the array architecture and then just finish with with a bit of insight in in to the architecture team who we are and what we're doing and then have time for questions at the end so um just to kind of place uh AI engine and and the various Generations that we're working on I know Steve nurendorf gave a talk in this form about a year ago and that was focused mainly on the first generation which was in the public domain at that stage now we've released uh and we've uh engineering samples for the second generation and the um architectures specification has been published publicly for that second generation so I can go into much more detail on on that architecture um so first generation was designed boat for uh Wireless uh 5G deployment and also machine learning and then Second Generation Um is uh more finely optimized for machine learning with some additional features um and then we do have a an upcoming announcement next quarter uh with in Partnership you know aie as part of an AMD classic uh device that in a um embedded client which will be the classic Apu which would have the CPU and the GPU in a laptop and a future device will have aie um that's so that's been launched next quarter and uh maybe that's about the extent that I can say at this point in time but it's a really exciting development for the architecture and then we we have a long roadmap of of future...
