hey there smarty with digital design tips and I'm gonna show you today how to combine letters and move them closer together and basically just do a bunch of different things with them I'm gonna start off we're gonna go to our type tool I'm going to type out say digital and there's a few ways you could do this I mean one of them a common way is a pull up your type and character and you can mess with the tracking so you can I'm going to hold shift it'll jump it down by increments of 10 see that and you can do that and that's one way to do it I mean it's still a font and you can retype you know things out if you wanted to but the other way to do it and this is actually gonna give you a lot more freedom I'm gonna put that back to where it was is you create outlines on it that's gonna make each letter its own object it's not gonna be a font anymore you want to go to type create outlines now it's gonna be grouped by default so when I go up to object and ungroup them like that now we've got each letter now you can really customize and I'm holding shift by the way that keeps it in a straight line otherwise you know kind of moving around so I now you can really get in there and and make each one exactly how you want it spaced out and it's arrow and I don't know I mean maybe you're you're looking just to fully customize something so you can you just pretty much do whatever you want with each letter because now they're objects so after I'm just gonna mess with these a little bit [Music] Digital now I'm gonna hit my zoom tool here move it up for you you can see that all these blue lines they're intersecting each other so let's say I wanted to make this guy red and then I wanted to add a stroke or an outline and I don't know black so we can see it now they're all overlapping might not want that because depending on what you're gonna do with this but let's just select all of these I'm going to go up here and pull up something called a pathfinder this is a really useful tool and so with my pathfinder we have different options here unite is what we're going to use watch this boom and you know I'm gonna undo that move this move these guys over a little bit mm-hmm let's do it again unite well yeah now everything is all combined you can't once it's combined like that that it's gonna be like that forever so you might want to you know save a copy of it like I'm just gonna press option and then drag this down here and then you know keep that off...
