to get into our next presentation here uh as you saw with our first presentation already a bunch of awesome stuff that's very forward-looking and direction setting and that's one of the things we wanted to highlight throughout the summit in a bunch of different talks and this next talk is no exception to that a bunch of incredible stuff going on here zero trust is largely built in a lot of ways around being able to verify whether a device is actually owned by a given person or one of the assets the company owns and is the user sitting at that device really that person right so authentication is going to be the bedrock of success in a next generation zero trust kind of environment and with that being said this next presentation is going to go into modern authentications for getting that sort of stuff done there's a bunch of really really important stuff in here if you're not familiar with the acronyms and what they're going to talk about here this is something i think every blue teamer needs to understand when we're moving to a perimeter-less cloud-centric rural world this is going to be what determines how people are logging in and how we can verify who they are so really really important stuff here really excited to see this presentation with that i will hand it over to grace and mark program managers at microsoft over to you thank you very much john and thank you to justin and ishmael who have lined us up perfectly discussing xero trust so of course from a zero trust perspective um you know things that were said there was identity is the new perimeter so what does that really mean for you as security administrators so today myself and mark who are program managers within the azure active directory product group here at microsoft we're here to talk to you about modern auth for security admins so we predominantly work with large enterprise customers to help them deploy and use azure ad and hopefully you guys will be able to take away what you can do as security admins from a modern author perspective so first of all why modern authentication so previously you may have come across the term basic or legacy authentication so that is a form of authentication where you can't do things like mfa and with modern authentication you have much more ability as blue teamers to look into that actual authentication request and provide information to be able to authorize that successfully bearing in mind from a zero trust perspective you should be verifying explicitly so with modern authentication you can it has the ability to handle an mfa challenge and response also we get to see more information about the device for example if it's a hybrid domain join device if it's being managed and things like the ip address of where the user is coming from and potentially if you're...
