now i don't say this very often but there was a terrific story on the front page of the sydney morning herald on the weekend on saturday it was research from top researchers around the world who claim that gender-neutral terms in medical literature is dehumanizing women so they're speaking about this trend including by the way in australia in government departments to replace words like women and mothers with terms like birth givers and pregnant people i'm sorry they're not pregnant people we're mothers and and pregnant women gemma this is the conclusion of 10 prominent women's health researchers around the world why is why are governments the world over including in australia insisting on this absurd language like lactating parents no breastfeeding women breastfeeding moms do you know i i actually don't have a i don't have an answer to that question it's a really really good one i think it's complicated but i think inherently there's a gutlessness there's a gutlessness to governments who say oh we have to make every everybody feel okay i never got to be a mum shari i really wanted to be but i didn't get to be one that's just the way life turned out to be so how about we tip to around me for example and change our language so that i feel included so that on mother's day i don't get upset and be reminded of the fact that i never got to hold my own child in my arms i mean come on you are a mother my mum is a mother it is a gift motherhood parenthood fatherhood and if you are a person who gives birth to a child who does not identify as a woman you refer to yourself any which way you want to live your life in peace but do not expect the rest of society to turn around and be robbed of something so primal so precious and so natural to accommodate the the the life that you are living by choice or by design it is a nonsense proposition i saw this story like you sharing and and it's not just motherhood it's womanhood i mean the whole athletic you know um issue which is another one altogether but this this is an important story good on the sydney morning herald for running it um as a as a as a woman who didn't get to be a mother i applaud them i'm sorry to hear that gemma um erin you know this has been a long campaign to actually recognize women and mothers in medical literature and other literature so i i think this is actually offensive to the feminist movement that this global trend well the feminist movement is split over this and there are plenty of feminists out there who push back on changes in language like this changing language is how you change society and so i think the people pushing this um tactically this is...
