hey guys this is bill with notary coach.com today I'm talking about notarizing personal letters or handwritten letters or typed up letters I actually get a lot of requests to notarize documents like that I think there's there's a number of different reasons sometimes whoever is going to be receiving those letters from people actually ask them to be notarized and then I think some people have a misinterpretation of what a notarization actually does so when you notarize a document like that you're not validating the content of that letter there's no way that you would know if that was true or real information or not you were truly just notarizing you're acknowledging that the person who signed that document in front of you is actually the person they said they were so that's why you verify their ID and you do that now I'll have a lot of people actually who I'll show up or they'll come to me and they literally just have a letter that they just hand wrote and they just say hey we'll use notarized this so there are a few notaries and are a little confused on what you would do in that particular situation so I've seen some that just stamp it and sign it and say there you go and have a good day that's typically not the correct way to do that however every state is different so you want to check in with your Secretary of State and just make sure on that one in most cases though they're going to require that you attach a separate acknowledgement an actual notary acknowledgement or duress depending on whatever the situation is and actually fill that document out and attach it usually with a staple so it just adds credence to that leather and it just says you know the undersigned appeared before me a notary public and identify the document sign it data and notarize that document that was typically how you would notarize a handwritten or a self typed letter or document that I hope you got trying that helpful every now and then as a signing agent you might run into that with special documentation but not usually with these extra documents are usually from the general public and just kind of a one-off situation alright guys this is bill with notary coach comm happy Friday
