hey everybody welcome back to Center City notary I'm Judith Lawrence today I wanted to talk to you about notarizing an i-9 verification form so the first and most important thing as notaries can not put a stamp and seal on an i-9 verification form because an i-9 verification form is a federal Homeland Security document and why do I make this most important and the first thing I'm talking about is because if you get 100 requests 98 of them are going to say why aren't you putting your stamp and seal on the document and you will have to tell them because you can't and often what I do is I carry around the piece of paper from the internet that says that no notary can put a stamp or seal on an i-9 verification and even sometimes then they just don't believe you but you can't and you shouldn't and if you do you could lose your commission filling out the form is nothing you're only responsible for section two and you're only responsible for looking at the identification take you less than five minutes but knowing what you're doing is going to be imperative to you doing it right and if you follow my courses you will find out I always exist you got to do it right so there's two little tips I'm gonna give you um if you have an office and you do I nine verifications Homeland Security says either save them all or save none so if you ever get a visit from Homeland Security and you say oh there's a file cabinet over there and there's about 20 of them but I've done about a thousand of them that's not good you either save them all or save none second tip there is a 15 page document and you can call me and I'll be happy to email you the link you can text me two one five eight seven zero three one zero three I'll be happy to suggest you back with the link it's 15 pages of instructions of how to do I nine verifications I have not read that 15 pages and you probably won't either but few people know that if someone comes in to do an i-9 they can ask to see it and if you don't have it they can report you as not having complied so what I did was I printed it out I put it in a folder no one in the last seven years has asked me to see it but I have it in case I ever get my visit from Homeland Security it's right there where they can see that I have it available to my clients so as far as charging many notaries charge a flat fee some charge a flat fee and then mileage if they're going out to do it my suggestion if you're gonna do online verifications is read up on them a little bit there's there are some very interesting articles and and become the expert and know what you're going to do know what you're telling them to do so that they're done correctly so that's it for online verifications thanks for listening if you wanna text us it's two one five eight seven zero three one zero three and if you'd like to email us it's Center City notary one zero zero at gmail.com thanks for listening
