in today's show we want to talk about populating your fields and power apps based on a drop down so we're going to select something from a drop down and then use it to set a bunch of default fields we'll talk how to do that inside of a form how to use that with patch we'll talk about how to use that to populate a collection and even maybe a little bit about how the people pick her works there so just trying to understand some behavioral things you have happen when a user selects something from a drop down should be fun but first here's our intro hi my name is shane young with powerapps911 those guys and today we're going to dive into setting our fields and powerapps so what happens here i get this question a lot like i never could really make heads or tails out i finally did so i thought we'd dive into it but basically people want to be able to choose from a drop down and when they choose that they're choosing a record from their data source so sharepoint data source data source dataverse sql or any of those type of things they're choosing a whole record by just choosing a field from a drop down and they want to then take the values from that field and write it into you know input whether that be a form or some fields for patching so you have some default values set there so you can kind of go forward so that's what we're going to explore in this video today not terribly complicated but just kind of connecting some dots for us hopefully but then we're also we took a couple questions off twitter and so i think bert asked about doing that but kind of pushing it into a collection so we'll talk about that and then marie asked about how to kind of do that with a people picker inside of sharepoint so i don't know if i exactly answer her question but at least give her some food for thought there as well so anyway let's switch her to my desktop and take a look okay so over here on the desktop i kind of got a couple examples what we're going to go through if this isn't making sense we're talking about yet but the idea here is that this drop down is connected to a department's list and so in the department's list i have a bunch of default values so you know who is the department manager their phone number when their bonus structure is just a bunch of different values coming from over there and so what we're going to do is we're going to talk about like if i choose i t here you can see that these fields all got populated by pulling that data from the data source so those all got populated if i change it over here to...
