hi everyone in this video we'll see how to create a trusted self-hosted https certificate this sounds a little bit complicated but it's very important for our self-hosted web applications because some web applications like home assistant needs a valid https certificate to work properly and we have at least two techniques to do this uh we can use let's encrypt which is a public certification authority but you need an a website on internet to use it while if you use a certificate in alan in a local area network you can also use a local authority so you don't depend on internet for your internal web services okay so we will use mk cert which is a utility which makes more convenient to create this certificate and the use case for this tool is to generate an https certificate for development or for websites which lives in your internal network i won't install this because i already have this tool but if you go to releases you can download the latest binary from here from for your application okay so step number one is to download this utility i already have this utility here uh so i create a new folder i call it the search and i go inside the search and i copy the tool that i mentioned before which i already downloaded it and it's this one mk search here okay so copy here so with this i control the version and i'm using the version 1.4.3 okay so uh the first command to is to generate the certificates there are many ways to use this tool but i will use the most simple one so with the mk cert i give the key file key file name and usually there are several standards to call these files but i will call it a key key dot pam and the other one is cert file dot pam so search dot pam then you can specify the name of the website which is valid this certificate so i will use test dot lan which is the website that i want a certain certificate for and i also make it valid for asterisk test dot lan so i can also use the sub domains and yeah you can also specify um and ep address if you want but it isn't my situation okay so i press enter and now as you can see we have the certificate which is valid for test.lana which dot lan it's just my convention for internal domains and also asterisk test.lan and if we do ls we see we have the two certificates and the other command that i need to run is this mk search install and this will install the certificate uh certification authority for this computer so i need to specify dot slash and here we we don't have sudo so we need to run it again with the super user to install it okay let's try again okay...
