hi guys welcome back to my channel i'm doing something a little bit different today so it's not a studio vlog and it's not really a tips video i'm doing an experiment now bear with me so i get asked a lot who do i use for my printing needs so i have prints bookmarks all sorts of things that i get printed and obviously people want to know where i get my things printed and it's so hard to give recommendations because i will recommend somewhere and then i'll order again and i'm not happy and i feel really bad for recommending that company so i feel like instead of recommending places i need to just do an experiment and there needs to be results at the end of it you can watch this video and make a decision for yourself who would work for you i have ordered the same product from five leading uk printing companies in the hopes that i can judge them on the ordering process the price the delivery times the packaging it comes in and the overall quality and we can put it all together and see who is doing well so i think we just get into it let's make a start [Music] so the five companies i have gone with are printed.com instant print vista print banana print and moo they're the five that i've gone with so i know that these are from the uk and some of you may be in the us and canada don't have access to these companies but hopefully it just gives you an idea of the different price points and things like that so the first thing i am going to judge these companies on is the ordering process so i ordered all of these products on the fifth of august which was a wednesday i did it in the evening and i had five tabs open and i hit order within five minutes of each other just to make sure that this was really really fair so the product i went with was a postcard i used postcards quite a lot and i thought i've got a nice design let's see how that would look across five different companies in terms of the type of postcard and what i wanted to order um i was thinking like a nice thick postcard i didn't need it to be like the best quality and like super deluxe lovely paper but just a nice thick paper 300 350 gsm i really wanted like recycled card if possible and maybe like a matte laminated finish and i needed to be able to write on the other side they were kind of like what i wanted going into this so first up was printed.com now printed.com i really liked this website i felt like there was lots of choices and i could really tailor my product to what i wanted i liked that i could choose the paper i could make it recycled card which was really important to me and it was 350 gsm another thing i liked was that i could laminate it on one side like i said before and i chose the matte lamination another great thing with printed.com was that i could preview my artwork before submitting so i could check that it was okay and that my bleed lines were okay and everything was fine so yeah overall using printed.com i really liked that website i liked that i could tailor the product to exactly what i wanted i could try different card and different thickness i feel like any budget could use printed.com you could make it with the fanciest paper and the biggest budget or you could use the thinner cheaper paper and yeah i really enjoyed it so next up is instant print now instant print surprised me and i wasn't a massive fan of the lack of choice with instant print so when choosing a postcard you don't get many options you can choose how many sides you want printing so front or front and back so the standard is a6 in size and it's silk paper there's no choice of like a recycled card or anything like that you have silk and in terms of lamination it's a gloss again i couldn't choose that i wanted matte i got gloss the one thing i did like about instant print was when i submit and i wanted to check it gave me a proof option so i could see the proof like printed.com i could see the bleed lines and check that everything was okay it also gave me a tick box to confirm that proof um so yeah there was no kind of going back after that if you take that box you are happy with what you're gonna get next up is moo or is it moo.com moo i'm gonna call it moo again i felt quite limited with moo in terms of how you picked your paper it was more based on weight and i was kind of in between the the middle option and the fancy like i just didn't know which one to go with i then tried to upload my artwork which is a pdf document with two pages and it didn't like that it sent me somewhere else and told me to upload it somewhere else so that was a bit confusing i think it wanted two separate pdfs for the front and back which wasn't a problem on any other website next up is banana print i had quite a few options with banana print i liked that i could choose a recycled car that was really really good but there was no lamination settings i could not choose how i wanted the postcard to be laminated so that'll be really interesting to see how that comes again i had to confirm the proof once that was uploaded just like i did for instant print and finally it was a vistaprint vista print had some great choices i was really impressed with this the paper thickness though wasn't very obvious i had to go looking for that to figure it out i went for the premium matte paper um and unfortunately it wasn't recycled card to print double-sided is fine but to add color on the reverse side was an extra cost and an add-on rather than just the standard i really liked the visual mock-up they gave it was so cool to see it on the product i really liked that again vistaprint asked me to confirm my proof and one thing i noticed with vistaprint was they try to sell you a lot of different products um if you are wanting to just buy a postcard and go to the checkout you will be asked multiple times if you want to use other items and have your things printed on other items i just press skip on all of these but yeah it can be quite uh annoying so of all five websites i feel like the one i enjoyed the most using was printed.com i felt like i had the most options on there i could really tailor my postcard with the different types of paper and yeah i thought that was most enjoyable to use my least favorite is going to be instant print unfortunately because i couldn't choose my options i didn't really like that i really wanted to tailor it a little bit more so next up i am going to judge them on price so i ordered 50 postcards from each website now i know if i'd have ordered a thousand they would have been a lot cheaper per unit but i went with 50 because i didn't want to end up with too many postcards so 50 postcards with kind of very similar specs um there's nothing too different going on there well the pricing is very different and i'm very excited to see when i unwrap them how different they are in quality based on this price so to start off the cheapest website was vistaprint so with delivery it came to 19 pounds and 91 pence next up was printed.com which came to 21 pounds and 68 pence then we had banana print that came in at 26 pounds and 90 pence then going up even more it was instant print at 28 pounds 99 and finally moo.com with 31 pounds and 20 pence 31 pounds for 50 postcards i don't mind paying for quality products so vistaprint is obviously the cheapest option but if the quality isn't great i'm not gonna promote those so you know what i mean we will have to see at the end how they fare but right now vistaprint and printed.com are the cheaper options and they're the ones that i'm saying ding to so we've gone through the ordering process and we've looked at the prices so next up is delivery times now i didn't pay extra for any delivery everything was just standard so bear in mind i ordered on a wednesday evening i was really surprised that on a friday two days after i had ordered i had two parcels one from banana print and the other one from instant print so those two came in two working days next up on the monday three working days or five days in total was printed.com then after five working days or seven full days was moo and then the last one has just arrived six working days after i ordered it or eight full days was vistaprint so like i said before vistaprint was the cheapest option but it took almost a week to arrive so yeah i will put a tick next to banana print and instant print for coming in two days which i think is awesome i really like that so the final two things i am going to judge these parcels on is packaging and the quality of the product so i think what i'm going to do is move this camera so you can see the packages better and we can look at them so all five parcels are here and they are packaged very differently because they have ordered the same thing so i have one in just like a plastic bag i can feel like there's some cardboard in there though i have one in like a bubble wrap bag which again i can feel some uh cardboard in there two that are in cardboard and one big box which surprises me so let's see so what we're gonna do is we'll start with this one i don't even know who this is from i'm hoping it's clear when we get inside nope so there's no branding on there whatsoever i have no clue who this has come from let me just double check my emails so i've had a look and these are from banana print no branding on there at all which is quite surprising really um but looking at it it looks quite nice the quality looks nice the package in this um plastic which isn't ideal really don't really want any plastic but let's see can we get them out so from what i can see it's just paper really um it doesn't feel really special there's actually some indentation marks on that one so i've just double checked my notes and yes so these are recyclable so that was good but like i said before i had no option for lamination so that's obviously why um the front and the back are the same because that's what they are so yeah i would say they're okay i wouldn't put these in my shop to sell i don't think they don't feel special so that's banana print next up is this one so yeah i like this peel and reseal packed by hand i really like this little touch and then we open them up so next up is moo so these cards look a bit more accurate in terms of color there's definitely some lamination on there so the back feels uh like normal paper wood and the front is a really nice matte lamination don't if you can see in the light there these feel nice these feel luxury i would put these in my shop for sure they're really accurate i like them really impressed these are the most expensive ones they came to 30 plus pounds so if you compare the 30 pounds and the 19 pounds um these ones are yeah i i really like these the quality is so much nicer these just look like something i've printed out i could print out myself these feel a little bit more luxurious next up is this one i really like these types of boxes again no branding like i don't know who that is i mean i think i know who this is because i've used their packaging before and i think this is printed.com um but let me double check so yeah this is printed.com it's packaged very similar to banana print in this sort of plastic wrapping so let's have a look so yeah these feel really nice so these also have the matte lamination but what i will say is the back's also laminated it feels super soft and whether that's a mistake i made maybe i should have just done the front and not the back um but yeah these feel nice the color looks nice these feel thinner um compared to the moo cards yeah moo is a lot thicker um and more uh sturdy these are quite uh flimsy can you see like i don't know if that's a good test but um overall the quality is really nice a bit thicker would have been good i don't know i can't remember if i had the option to go a bit thicker but i would have done um now that i felt the moo ones but yeah they're really nice really um lovely lovely quality next up is this one i know this one is from vistaprint so let's get this one open okay so in here again we have oh inside there is another box covered in plastic which i don't think is ideal um maybe did they need this bit of plastic box okay so that's where i'm confused so they just have a cover on it oh and another protective thing there we go there's there so with vistaprint i really liked the choices on here i have to say um that there doesn't seem to be a lamination on this it is a very nice texture and it's um a really nice card but yeah it's kind of missing that luxurious feeling that you get on some of the others and also i think the color um is a lot lighter paper thickness is yeah it's quite nice i'm gonna compare this one the closest to banana print which was the first one we opened um and i feel like they're very similar to touch they're very similar the difference being that this one from banana print is recyclable which is what i wanted for the price i think this is a nice option i just feel like it's missing the wow um and it doesn't feel really like i wouldn't put this and sell this in my shop as a postcard i don't think um yeah but overall really really nice it's not quite the colors it's slightly lighter than i planned um but i do think that's very pretty and then finally we have this box so yeah this has come from instant print and i'm quite surprised how big the packaging is for this um so yeah let's see [Applause] yeah i feel like it really doesn't need to be that many now what i will say is there is a lot of postcards in there i feel like they've given me more than i needed because that's 50 postcards that's a hell of a lot more than 50 postcards in there i wonder how many postcards are here there's hell of a lot more than 50. instant print this was the company where i had the least amount of choice so you can see there's a gloss lamination on there which is not really what i wanted but i have to say the colours on this are probably the most accurate the thickness of the card is lovely i like that the back is different to the front yeah i i actually really like this i would never have chosen a gloss but what it does to the color is wonderful so to compare it to moo can you see how the difference in purple this is a lot more accurate i think i need to double check but i feel like this is nicer than this and they've had the same file from me so yeah i am really impressed with this i really like it but because it doesn't really hit the brief that i went in with um yeah i'm gonna down point it a little bit but i do really like it um it's worth checking how many postcards are here because there's a hell of a lot more than 50. let me check so i've done a quick count and i've just picked up less than half of the pile and there's 50 here in my hand so they have given me more than 100 postcards which i haven't paid for which is insane really i mean that's amazing i'm really impressed with that so here we have all five postcards it's so funny to think that they're the same file and they came out so differently so this is the cheapest ranging down to the most expensive we have we have vistaprint first as the cheapest option then we have printed.com followed by banana print then instant print and then moo with the most expensive option hi guys so it's been a few days since i unboxed all of the postcards um and i've left it a couple of days so that i can have them here and i can look at them and keep touching them um just so i can be really sure with what i'm about to tell you in terms of like my verdict so what i've done is put together a table of all of my results this table is going to be available for you to download if you want to have a nausea of like my scores for things but basically i've made some decisions in terms of what i would like to recommend you do if you were going to buy postcards um so this might not be the same for every product that these companies do but in terms of postcards i've come to the decision the company that i would go to out of all of these would be printed.com now when i unbox them i said that they were laminated on both sides and i think that's because i chose the silk paper if i had chosen the uncoated paper and laminated it i think the postcard would have come out perfect so that was my slight error but i couldn't fault printed.com the ordering process was brilliant i'd give it a 9 out of 10 because of all of the different choices that i had the price came in as the second cheapest which i think is really good and the order came quite fast in three days although the packaging was essentially just a plastic wrapping i thought the quality was amazing i give it an 8 out of 10 really nice and like i said if i hadn't have chosen silk which is really nice if i had chosen the uncoated and added a matte lamination i think it would have come out perfect so yeah printed.com is going to get my seal of approval i absolutely love that one in terms of who i wouldn't recommend i'm going to say banana print and vistaprint vistaprint came out the cheapest option at just over 19 pounds but it took a long time to come and the quality wasn't amazing so i feel like although it was the cheapest option i would rather pay that two pounds more to get printed.com also with banana print banana print and vistaprint were very similar in terms of quality for me the pricing was very different and yeah i'm just not a massive fan so if you're wanting to make postcards that you maybe want to sell or give to people yeah i would maybe avoid those companies sorry the company that surprised me the most was instant print now i gave instant print a 3 out of 10 for ordering process and that's just because the choice was very limited but if you're not bothered about choosing all of the things you want a postcard that's got a glossy texture to it um and you're not that fussed i'd say go with instant print i was really impressed with the quality of them they came super fast in two days and although the pricing was on the pricier side of the scale the quality is really really nice so although it looks like i've marked them down it's just because it didn't fit the brief that i went in with but if you're not bothered about matte lamination and recycled paper instant print's a very good choice and then the final thing is moo i love to move and it is pricier it's the top end of the scale the packaging for me was on point no plastic whatsoever it was all cardboard which i really really loved i'd be really interested to see how it comes if you order more than 50 postcards because they seem to fit that cardboard box perfectly so anyway that's interesting um the packaging yep so i'll give it 10 out of 10. the quality i give it 10 out of 10. they are the most gorgeous postcards delivery was five days seven full days five working days which is fine i think if the quality if it comes and it's gorgeous i don't mind waiting a few extra days but it is pricier so for each postcard you're talking about 60p um but again that's all right isn't it and i would never order just 50 postcards i'd probably order more which makes it even cheaper per unit so yeah if you have a higher budget i recommend going with moo overall i'm gonna say printed.com is my way to go just because the price is great it delivers fast the quality is wonderful but if you do have an extra few pounds to spend i really recommend going with moo.com so i really really really hope you've enjoyed this video i haven't done anything like it before so i know there'll be things i can improve on so please let me know if there's any other products or any other companies you want me to test out i'm more than happy to do it so please let me know so i now have lots of postcards lots of different designs and lots of postcards and thanks to instaprint who sent me double the amount i don't know if that's just me or if that's the thing they do again we should add that to the scores and i'm not going to be putting them in my shop to sell just because there's so many different designs going on there but for anyone that places an order i will be putting one of these postcards in there for free and signing the back of them so if you want to place an order in my shop one of these postcards could be yours but yes thanks so much for watching and i'll see you soon bye guys you
