Print consignee radio

[Music] [Applause] all right so hello everyone i hope you're around there okay okay welcome to our asynchronous session for media and information literacy i'm sir califorio your instructor for this session okay so hello everyone to our students up to georgie ilagan international schools okay so if you're watching us in the morning good morning if you're watching us in the afternoon good afternoon and if you're watching us in the evening good evening so welcome to our uh virtual session here on our youtube channel so we're our chat box is live we're uh viewing our con we're doing our conversations right now here on our youtube channel okay so thank you so much for your comments if you're watching us live right now very good you're doing well all right so this session uh this morning if you're watching us live uh here is uh our slides again so this this time we are moving to our next part of our third module for mil which is media and its effects and we want you to emphasize on this topic which is on media literacy so welcome again to all our students from jb international schools yes you're watching thank you for your comments very good very good so this session for mil is all about the definition of media literacy its importance the fundamental elements of mil media literacy to be exact no and critical thinking so also we just want to shout out to our my colleagues at the philippine association for media and information literacy or pamel so we just recently concluded our national forum for mil or media national forum for media and information literacy last january 24 and 30. we are we had just had a good time with our plenary speakers last those previous weekends we had and we had enjoyed that now so this time uh i'm sharing this particular topic uh which is derived from one of my colleagues back in pamel sir arnell pink so shout out to sir erniel for this slides that we have provided no right now we i did some updates to this original uh slides from sir arnel that's good no so we're looking forward to more contents sir arnel i know other teachers who are also sharing such slides uh well appreciated but so keep them coming all right so let's go to the objectives for this particular topic so in this topic we want to achieve this competencies first is to define media literacy next is to discuss and value the importance of media literacy explain the fundamental elements of media literacy value importance of critical thinking and media literacy and apply critical thinking by identifying fallacies in arguments so in this lesson basically we will define media literacy one this is just one component of mil no and it is really important that you need to know to do this because um later on you will be applying some of these elements of media literacy especially critical thinking so you just so you know this topic will really cover very technical topics i guess so uh bear with me if uh if you don't really get such some of these topics because this is really a very heavy subject especially when you are if you pursue uh a study in philosophy or a study in uh maybe in in the communication arts if you pursue in that field later on but then it's also important for you to know know that even if maybe you will just pursue a career in hospitality and tourism or you will pursue a career in humanities what i say humanity's philosophy arts no or pursue a a business a degree no it's still important that you have to value these skills in critical thinking all right so let's move on to our next slide so let us introduce you to this topic media literacy through these different topics this is the outline for our lesson this in this video okay first is to define and and say the importance of the media literacy as a component no we also want to mention the fundamental elements of media literacy so it's this is one of those topics covered in this particular topic and this comes from different researchers different papers from media practitioners and media philosophers and this topic on critical thinking we want to define critical thinking why is it important in being media literate and we'll do also fallacies and thinking and we'll apply these uh things especially in critical thinking for an application for an activity at the end of this lesson okay so let us investigate some of these controversial events that have became viral in the philippines for the past decade or so so these are some some topics i'll show you may be a little bit sensitive but bear with me as i'll try to explain you know you're you're already in a dollar sense period no you're like almost adults already students so i yes this might be quite sensitive but hopefully this will help you understand why we need to be media literate okay let's move to this first slide here okay this is a image of i know some of you might be familiar with the celebrity here in the philippines so this is coco martin who presented himself in this fashion show the naked truth which is uh produced by bench philippines in 2014 as if you saw those videos uh during that particular fashion show in 2014 you saw how coco martin had this with shown his i know his clothes clothing line with a model who actually gyrated like it's like this particular female model or dancer try to be like a pet somewhat so if you if you've seen all of those i don't want to put into detail anymore but i'm just showing a picture you know but what issue was raised against this event so if you have the answer uh the chat box is over there you can comment right so what is your answer what what could be the issue that was raised against this event okay so you see this coco marty and this celebrity then he has this model on a leash that acted like a it's like a pet something like that's an animal what could be the issue that was raised so the answer to this is this was sexist so if you could understand that so you could uh see that the male who is the celebrity cora martin tried to dominate quote unquote this animal this female quote-unquote animal or pet no so it really raised a lot of questions why did the producer choreographer of this particular fashion show did this i said to just sell the clothes of bench or something else no and it became controversial and what uh what was the outcome of this particular controversy so bench philippines made a public apology on facebook then also kokomartin issued also a public apology through an official statement now something like denying the fact that this was like just two on the line just to sell or uh this was unintended and unintendedly to offend certain people groups especially women okay so this is quite controversial and it raised a lot of questions so good job who answered the issue okay or somewhat uh gave an idea of the issue that was raised against this event okay so the next image might be quite sensitive to younger audiences who are watching here but i just want to erase this one also this issue of fhm okay this is bella padilla another celebrity posing this cover of this men's magazine with models that are more or less dark skinned in the background this is uh this is the march 2012 issue of fhm philippines this is the ben's magazine so as you can notice this particular uh this particular magazine really raised a lot of questions why is it this bella padilla who is light skinned and has models around her who are darker skinned so bella padilla look at the caption on the bottom stepping out of the shadows so what particular shadow did did they portray in this shoot really in this for this magazine so this was uploaded on the fhm official facebook page uh on february 25th 2012. and once this particular magazine cover was released a lot of people have reacted a lot on this why is it this light-skinned girl had these so does it give you a message what particular message that does this particular magazine portray so here's the question now so what was the issue race against this cover photo tell tell us in the chat box or in the comments below so what could be the issue that was raised against this cover photo okay so i guess you might say racist so that is right so if yeah there was a black woman over there there's a black woman black black women around her in this particular photo shoot and it does it raises the question that so is someone who is lighter skinned or dominant against these people who are dark-skinned so what was the outcome of this particular magazine issue so what happened is that uh fhm under summit media recalls this cover of this issue and bella but they apologize on twitter so and the outcome uh the subsequent issues of this particular issue march 2012 turned into this one okay subsequent religion releases don't have those dark skinned girls around this particular model bella patilia the celebrity right so sadly or i don't know unfortunately the issue was well faded out in the background but then that the traces the damage has been done and probably no one would really really remember what happened okay so this is another controversial issue that most people would like ignore because this is just a men's magazine and yeah it's sexy and blah blah blah but it can raise an issue of certain social factors like racism for for instance in this example okay let's move on to another controversial image here okay so this is a t-shirt saying it's not rape it's a snuggle with a struggle so in large print the word is it's not great then the the text underneath is as a snuggle and write a small text with a struggle okay so this is actually this was actually sold at the sm store in essen mecca mall the year 2014 this particular shirt this was raised by a citizen named karen kunowitz in her facebook post so uh this was sold uh this was sold on a department store and a very uh in a famous or one of the large shopping mall chains here in the philippines so what could be the case here so what could be the issue that was that was raised against this particular t-shirt design all right so what's your thing what's your thoughts about this uh check out i want you to comment on the chat box what particular issue was raised against this shirt all right so let's see okay so again this was about rape and that t-shirt explicitly talks about rape defining that it's not rape as it is defined it's just a snuggle with a struggle so what issue was raised specifically this is a concept of the trivialization of rape and promoting rape culture so it's like you're defining that rape it's okay to get raped but just redefine that that's it's a snuggle the guy who wants to rape you gets to snuggle you quote unquote and but you will struggle with it but it it trivializes the the concept of rape and promotes rape culture and that's not good okay so what happened what what is the outcome of this particular uh this particular shirt but that was sold okay so sm store or sm super moss responded to this issue by its twitter account at sm super malls and immediately they called out the consignor or the consigning of this particular shirt to pull out that from the inventory so hopefully that that was raised and hopefully we don't we won't see shirts like these in the future okay so what now is media literacy so let me show you the definition official definitions from some of the major sources of uh of media and information literacy so let's start first with the the definition from the unesco mil curriculum so this is the ability to decode analyze evaluate and produce communication in a variety of forms so your skill to decode like tear take apart and analyze and evaluate and you produce the communication about that particular form of communication in a variety of forms okay next is from medialit.org this is their definition of media literacy it provides a framework to access analyze evaluate and create messages in a variety of forms from print to video to the internet in various forms so if you have the skill to access these particular forms of media and communication so you are media literate so that defines your skill in media literacy okay so let me share some of these videos that defines or explains why we need media literacy and why do we have to have media literacy so first video is from i speak media about what is media literacy all right as well i'm joey papa and i love media i'm a media maker communicator husband and father of five this summer i learned that we all of us should be getting ready for the first ever media literacy week here in the us great but what is media literacy i had no idea when i think of literacy i think of books learning how to read right then i learned that media literacy is about reading reading the media from a critical point of view understanding that we're living in relationship with media because we are and i started to see media from a whole new perspective and then i started thinking when are my kids when are any of us not plugged into some sort of media am i okay with my kids with anyone's kids spending nearly 11 hours a day with media how much of what my kids believe to be true is coming from a voice in media not particularly in line with my own whose messages are they walking around repeating is there any space between who they are and the media they're immersed in what role is media playing in their lives in our lives okay so right that was from my speak media uh defining media literacy and this was one of those videos that came out in the first ever media literacy week in the united states let's move to other slides here okay so another video from the center of media freedom and responsibility or the cmfr here in the philippines this is their video on how do we define media literacy [Music] media literacy refers to the capacity to understand analyze and critique the media and to meaningfully participate with messages in print audio video and or internet discourse why be media literate the prevalence and influence of the media make it a necessary part of 21st century education the different media radio television print film and cyberspace bombard billions of people daily with information and entertainment the media cycle never stops its reach goes beyond national borders operating 24 7. billions access the internet regularly media literacy raises the capacity of citizens and citizens groups to participate in public life on another level giving further meaning to information exchange they can communicate their ideas and engage meaningfully in democratic debate media literacy contributes to the improvement of the quality of discourse on public policy and issues media literacy enhances democracy this skill requires understanding of the ethics of the press for example the values and standards of the news media as providers of information analysis and opinion and the different standards that apply to entertainment media with this skill individuals can appreciate the different purposes that media have in human development informed evaluation of media performance must be based on its ethical principles and on its professional responsibilities holding the news media to their own standards is possible only when the public knows what the media do and how they do it without media literacy the public will not hold media organizations to the goals of journalism which is to provide relevant news that help citizens evaluate government and other institutions of power [Music] okay so that is from the cmfr's definition of media literacy so you should be able to understand how we as citizens are are somewhat skillful you should be skillful on how to read the media criticize develop questions about whatever media you you are consuming there or producing that is the goal for us to analyze crit critique the media remember we are already in a media saturated society and we should understand the importance of media literacy to our lives all right so let me proceed go forward to our next slides here okay so okay some recitation questions here so uh if you want to answer you can uh comment on the chat box over there if you're watching us live or uh comments below if you if you're not watching us live okay so um i want you to like answer just remember this is some you should actively participate here so let us uh review what we have defined or what we have heard from those videos and from the definition in itself what is again media literacy and next uh why do we need to read media from a critical point of view based on the first video i just uh just mentioned and we just watched earlier so why is it that we need to read the media analyze the media critique the media in a critical point of view okay and why is it media literacy is so important to democracy all alright so if you have some insights or thoughts about these questions uh again tell us in the chat box it's always live there i'm checking your comments right now and if you're not watching us live it's okay no problem the comment section is just down below alright so hope you had just understood those definitions and those reasons why we need to have media literacy we need to analyze criticize read the media and it's important to have this so that we can have a fair and democratic society okay so what are the fundamental elements of having media literacy this is from art silver blood in his paper in 1995 and we will uh mention one by one these fundamental elements of media literacy number one is an awareness of the impact of media in this particular element note you have to open yourself and you have to be aware how media affects the people and how it impacts the society now how media can impact your lives and the lives of others you have to see that in order for you to have media literacy second one is the understanding of the process of mass communication and somehow not a lot of people especially those who don't really have a communications degree or don't have such background sometimes they just ignore how the news is being delivered how entertainment media is being produced and how print media uh which stories that gets into print media what gets into newspapers or what gets into magazines and all of those then you have to have you have to understand these different processes of mass communication in order for you to understand how you can read the media how you can criticize the media thirdly the strategies for analyzing and discussing media messages you have to understand that media messages whether it's uh explicit or subliminal meaning it it's not it's just in the background the messages are subliminal it's it's on your subconscious you still have to understand how you can and analyze those so you you have to develop those strategies that you need to to have in order to you to deconstruct or somehow pinpoint which parts of those media messages can affect you or can affect others another element of media literacy is to understand of me understand media context as a text that would provide insight into our culture and into our lives all right so um just imagine like uh there is a saying a picture paints a fountain words you know a picture a photograph or a video could show you messages of a big paragraph of what the situation is you just have to read those messages no that context of that media that being that you are exposed to what kind of message that does it convey that would provide an insight a thought or a somehow a perspective of the culture you're living in on your life on the lives of others all right so i want me to go to the next one another element of media literacy is to ability to the ability to on enjoy understand and appreciate media content you know media is also meant to be enjoyed no that is why we have entertainment media and but also even in the news media and these um mediums that are medium are that are somehow in a serious tone we should also appreciate those no even if it's uh it could be quite disturbing or could be quite uh unappealing to others you still have to have an appreciation on those kinds of media content no you have to enjoy them that for example maybe a news report from a journalist covering a war or covering a armed conflict some people might not appeal to that particular topic or particular news report but some might appreciate that content because it just goes to show that the medium that is being portrayed in that or that message that is being portrayed in that medium could provide an insight to how journalists are trying to or trying to save their lives or trying to protect their lives while they are covering these very dangerous situations no you should appreciate those number six there's an understanding there should be an understanding of the ethical and moral obligations of media practitioners journalists producers editors of cameraman or audio engineers any media practitioner they they practice certain ethical and moral obligations that they need to speak the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth and they need to have some boundaries whenever any ethical or moral obligations gets gets violated at some point they have to set limits so is it so they might ask like is it fair enough that we cover this report or cover the story without affecting the ethics or without affecting moral sentiments of some people or some group of people so they have to understand and you need to understand those also that some media organizations could have some ethical uh some ethical boundaries along the way when they cover news reports so people should understand those no and that is one fundamental of media literacy number seven on element of uh media literacy is the development of appropriate and effective production skills okay so you have to understand also how these production skills you have you can have no you can develop those if you are media literate you can develop how how to properly uh do the angle of say of a certain photograph or a video or how to write properly a news report or a feature story so that's part of the production no and through media literacy you are able to understand the what i mentioned in the previous lessons like design elements and principles those design elements that you apply on a print media that can affect how the message of this particular article can go no it can really affect so you have to have those effective production skills also like design elements understanding of design principles okay this is probably the final one no these are these three are added from silver bloods these are the additions to silver blood's five elements and number eight is critical thinking skills enabling the development of independent judgments about media content so later on in this lesson you will understand what is critical thinking and through these skills you will be able to create and develop those independent judgments without any bias without any influence you have your own judgment about those media content that you consume and that that is what we need to understand okay so these are the fundamental elements of media literacy okay so let's go to another part of our lesson what is critical thinking how do we define that critical thinking which i mentioned a while ago how do we define how how do we define being a critical thinker media we should understand that through critical thinking we will be able to somehow analyze the situations that happen around media happen those situations also that that affect a certain portion of society and even on your lives how how will it affect you as a person as a citizen as a student or as a future professional okay so when we say critical thinking are you sure that you would argue with someone else is that a critical thinker would you like fight with someone else just to establish your stance as a critical thinker are you a master fault finder finding faults in everything i mean that is not critical thinking okay so these situations that you want to argue with someone oh this is this is wrong this is this is what i know it's right or i shouldn't listen to you you are so wrong you do not i don't agree with you you're so stupid you're so any any defamatory words i could think of no oh or you'll find faults oh this is wrong or that's not correct that that that is uh that can that that's not helpful for me no parang no that that is not critical thinking guys how now how do we define this critical thinking now allow me to show you first a video from bakat on what is critical thinking let's watch this video critical thinking is all all about asking questions the right questions questions that help you assess both the meaning and the significance of claims and arguments building these skills and applying them in your life makes it easier for you to assess evidence evaluate arguments and adapt your thinking so you stay switched on and engaged in different situations critical thinking involves stepping back from a situation to enable you to see all the angles before making judgments or taking decisions it means identifying the key points analyzing the sources of information weighing up different types of evidence just as a judge and jury would do in a court of law and putting it all together into your own independent thought through point of view one thing that it's very important to realize is that critical thinking isn't about being critical and it's about much more than just finding flaws in other people's claims by itself that isn't enough to give you an edge to be a true critical thinker means being creative reflective and adaptable evaluating the evidence to decide for yourself what is accurate what is relevant and do i have sufficient information to take a decision on this topic thinking critically means taking a stand for yourself it can be difficult not to be swayed by close family or friends views on things or certain beliefs that just feel right but learning how to use these higher order thinking skills can help you to feel much more confident in your own opinions and conclusions critical thinking is also about a sense of discovery and excitement not only about learning but evaluating arguments to see how they stand up and filtering for yourself what resonates is right or wrong by using these techniques you'll find yourself becoming a clearer better thinker macat learn better think smarter aim higher okay so that is critical thinking something to explore to not just find faults but think of those questions that come up that can come up in your mind whenever you see these arguments like the is kovit 19 came from animals or did covet 19 came out from a laboratory where are those questions or is is the lockdown effective in keeping uh citizens out of uh being affected by the pandemic or all of these questions about issues no but then they didn't apply their critical thinking skills and they themselves get affected by these uh these things that happen to them every day every moment of their lives no so i want you to give you a sense of how do we define critical thinking now so this is from scrivener and paul uh in 1987. this is their definition of critical thinking so critical thinking is the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing applying analyzing synthesizing and or evaluating information gathered from or generated by observation experience reflection reasoning or communication as a guide to belief and action so critical thinking is a process no and it really involves these skills it's conceptualizing applying analyze citizen these competencies that you need to have in order to generate the outcomes here of critical thinking is your observation your reflection your reasoning your arguments or a message or communication and this will guide you to develop your beliefs about the the the medium or whatever message you have received and an action to that particular issue all right so none on critical thinking dapatm foreign foreign [Music] okay so that is why we have to have critical thinking whenever we analyze media okay this is a fun definition of media critical thinking no this is from paul 1992. critical thinking is thinking about your thinking while you're thinking in order to make your thinking better kind of stretch your mind is your mind being stretched by this definition or something tickled your brain over there thinking is thinking about your thinking your thinking to make it better thinking thinking thinking think and thinking thinking critical thinking you have to dig deeper into your thinking more thinking and i think this will end our lesson or this session for this video so uh let me ask you before we end why is it that critical thinking is very important important on critical thinking so before we'll end why not answer this question in the chat box just a simple simple answer lang the chat box is over there or in the comment section below no or if you have already commented no no reply reply no critical thinking is really important and how why does it have importance to you as a person as a citizen as a student no thinking and that will be discussed in our next meeting or next asynchronous session at the inside synchronous video nathan okay so again we're still in module three we'll continue with this lesson on media literacy let's uh define these logical fallacies now that that would be our uh next part of this video no logical fallacies and i'll mention 10. so just help me with that so we will join with our virtual instructors later on in this particular session and uh as we end this lesson on media literacy we'll apply critical thinking for an activity hopefully you're present during this video on our next asynchronous session okay so deep thinking we need to think What is an electronic and digital signature?

To understand the difference between a signature stamp and electronic signature, let’s consider what electronic signatures and signature stamps are. An electronic signature is a digital analogy to a handwritten signature, while a signature stamp is created using a method called hashing to formulate a unique private and public key. Both are legally binding. However, electronic signatures are much more convenient from an ease-of-use point of view because signature stamps require several keys and a digital certification for each signature (e-stamp) applied.

How can I sign a paper document and a PDF file?

If you received a paper document that you want to sign electronically, you should first scan the document and then upload it to your airSlate SignNow account. If you have a PDF, then you can upload it to your account right from your device or the cloud. Open the PDF in the built-in editor and apply your electronic signature using the My Signature tool. You can draw, type, or upload an image of your signature using any device and get a fully executed document in just a couple of clicks.

How do you ask people to sign PDF documents?

airSlate SignNow provides users with an easy-to-configure eSignature workflow that helps sign documents and send them for signing online in just clicks. To set up a workflow, upload a file and edit it; insert fillable fields for data and signatures. Click Invite to Sign to proceed with customizing a signing order. Enter the recipient email(s) and take advantage of Advanced Options. Note, if you want more than one signer to eSign your document, add more signature fields and assign roles to each one. After you click Send Invite, the people you are sending it to will receive a notification with a link to the document.
