in my line of work presenting the highest quality image is key start building your website today at squarespace.com use the offer code car to get a 10% discount I'm Carl Taylor and this is my Squarespace I want to talk to you about preparing your images for print and I mean by print I mean professional lab prints for exhibition quality prints now if you're going to spend a lot of time doing great photography and then you want to output your pictures to great display material it's very important that your screen is calibrated I use the x-ray system of calibration this is a densitometer it clips on the screen with the software provided it will run through a series of test colors and contrast ranges and it will calibrate your screen so that it is far more accurate and therefore more likely to match the output at the other end when you're getting your print made at a professional lab now that's the first stage of the process one of the other things that you need to think about is to do with the preparation of the image in Photoshop before you send it for printing because there are a couple of things that you can do to enhance the image for the printing stage and the reason is that when you look at the image on screen like we're doing here it looks very bright and punchy nice and clear but the reality is that you're changing material you're going from a screen image here which has got a beautiful vibrancy to because of the backlit screen display device and then you're going to put that image onto a printed piece of paper and it will lose some of that vibrancy when it's on paper because you're dealing with a reflected light image rather than a backlit display like we've got here so there are a couple of things that you need to put into place that may enhance and help the image for the printed material now those things are usually to do with contrast and sharpening so we're going to look at a couple of those techniques all the techniques that I use anyway to enhance the pictures a little bit for printing other things you need to think about our image size output checking that the images of sufficient resolution you can do that in the menu up here using image size you can check the dimensions of your image and the resolution which is in pixels per inch your pro lab printer will specify and tell you what the pixels per inch settings are of the machines that they're outputting to I generally find with my images and the lab that I use that they can easily output to twice the size that the Photoshop document says that it the image is actually showing as other things that you might want to think about as well as if you want to put...
