hello I'm Sarah from the cap office and I'm going to walk you through the cap application process as a brand new cap student you'll start at apply dot Wisconsin dot edu first you'll have to create an account to use the Site you can make your login ID and password anything you like I suggest using something easy to remember as you may very well need to access the site in the future this email address is where your automatic confirmation email will be sent after submission you sometimes the site will take longer to load the next section this may happen at any point but it's nothing to worry about patience is key if at any point you get kicked out of your application you'll be able to start again where you left off your answers to these initial questions will determine which application you fill out follow these next few clicks closely if you've never before taken a college course choose the first option no college courses if you have taken courses from another UW school or your local Technical College choose a second option AP courses do not count as college courses choose special / non-degree choose uw-oshkosh choose the option here that applies to you choose high school special / early college credit program choose cap cooperative academic partnership program select the term during which your cap class will start if you're not sure select the fall term since this will automatically carry you through the spring term for that year now we move on to the application itself you'll see by looking at the key here that all these sections are marked as to do as we complete them they'll be marked off with a green check if any section is flagged with an error it will be marked with the red X let's move on and begin with the campus specific section since you haven't yet completed any Oshkosh classes select no for the first response then skip down a little bit since this next questions are only needed if you said yes would ask to put which course or courses you intend to take just put your best guess anything from English 101 to college English to senior English works just fine for this question for this next question if you know where you wish to attend college after high school feel free to select the campus if it appears you can also select not listed or unknown if you don't know you may skip the applicant statement and just click check for errors and continue this button appears at the bottom of each section you'll need to click the same button to move on to each new section now on to personal information you'll see that your first and last name have already been pulled in from your account information just a bit ago the preferred name field can be confusing for some this field is meant to indicate a name that you use on a daily basis that is significantly different than your legal name it is not for a nickname if a preferred name is indicated it will be used for net ID login accounts and will appear on rosters the legal name will appear on all official documents such as a transcript we ask for your social security number as a unique identifier for your student account all US citizens have a social security number and must provide it here if you do not have a social security number please fill the blanks with zeros for each number double-check that your birthday is correct respond to the identifying questions as they best apply to you you make sure that the email address listed in the preferred box is accurate and can easily be accessed this is where your UW Oh student information will be sent close to the beginning of the semester if you've lived at the same address since you were born just put your birth month and year you click confirm address you indicate that you will be graduating from high school and are currently enrolled there again you'll see a slightly longer loading time here while we wait I'll add that if you are completing a fall application you will receive your student ID information in early August if you are completing a spring application that information will be sent in early January this information will include your UW Oshkosh student ID number and information on how to complete step two the course registration course registration is when you will actually sign up for the courses you're taking and finalize your schedule for that semester if you encounter any issues select the country then the state then the city etc you for your graduation date go ahead and enter the future date that corresponds with your anticipated high school graduation the high school courses in progress section is asking about high school courses you will have already completed prior to the start of your cap class you can pick any class you like fill in the appropriate information and hit save you only have to fill out one course before moving on you if you took other college courses previously such as through your local Technical College answer these questions as they apply to you and add in the information for the college or university that granted your credits if this is going to be your first college course ever leave everything blank except for checking the small box reading I have no institutions of higher education to report you on this tax question everyone's answers may be different ask your parents or guardians which applies to you you once you get to this screen you are finally done answering questions click perform final check for errors excellent no errors on our application you just need to retype this information to electronically sign and submit this application there you have it the application is submitted it'll take a few days to appear in the UW Oshkosh system but this is your confirmation that it's done if your school or teacher asks you
