[Music] hi everybody this is Sam with Python basics and we are going to do a quick video on format phone numbers I thought this was a pretty good little idea so alright let's just jump into it and before we get too far just want to remind everybody to make sure that if you have not subscribed already to go ahead and do that because we do have videos every single day and I really don't want you to miss anything because we're really starting to build on all these little techniques that we have done in the past so all right so let's just see what we're gonna do so we already know about formatting so phone numbers and let's just take input from the user so X and put number give him space close this out so alright so to remind you input defaults into a string so whatever you put into it if it's a number X oops Wow an X is a string so we don't have to change anything right now all we have to do my fingers are not in the right place today there we go print so all we have to do is just format this the way we want to and we use our little placeholders with a - another placeholder and a - and our last placeholder so then we close that out around format now this is the only part that we have to really start be thinking so we have our X then we need to slice so then we are starting from the beginning to the third place so that's 0 1 so when you're what helped me remember is that you want the third number so you go right up until oh yeah so it's first 3 so 3 then I close that out then X then I start at 3 and I need 3 more so I go then my last is X and let's move this down just a little bit make sure you can see everything so sorry I lost track of where I was so then six on to the end so let's make sure that I have this closed out right and I did not cuz I got a weird little spacing and one parenthesis two parenthesis and I am good so now let's run this should be what right there should be clear okay so now I call phone number okay two five five five five one two three zero so there we go and that is that it's a boom I just saw this quick little puzzle and I thought it would be a very very perfect little question for us to do so there we go thanks for watching don't forget to click that like and subscribe button and most important that notification bell and we'll see you next time bye guys
