once your channel is gaining a certain amount of traction the sponsorship offers just seem to fly into your mail account without and insight but i will challenge you give me five minutes of your time and i will tell you why you maybe should not accept any of those sponsorship offers that you're getting hey guys and welcome to my channel my name is luke if we have not met before i'm a full-time content creator on youtube as well as on twitch on my youtube channel i'm trying to teach you how to turn your hobby into a business and how to monetize it if that sounds interesting to you make sure you hit the sub button down below as well as the bell so you get notified every wednesday and saturdays upload if you have any questions my social links are all in the description and i also stream live on twitch every monday wednesday friday 10 30 am mmst link in the description but let's get started with a video that wasn't up with me just so we're all on the same page this video is not meant to talk down on any business business practices brands or creators that have cooperated with those brands this video is simply aimed on helping smaller streamers content creators youtubers to handle their first sponsorship offers and one thing apart from all of that is it is really important that you need to know the values of your brand what you are standing for and how much you are worth when a company comes along to offers you a sponsorship or a deal know your value and then make sure that that aligns with whatever the company is offering but let's get to the very first point and that is never accept the sponsorship on the same day i do that with anything in life i never try to accept anything within the same day i would like to go home talk it over with someone and then maybe even sleep over it over the night and then make a decision in the morning i think this is really helpful because sometimes you get pressured into things you get told this deal expires in the next hour this discount is only good for the next 20 minutes and if you see those things that should be a really big red flag that there's something fishy going on and you should never accept the offer on the same day if a company really wants to work with you and want something in return from you they will give you time to look over the contact to renegotiate the contract if you feel the need to and there is no rush in the sense of that you have to complete it in the next 10 hours where the deal is on the table my second point is if if it's too good to be true it's probably not true and here's a personal story that i experienced just a few weeks ago i got contacted on my instagram account you can find the link in the description if you know i post a lot of pictures of my docs i got contacted by an instagram account that sells doc products and they offer me a sponsorship this instagram account then offered me a sponsorship and a collaboration with their online store to sell their products and represent the brand at first i was super excited about that and that's something i really wanted so i wanted to accept the offer but then i thought about myself they offered me to hand out a 30 discount to my audience 30 just think back about your favorite content creators on youtube the biggest names if they have ever given you a 30 discount 30 discount that seemed extremely high so i did a little bit of digging about this online store and what it turned out was it was simply a drop shipping store if you don't know what a drop shipping store is there are really good videos on youtube that explain that but in short it is an online store handled by a single person usually and if you buy something on that named store the owner just turns around goes to asia buys the stuff for about a dollar or two ships it to you and charges you twenty thirty 30 drop shipping can be highly profitable but the product value and quality is extremely low and it comes with insane shipping times because it comes from across the world when i found out this was simply a drop shipping store i told them i don't want to have anything to do with that store because i don't want to put my brain in jeopardy by representing a low quality product so if it does seem too good to be true do some digging on the company and it might just turn out to be too good to be true and the last part of this video is if it's a sponsorship program that you apply for is it really a sponsorship though and this goes for an insane amount of big brands out there where you can apply for a sponsorship program and it turns out to be simply an affiliate program in the end i'm not saying there's anything wrong with affiliate programs at all it can be a great way for content creators to make a little bit of money on the site or to represent something they're really standing behind before getting into a sponsorship with a brand but do keep in mind if this affiliate program requires you to buy the product first or requires you to buy a certain amount of product every month in order to keep your affiliate code what are you really gaining out of this are you really making enough money with this affiliate program and selling this product to enough people to pay off the product that you have to buy in the first place in most cases this is not true affiliate programs are great for the company themselves because they have nothing to lose and you have a little bit to gain but if you are required to make an initial purchase in order to even get into the affiliate program i don't think this is really worth it this is just the company ripping you off and i would definitely stay away from that there are great affiliate programs out there where you simply apply they will send you a unique code that you can then give to your viewers for an additional five or ten percent off and you make a little bit of commission on the side if this is a product that you really stand behind go for it and this leads me to the end of the video at the end of the day you have to align the company's values that you are representing with the values of your brand it is not worth it to compromise your brand for a little bit of quick money in the short term it is much more valuable to keep your values deny sponsorships and find the right fit that you can work with for an extended period of time once you have compromised your brand's values your audience will know and it is really hard to recover from that and you are just brand marked as a sellout so guys if you enjoyed this video make sure you hit the sub button down below as well as the bell smash the like button for the youtube algorithm i really appreciate you taking time out of your day to be here and make sure you share the video with your family your friends and the dog i hope you guys have a good day and i will catch you on saturday [Music] you
