hi penny Lane here I teach contractors and the bookkeepers how to setup and use QuickBooks in a way that will allow them to do everything they need to do efficiently and give their contractor the reports and information he or she needs to make brilliant decisions and more money today's quick tip comes in as a question from Gabby in Florida her question is I'm currently trying to print an invoice that's been partially paid but when I go to print it it does not show the paid portion it shows the total invoice amount how can I format it so that I can send it to the customer and they know it's due great question if we look at this invoice for instance we can see the total invoice amount the payments applied and the balance due but when we go to print it for the customer we don't see that information the issue here has to do with invoice template most of the invoice templates and QuickBooks are not default formatted to show payment in balance to information if you'd like this to show on your invoices you need to edit the template we can edit the template right here with it open by going to the formatting tab and then the customize data layout option here we'll choose the footer tab and check it out we actually have an option to print payments and credits and balance to information right on the invoice if we say ok we've updated our progress invoice template and now when we print it our customer will see the total invoice amount the payments and credits applied and the balance due pretty clever you can always edit your template while you have the invoice form open but you can also work with your templates by going to the list menu lists let's and here you can open your templates for editing create custom templates so that maybe some of the templates you want to show the payment and balance new information and some of them don't you can create multiple invoice templates to use to send invoices to your customers you can also send your customer a statement if you're looking to send them in from balance to information and that's under the customer menu create statements if you choose a statement period from two you'll get an information about all the transactions during that certain period you can do that for one customer it's different information it doesn't show how the payments were applied to the information to the invoice but it does give your customer information about their account I hope you found this tool tip really helpful please subscribe to my youtube channel and when I have new tips and tricks for you you'll be notified also check out my website at QuickBooks now comm find me on LinkedIn Penny Lane and like me on Facebook my page is QuickBooks now thanks so much please stay in touch...
