[Music] hello again welcome to pure Swift and today I want to talk about a topic that kind of threw me off when I first started learning the iOS development I used to run through code and I would seize the look text I would see did set or well set and have these brackets behind them and before for a long time I used to trip me out you know I used to be like what is that exactly I would not see your developers above it and they were telling me well these are property observers what does this mean so I would look online in you know uh long story short I think I didn't really understand what will set or did set word until about a year into my iOS development career so in this episode I want to kind of shorten that time span for you I want to basically show you what I've learned so that you don't have to spend in your confuse trying to learn what property observers are if you recall what I said in my very first video if you focus on your core as a developer you're gonna be much better than constantly learning or studying different libraries what I've noticed in development meaning is that people tend to focus on using the new kits that are out there the ml kit eight-hour kid or whatever hot new library gets put out there but they don't focus so much when they're poor you know how to test your code how to check for leaks how to use instruments and all that other good stuff I believe that as a developer if you focus on your core everything else will take care of itself you could pick up a library and build amazing things with it as you please so in this episode we're going to look at puppy observers more specifically did set and will set let's get into it all right I hope you're ready to learn let's get right into it we're gonna cover will set and did set property observers so start by creating a stroke and call it robot and this robot is going to have a property called York it's going to be a type int it's going to be equal to 1994 another property I'm going to give a robot is called type Y on your string and when I see it's an assault cyborg okay I'm going to give it another property this one is going to be called it's turned on it's going to be a boolean and I'm gonna assign it the false lastly I'm going to give it a puppet called name gonna be a string an optional string and here I'm gonna put a puppet observer on it and I'm going to put a we'll set observer and what a Wilson observer does is it fires whatever you put in that in that bracket in that space before the value is stored so whatever I write in here between used to racket it's going to be fired right before the value is stored inside the name property so what do I got done before my name is a sign well I want the boolean property so go from false to true so basically right before the robot gets a name it's gonna be turned on so I'm gonna give my start on initial enter and since all the properties have values already I could leave this empty so let's see this in action so I'm gonna create a new robot I'm gonna snitch idiot and now what I'm going to do is I'm going to test to see what my boolean property is right now so currently as you could see is tournament is equal to false okay but watch what happens if I give the robot a name so I'm gonna say you about that name is equal to root Oh and I'm going to again test the golden poverty and as you can see is turn on is now automatically turned on and what did this is my will set observer right before the mean full girl restored it fired this statement and it turned the boolean from false to true but what happens if you want something to happen after the value is stored not before telling your story after the values story that's what did set observers are for so did set observers are fired after the values story so let's create an example so I'm gonna write I did sext evening ok good say and remember did set fires after the values stored so what do I got done once the robot gets a name well I don't want the robot to say something so I know we're about to say I am now turn on okay so you know right before the name is stored its turn on you know right after the name is store the robot sees I am not or not so let's give this a try so a new robot that name is equal to four okay I'm gonna check the boolean property again or the third one and there is notice that the bullet partly is turned on thanks to my Wolf's observer for radicals console.log and if you see it prints I am now turned on and that keep from the didset observer which right after the Valerie story it printed I am now turn on like I indicated in that statement so that's it for this video I hope property observers are not clear to you if you like what you saw in this tutorial don't forget to press the like button it really helps my channel grow and I hope you subscribe see you in the next sort of curiously
