Print countersignature endorser

good afternoon welcome to stalls TV I'm Bob Robinson welcome this afternoon as we talk about six questions to ask before investing in print and cut we're excited to show you a little bit of everything here we're going to deal with those six questions the first of course you're going to start with with a lot of the how to's and then what you can do but I'm not going to tip all our hands on those six questions I know you're all taking notes but I do appreciate your attendance we we do want to know a little bit more about you and so before we go too much further we're going to go ahead and do a couple poll questions for you to answer so I can get to know you a little bit better understand the audience that we're talking to all right so this morning or this afternoon sorry or eastern time here we have Karen Ross who will be helping you facilitate here and she's going to go ahead with those poll questions for us and for that one Bob 50 percent said yes in the near future 25 percent said yes but not for a while 17 percent are short and 8 percent said no so I'll launch the second one which is what decorating methods do you offer okay 50 percent screen printing 50 percent embroidery 67 percent cadcut 25 percent sublimation and 0% btg I like what I heard all right very good appreciate your taking the time to do that for us today it says six questions to ask before you invest in print and cut and right off the very bat number one the first question you should ask is how exactly does it work and it's sometimes confusing some of you may gut may have got this down you have researched this until you're just short of put it over the credit card and taking the plunge some of you are just saying this sounds like a cool prospect process I'd love to see how it works going to very very brief one-time print cut weed masks etc so just go ahead and send a design to the printer like Aaron zoom in on that printer here while I send a design over I will talk over this because it's going to take just a couple minutes for this to get started we're using right now the printer reason right now is the is a 30 inch model the roland vs-300 i it's a print and cut unit so we had prints everything rolls right back in contour cuts but where it all begins is with the artwork so you're going to create your art however you typically do whether it be CorelDraw W Illustrator we prefer vector art because you're going to need to put a cut line around this design wherever you choose now it will cut wherever you tell it to the nice thing is you you have control of where the cut lines go you also have control as to how many and what I've been putting multiple designs in so being unattended printing cut I can actually send to the I can gang up in one file two of these for this six of another one pretty much take my mornings production send it to the printer cutter and go about my business my regular production and start start weeding masking pressing all those different things which were going to show as well I'm will step over and nevermind it did it on its own there are two the reason we were waiting for just a minute there are two heaters on this machine there's one in the back and that is a pre heater that one pre heats the material it heats the material up to it to a level that someone has already predetermined knowing that this is going to soften up or open up the print receptor on that material so it accepts the inks properly there's also another one right here on the very front apron there is a this is actually warm so as it prints it's going to go over top of that apron it's going to help dry those inks so they're not going to smear although most of the materials that we have are pretty much dry as they as they apply now these are solvent based inks it is inkjet and it's solvent based so that means exceptional durability outdoors this is the same process used for signs and banners and decals usually on a much larger format but we've taken that technology and kind of borrowed it and created heat transfer film for all types of apparel and as we get into the other questions we'll get a little more deeper there as far as as far as what types of mature you can apply to and what all the versatility of the machine is I failed to throw out there as I always do if you have any questions at all feel free to type those in the chat box and Karen will let me know when we have a question we'll do our best to answer them if it's pertinent to the class we'll answer right here on air if it's just something simple she'll handle that there if I don't know which is rare I will will go get back to you a little bit later all right that was a little egotistical but it's way it is so you see the design is just about done printing full-color as many colors as you like few or many as you like is another real selling point of this process good colors about a deeper saturation in any any process that you can get in my opinion at least and I'm sure the videos not doing it pure justice but if you see this type of thing alive it's that that red is about as red as it gets and the tough colors to hit on this on with inkjet printing with this type of printing is are the reds and the blacks are they bold or they vibrant or they does a good saturation we have a question does the ink dry in the head like DTG inks do does the ink dry in the head like DTG I notice there wasn't anybody who's using DTG and maybe some of you have used it you get this those horror stories to talk about how the tendency for these water-based inks even in sublimation and especially DTG they do tend to dry up it's just a nature of the inks with this process it's a solvent based ink so it's not going to dry up as nearly as quickly now if I let this thing sit unattended with not plugged in just said deal with it yeah in a few weeks we'd have some problems we'd have to do steak some steps and try to get it cleared out but and that's one of our other steps but we'll jump to it now as long as you leave it plugged into the wall they do a self-cleaning cycle every 24 hours and the phrase that I can tell you and this has been true every time and I did it proves it this morning these things sit idle here in our office and our in our TV studios because we're not printing production we're just doing occasional demonstration I never approach excuse me never approach one of these and wonder if it's going to print okay I never have to do a to blush I don't do a test print I don't look and see if all the inks are okay it just prints we have another question what is the recommended size machine for decals banners and wallpaper and also being solvent based is there a bad chemical smell okay I will deal with a chemical smell part of it we're going to deal with the different models a little bit later hopefully that will answer all of your questions because that can be anywhere across the board but as far as the smell goes you don't smell it it is an eco solvent ink the only thing the only reason you know it's running if you hear a little bit of a were the machine we don't notice any smell whatsoever no ventilation required it's very safe everything is CPSIA compliance are very very very very safe non-toxic for sure go to a wide shot on this if you can now I'm going to go ahead and do a quick sheet cut and that's a feature it already in case you didn't notice he did already print and cut and now these designs are ready to take off so through the control panel here I'm just going to do a sheet cut it's a separate blade than the cutting blade that was doing the the original cutting contour cutting around the design it's going to just cut it off you can set this up to automatically cut and fall into a catch basket or a box or blanket or whatever you have down below we're gonna step over to the table now and do some weeding and masking a little extra material here getting get rid of that you wouldn't waste as much in your shop so shame on me it was free to me weeding is those of you doing CAD cut which is a good number of you it's the same principle but the good news is we've got all these different colors on this design and it's all one layer so I don't have to do any special extra layer so I just pretty much one print one cut one we'd start at the corner and just pull away the excess now this is a very production friendly material that I'm using this is our Express print it is a printable polyurethane material good for cotton and polyester very matte finish very lightweight very thin material doesn't have great stretch and rebound like some materials we have there's one little cavity in here that's why this lovely easy reader is huge you should have at least 20 of these in your shop because they come up missing somehow there's one little cavity in here behind Mickey's ear that I need to pull up I'll get each one of those alright now that we've got all of those now it's time to do the masking so what this was for those were brand new this was a white piece of material that is laminated on top of a plastic carrier or polyester carrier we print on top of the white material and we only cut through the material that we're going to use so this stays attached to the carrier sheet it needs that carrier to run through the machine without bunching up and tearing up now take a mask this is just a sticky material it's a clear sticky material so I can see my design I'm going to cut off just about enough to handle this now in production now if I've got a shop where people coming in I just need one or two they say this is a great way to go but in real production I'd like to work with a much bigger piece something about the size of this table honestly something about as big as my wingspan that I can do multiple designs at one time be a lot more efficient that way this mask is kind of backed with it just a waxed paper just so it doesn't stick to everything on the roll as you can imagine I'm going to save that wax paper I'm going to put it back down on there as soon as I mask these designs okay that's underneath drop the mask in the center kind of bill it straight down and let the rest fall off to the sides so that we get nice even application there's no bubbles there notice my squeegee is in my back pocket because I can't hold on to those I even recommend in when you're in production keeping a little nail apron of source so you can keep all your tools handy now we're doing with the squeegee is just making sure that we engage that mask to the printed image so that we can lift it off of that that carrier of course I'm overdoing it because last thing I'm going to do is something fail on live TV I'm leaves just a couple swipes but we'll be extra careful today this part makes a little bit of noise this is garbage we'll just discard that off to the side or in the back Karen will clean that up later thank you very much I'm going to put this back on the page on the paper and now we're going to cut them into transfers we've just pretty much created transfers these are transfer just like you would buy from us through the CAD prints program or anybody else who does digital printing we just go ahead and cut them apart now I'm not going to take the time to do them all but we'll take one of these and we'll go to the heat press and apply this one applies to 300 degrees for 10 seconds going to the fusion now it's a little design and it's a little shirt it's what I had available I know they're adorable just lay that right on top I'll notice it's a dark shirt now people always concern themselves specially people come from a DTG background as to can I print white ink and I print onto a dark shirt the material the white media that Express print or any other material that you're printing is the under base that's the white ink underlay that keeps that mature from shining through it we have a question would you recommend a print and cut system versus DTG for customers that want full-color single t-shirts what I recommend deep this over DTG for single color for single shirts multicolor loaded question but I can answer that the problem with DTG is it is no matter what anybody tells you it is largely for 100% cotton it's very very difficult to do polyester especially dark polyester so if I was running a an online store and I controlled the shirts that I was printing on I wasn't customizing for anyone other than InDesign then there's nothing there's not a real problem with DTG although there are people who will combat one against the other as far as color saturation and clean lines and how the art looks everything there are some benefits to dtg2 Oh for print and cut which we'll talk about as we compare the different processes but so I wouldn't say you know if that is being that's being said if those are the only scenarios then the DTG is not a bad choice other than possibly investment and and sometimes the time mess it takes to get to get through a design I like the versatility here but yes another question will this be demoed at the MPLS dock show the decks show in where I'm sorry yes MPLS that Minneapolis got it yes actually I'm leaving there tomorrow morning together Minneapolis show we will have the smaller unit there and we will demonstrate that at any time that you need I'm going to press while we're asking questions okay and what kind of hand does a heat transfer vinyl have compared to screen print or even DTG okay you guys have good questions and you're stealing my whole presentations and knock it off I was kidding you let me pull let me peel this off here the hand is you're never going to duplicate ink on a shirt with a film however you are going to get very close and make it very acceptable for your customers this is the recommended Lee preferred method for a lot of especially the performance wear and a lot of the polyester is out there so hopefully that answers your question but we're going to get a little bit more detailed as we go as well so what we've got here is full color we're going to the money shot now hero shot as Jay likes to call it there's your full color design great detail great color saturation on a dark shirt it really didn't take very much time the part the you know the time to process this as far as the weeding and masking and pressing was very minimal notice that we also did a whole gang of these at one time as far as a printing and cutting weeding and masking so that part came across pretty quick and will step in front of you get back to my spot now I feel comfortable and at ease myself so the question was and we already dealt it dealt with this you can get and pan out so I can see my lovely face a little bit for a little bit the question was previously about the maintenance and and or will these dry up anything will dry up if you give enough time and leaving this plugged in as we said will keep will help avoid that it will it will honestly keep those Jets running cleanly the maintenance on this machine is very minimal compared to other processes especially inkjet maybe once a week or two we will wipe around the printhead with a with a swab with a little bit of solvent on it and that is just you know I'm going to touch the printer you're going to wipe around the outside of that to pick up any splashed up ink so it doesn't eventually drop down on the media maybe once every month or so technicians will explain that to you even greater detail what your maintenance schedule is but we'll we'll go over to the to the where the print capping station is where the print heads rests and clean off or replace the wipers and dampers these are just the felt wipers that clean the excess ink off of the printhead when it comes back for its it's back on top of the cap capping station that's about the extent of it leaving it plugged in doing it you know letting it do its cleaning cycles and doing that general very basic maintenance very minimal other question is how well it is this is these are this is question number two how durable is is this in this process we have lab tested certified everything that we produce using this process with all the types of media that we have for 50-plus washings we stop after 50 that's considered the life expectancy of the garment in this industry 50 washings is it after 50 Washington you're pretty much done with that or the shirts starting to fray anyway so durability maintenance really pretty pretty pretty minimal okay so question number three we're moving along nicely what will I be able to produce and this to me is this is the heart and soul of this machine aside from the door building lack of maintenance to me it is the versatility it is called a versa cam for a reason it's extremely versatile and so there's a whole ton of things that I can produce we're obviously looking at a lot of decorators here so mostly apparel is what we're interested in what I love is the fact that there is no restriction on any fabric or any color fabric so it's any fabric that I want to choose to apply to not every material the Express print that we just did that's perfect that's perfect for day to day products like cotton polyester and blends well you don't need that super stretch and rebound but it's the easiest we have to work with and it's the most affordable to work with example this is the same material on a mesh football jersey now flop it right down here and you can zoom in on that hero shot now everything will be here for a while black polyester Jersey and the what I love here is the fact that I can get very creative it's not just names and numbers although our biggest customers for these are doing nothing but sports and uniforms and the and the performance wear and the cheer and the the fan market but not only on that we've uses the sample so many times but it's a great example of power clipping in some photo images inside of the numbers so it doesn't have to be just read on light on the to co.design save yourself the extra layer although that's a great way to go as well so what your customer was but you can now offer full photo quality images and still stay within the parameters of uniforms doesn't have to always be a dark a dark color this is a white polyester in this case we actually utilize clear now this is the super tech matte clear so the hand on this is about as good as it gets still not ink on a shirt but it's very very it pretty much matches the the texture and the feel of a performance polyester and if you can tell here not but the stretch is exceptional stretch and rebound is great so I can do this now this doesn't require massive it's actually more affordable this is the only time that we print in the in the mirror image is when we're doing on directly to to white polyester performance whereas whereas is where performance where is where performance where is where this this media really shines this is a special effect metallic this is our foil text silver and so we've got this very very popular performance where type material that has a lot of stretch and rebound and I probably stretch this 100 times too so you should have pressed it again so it didn't look quite as stretched of thing but overall a beautiful look and a very thin soft hand so performance wear any color no worry special effects like like metallic we'll talk about metallics a little bit later because there are some options with metallic ink with these printers and I'm going to do my best to talk you out of it material type is not an issue this is actually a red nylon those two colors those two characteristics are usually pretty difficult red is usually a problem as far as bleeding not although nylon is not such a big deal but just adhering to a stretch nylon is usually a problem again great stretch and rebound in the hand the material actually matches up to the fabric itself and that's what you're looking for is that screen print loop is it totally acceptable and actually sometimes preferred absolutely red polyester the worst ever anybody could possibly try to decorate even for your screen printer can be the nightmare red polyester tends to want to bleed through this dye migration the white area is in a lot of these designs with other processes can turn very pink because the dye migrates through it especially with the hotter temps this particular material is the super tech subway stop and it is specifically for this type of situation where you have a dye that will not behave itself that wants to migrate through it has a charcoal adhesive on the back so it's going to help block that dye migration from coming through Karin says we have a question is there a white outline around those images is there a white outline around these images to date we've not had a white outline unless it was preferred I did have one around that around that that first football jersey because it was dark green on a black shirt therefore I needed to bring and bring the the color forward so putting a white outline around things on the outside regardless of what you may hear from people doing it for you styles included it's not necessarily a mandatory thing there are times where I will prefer it only because the very stretchable materials with fine detail can be a very big pain to to weed and they're going to want to curl up on you so therefore putting the white border or any type of border on the outside where there's no ink touching or you're not cutting directly to the ink that can really speed up your production which is why it's done in production for you can imagine how many we have to produce for customers is hundreds of these orders coming through daily so in your case by doing it yourself it's rare that you have to put a white outline around the outside although it could be preferred in certain cases so not only red polyester the blocking the dye migration here's another version on polyester shorts this happens to be the gold metallic you barely feel that that's there I wish y'all could touch this everybody reach close to their monitors if you can touch that all right you know I'm messing with you but it's extremely very very light this is a very light fabric so you always want to keep that material to match your fabric as much as possible it doesn't have to be standard apparel anything that you can put in a heat press and it's a fabric based type material you can use simple hat hat design like this one those are your embroidering would you know you know what it's like to hoop and embroider a hat especially a six panel cap and getting the density just right and worry about your Bob and your tension and all those different things here I see the design I put it on I press it and I walk away it's seconds this hat looks like it might be blank but it actually were utilizing the under bill feature doing full-color underneath using the under bill platen that we've we've patented with with the stahls hotronix machines and i'll pull some of these off of here we're going to start tumbling down accessories additional add-on sales like bags this is a black neoprene again another real problematic fabric as far as dye migration again we utilize the sublet stop on this one and we get a great way this these are greater add-on sales ham we all know that these type of things having the greater markup you can get these bags a lot cheaper than some of the apparel and the perceived value is much greater so we can charge more for something like this if the logo is cool if it works same principle with the neoprene would be for can koozies like that full-color doesn't have to be just a simple one color design anymore umbrellas not going to bother opening this because we don't have the shut setup for that but there's a full color image on a number of most umbrellas are made of polyester even if they're not on it really doesn't matter we have a media for every fabric the tech line that we're talking about I mentioned the stretch and rebound the dye blocking and and the metallic type of features the other features I didn't mention to date is the fact that it has a universal adhesive and it adheres to just about any fabric this is all about the material so the process is one thing but having the right media to perform for the things that you want to do is a whole nother deal as well more neoprene just some more classic examples just kind of grabbed in my toy box here and pulled out as many things as I could find that I've shown in the past laptop case like this with a red metallic and silver type of logo on it can really increase the value of these types of these types of products promotional products everything we do is a promotional product when you think about it though because these are very flexible type materials we'll here to anything even this leather binder is not a problem this is leather or if it's not as sure close enough to be one but it'll stick to leather or pleather all these types of things good news low temp application 280 degrees or less for this type of application Nats weirwood that's makes the difference in your performance where anybody who's ever pressed some of these performance wear shirts and get that great big square from your heat press on there that won't come out it's because it was scorched it's applying it too hot of a temperature the only way to combat that is to use a media that gives you a low temp and to do it in full color you have to kind of resign yourself to use one of the products that do come in like the 280 built in below temperatures a couple more examples on but somewhat redundant another nylon bag utilizing the metallic we like them attack because it does pop especially on the on the the non wearables on these accessories and bags just really grabs people's attention and pull that one out there too because we're getting ready to have an accident here and we did simple messenger back 600 denier polyester full-color logo on this doesn't have to be this is where customers logo is huge I love the 600 deepali because it gives you that very textured feel now this looks like it grew out of there takes on the actual texture this thin material takes on that pebbly finish that you have and then lastly one more example of I guarantee this one's leather because it's an actual belt so we've got this this logo on the belt here so nice this it doesn't have to be a cotton or woven type of fabric as long as we have material here to it you're golden so that's all the apparel now the beauty of this process is the fact that and let you go ahead and pan out because most my stuffs gonna be a little bit larger at this point the other beauty of this process is we're able to do things that are not just wearables some of the main functions of this machine for a lot of the rest of the of the world is to do decals and signs and banners and graphics that type of thing this is a simple yard of decal material these all been printed and cut and weeded each one of these it took like really just minutes because we just walk away from it and these are these are great value we're going to talk about what the cost of these to produce are on our next question but doing this type of work add-on sales using a decal that same logo that was here this is my company logo or this is my message I'm trying to say that was on this bag is now on a car decal that's a nice add-on sale did you have a question might be about to cover this but I'm going to ask you is it price per square inch or foot for full color ink and do you have a cost versus what you can sell these items for yeah that is let's see which one is that less the next question we're almost there will be there so bear with that you're right good question however I won't deal too much to - - specifically what you can sell them for will give you a general range about what the markups are I can definitely give you the cost to produce so decals is one when someone says print and cut we're also talking banners now this is a little scaled-down version because we don't have room to show you the big ones but this is a little 20-inch by I don't know three foot wide banner it prints directly to banner material load in the banner material send your file it prints here's your sign big business here is well very nice fruit for for local type of stablishment so you need something quick yeah there are people who do banners are us type of work and they may undercut you but there's something to be said for a brick-and-mortar store somebody they already trust it's done their apparel to be able to add on some additional sales so they can do a one-stop shop and that's what we're shooting for we're trying to get you to be a shop that can handle just about anything that walks in the door so that we don't have to tell anybody no ever and there's one more a couple more which I don't know where it went I may have lost it along the way that's a wall graphic media and a wall graphic is nothing more than like the fat head is for lack of a better term we can use a licensed or trademark type a name but it's an ultra removable repositionable fabric wall graphic media and it's not just sports it's not all the it can be that you can do that for the Little League teams instead of giving them the little trading cards a little little pictures to pass around their friends they can actually have their own image on their walls but the bigger market in my mind is is nurseries toddlers living rooms that type of thing little duckies and horses and ponies and that could be put on the on the child's wall as I grow up you just take them down lieu them elsewhere you can mess with them and move your little monkey for one room to the other it's like the Elf on a shelf crazy little torturous but it's fun and then one more and I'm going to sneak over our camera for one second and grab this it wasn't prep for it but a satin canvas okay a photo quality high resolution up to 1440 dpi you really can't get a real good look at this as we are but in real life this this photo has about as the best photo realism that you will see kind of directly to the canvas material excellent excellent product far as adding additional sales because the perceived value of this is even much much higher this is simply was printed onto the material and then mounted to a wooden frame I've done it myself without any real professional stuff using the stretcher boards know things like that use a couple 1 by 2's from Lowe's and zip screw them together stretched it over top of ins staple in the back it looks great because nobody looks at this side they're all worried about this one sits on the wall we'll talk about the cost of the each one of these things as we go because this is a big big moneymaker tip and the list just keeps on going you're looking at view through vinyl for the back of the pickup truck not only just the decals but simple bumper stickers all this type of things anything that you can think of that you see around you to start looking once you get one of these were consider ones you start looking around again imagine what else you can do you can put on drinkware and as even some of this stainless steel travel mugs that are all taking those very affordable items and making them have a whole lot of value because your customers images on those alright cost to produce the big question the money question loves the cost to produce well when it comes to heat transfer we'll start there your cost to produce let's forget about the ink we're going to talk about it but everybody worries about the ink cost because you came from an industry where ink was the most expensive thing there and ink is still the most expensive liquid in the in the world the cost to produce for heat transfer for anything that you see that we put on the heat press on the average and they can vary a little bit because that Express prints a little more affordable than some of the tech products but on the average you're looking at including the material you're printing on the ink you're printing with even the mass to lift it up with per square inch is about 2 cents so a logo like this for example that you've got we've got here in front of this I'm going to say that's roughly about a 4 by 4 give or take that's the same as a simple left chest logo it's actually a little extreme for left chest logo but even the worst case that's about 16 square inches that's about 32 cents and that's as many colors as I want on any fabric that I want as many or few as I want so 2 cents the square inch if you like square footage that has 288 a square foot it's rare that you get a 12 by 12 design everything we've done here so far has all been fairly small images even the full fronts people always ask for these great big 11 by 17 type deals you can do them but they're usually not the preferred size for a first shirt so cost of produce for for heat transfer two cents a square inch go all the way up to three for some of the extreme materials even including the shipping and or in case you have extra waste now you can make that more costly by wasting the material like I did this little extra piece here was not used for anything I could probably reclaim that but my time's worth more than what this permit irreal cost so two cents for that when we're looking at decals let's talk about those each one of these just about the same size may be a little bit smaller that cost for me including media and ink it's about a nickel maybe six to seven cents what can I sell that for you bought decals you've seen them on sale they're sold anywhere from two to five dollars retail $2 wholesale $5 retail if it said Outer Banks on it it's like $15 the resort type of things that drives me crazy to see what people pay for simple decals is because it has the right message on it has the right logo on it they can be a lot more some things there's licensing involved too so those are attitude that for that reason but a great add-on great for schools for fundraisers if I'm these cost Mia and say a nickel to produce even if it cost me a dime to produce I sell them to the school for a dollar a piece in volume whistle thousand of them they're going to sell them for two to five dollars everybody made money and it takes very little time because typically when you're talking about decals you're not doing a lot of in and out like you do with cut decals we're printing all the detail and just peeling away the excess and these are ready to go and our material as we talked about banner and ink about fifty cents a square foot fifty cents a square foot is your cost to produce what do they sell them for it really depends on your neck of the woods where you live in the country some areas is very very like Southern California is very very competitive they don't get the same type of price album as we do in the Northeast here sorry but it's not worth moving I don't think cuz you live in paradise but it's you just it's going to vary but there you're looking at somewhere anywhere from from four to six to eight dollars a square foot retail when you sell these out right but even so it fifty cents a square foot now yeah there's a little extra cost to be added to that what if you're going to do any I mean hemming and vomiting of these the simple process but it still going to add some time very little material just going to cost take you a little bit of time the wall graphics and the satin canvas are about in the same the body in the same league as far as pricing goes your cost here for the material in this case the canvas material and the ink is somewhere neighborhood of like a dollar fifty dollar sixty per square foot so this being a sixteen by twenty this thing couldn't have cost more than six or seven dollars to produce I've seen these sell for seventy-five to a hundred dollars especially for senior pictures and wedding photos etc so even if you're not a photographer yourself get in cahoots with your local photographer have him send you these totally ready to go camera ready retouched perfect prints sell into him on unwrapped and let him do it himself a much more affordable price or giving the whole package either way is money made for everyone again the higher end product so just like you know when you're going to print a jacket your design cost the same amount as it does the preneur t-shirt but if I put it on a higher end fabric higher end item I'm going a lot more sales we always want to always want to look at what can we get per piece what's my profit per piece so I don't really want to specialize in selling socks or something very low in I would like to do leather jackets and higher and type performance wear so that I get a lot better more bang for my buck as far as my labor goes I hope that answered the questions for those about a cost to produce and what I can sell for question number five is what I mean what are the shortcomings are there shortcomings short with every process there are things that are just that are limitation so call them that don't say shortcomings but limitations you ask about the hand does this feel like screen printing this one does but anything else on a slick surface like that you're gone especially a smoothest lighter cotton to you you're going to feel that there's some weight there now there's weight ways to avoid that this design if I put this say 10 by 10 on a standard 5.6 ounce cotton shirt or 50/50 I'm going to notice that there's some weight there and that feels like there's a decal so to speak on there to a degree because it's just all material if I do a design like this this now I am going to open the door it like this umbrella it's not bad luck it's okay this arrow point design as you see here a lot of cavities a lot of openings a lot of the fabrics showing through so if that is on my shirt I barely feel that it's there because every other you know half an inch I'm feeling fabrics and now it feel like that almost goes away so creating your art in such a way that you have a lot more openings without making it so laborious to weed this wasn't that bad I really only had one two three four cavities so we'd all up five because the one inside of here and so all this all pulled off in one pool I went back and did one two three four five in the weeding process now yeah well I could make this nightmarish and not have you have a whole bunch of trap cavities like make it a spider web or something like that where everyone is trapped and I have to pick them out that wouldn't make much sense nor what I want to weed it so the hand it's not ink it's never going to feel just like a cure it's always going to be acceptable but DTG we'll always win on hand overall screen print and a lot of cases a lot of these these items that we feel here they feel just like a heavy screen print because they have to build up a lot of ink a lot of heavy white underlay on the bottom so that the fabric doesn't show through therefore I'm getting a very heavy rubbery type of feel especially if there's no cavity same principle applies so it I don't have a problem competing good screen press the only difference there is a texture screen print we'll have it a little bit of a pebbly finish on there because you're feeling the fibers that fibrillation coming up through that the ink has different heights of to it as it hits the fabric here it's this perfect smooth canvas the bonus is with this process is that I have cleaner lines I have there is it's a perfect slate that I'm printing on - I'm getting a perfect canvas so I'm actually getting this clean lines and best color saturation imaginable we have a question is the subject of the hand more of an industry concern because you know you're touching it all the time or do the public is that also a concern for them or they just more concerned with the design I would say it's 80/20 just to throw out a number I say we as decorators are way more conscious of it and worried about it in most cases customers especially retail customers are just happy to see their logo Don the alcohol at all screenprint has uses generic terms like can you just green print us on it you may not even have a screen printing or access to it but they're calling it they just want their design on the show they want to look at it does do that it looks good so in my opinion we as decorators are much more conscious of it much more concerned about the hand although there'll be that's fraction of people who say now and it depends again it depends on how you you present the art and your how you create that design as to whether you can make it look DK I can make even some of our best materials not feel that great just because I pushed it beyond where its natural limitations should be other shortcomings aside from the hand which I'm that's almost like a it's almost like a subjective type of thing is it really an issue I don't think it's that much of an issue but when you do side by side comparison let's say oh yeah I like this one better but the edges I can't do a soft edge if DTG sublimation this type of things where we just take a raster image just earning it directly to to the shirt ink on the shirt onto fabric I can do a little spatter a little soft fade little smokey misty type of look to go out to the edges of the design here I always need a clean cut area where I'm going to actually put a cut line around that so there's always going to be distinct stop of the design we're looking for where the fabric starts how much of a trade-off is that not so much in my mind and then lastly maybe not last bit less I have on my list you may think of some others is while there is no penalty for doing short runs which is why screen printers actually buy these because they want to do this full-color process photo photo quality twenty different colors in a design the in shorter runs and if you have 200 of these some screen pairs wouldn't want to touch or couldn't do that because there's just too many colors they're only six color station they can't do everything that they'd hope for the flip side of that is there is no real savings by doing volume so if I have 500 of these it's not any cheaper per piece but the good news it's a fixed price I know exactly what I'm getting into throughout now I can pick up some efficiencies doing the weeding and masking because if I do the same design that many times I figure out how to get a little faster by peeling from this instead of this and a little comfortable with the masking because okay I got this and you get a little faster as you go just like this is with practice but in general generally speaking there's no real benefit now if I had a design like oh I don't know it's tough to say he pretty much standard 2 or 3 color design excuse me and and there may be 250 of them I would and I don't want to screen print because I don't want the mess and I don't wanna make the investment I would probably just go get screen printed transfers made there are times well I would say don't do this for everything here just because you can it's probably going to be more affordable to go from transfer Express or some other transfer house and say give me these and have them sent to you ready to apply I didn't have to do anything except place the order impress them that's usually about 4 or 5 second press on a shirt and people and go and hang able to screen print type of look in that case we do have plasma cell ink on a shirt but that's only for the higher-ups but when you're getting into those 48 and under or or even if it's more than that there's just more colors that I can that I can handle or it's on a very difficult fabric that I can't get ink to stick to properly or it's almost impossible to screen print because I don't have all the right paddles I'd like to put it on my heat press a lot of reasons why to use this process so let's talk about the difference in models which is question number six which is we said we promised six questions and this is question number six what are the different models and which one is right for me so I'm going to lose to that earlier I said we talked about it we have what you're looking at behind me is the roland vs-300 i now that is the improved 30 inch model so essentially up the ladder it starts with a very basic small tabletop were on a stand be in 2020 and solve an inkjet printer cutter then it moves to 30-inch with there are two models of that and then it's 54 inch which are there are two models for that and there's a sixty-four inch which very few people purchase unless they're doing car wraps that type of thing is just a little overkill so starting at the bottom end I'm going to have Karen swing over to the beyond 20 which is to my right just a quick shot so you get a visual of it we only have two printers in the room so at least show you two of them this is the B in 20 this is the most affordable unit why and it uses basically four colors of ink CMYK there's an extra one there that can use white or metallic we generally set them up with just the four color system with an extra magenta and we'll explain why here in just a bit but while it does the same type of job and spot colors like if I had printed that Mickey Mouse there and on this higher end vs-300 I you probably wouldn't tell the difference other than the fact that it took four times as long it is definitely smaller and definitely slower so that is the lower end it's a great way to get started but it's one that you could actually outgrow fairly quickly if this takes off for you this is big part of your business you already have the business therefore you say man we're going to make a killing with this this one may not last you as long not so much durability as much as it does the fact that it's just not going to produce what I need I'm going to have I'm going to outperform outsell the capacity that machine alright bring back to me after the BN 20 and that one rough numbers you're in this seven eight thousand dollar range when you get all said and done with printer ink delivery etc so that's in my mind that's a it's a great way to get started I have a lot of people going there and say I will go ahead and move up to the other models as I grow your choice my mind by what you knew if you know you're going to need it buy it up front because reselling one of these things it's a little more difficult because nobody trusts you whether it's a good printer or not after that we moved to the thirty inch model this is the vs-300 i there's one under this one looks the same almost identical as far as size and shape it's called the SP 300 I SP 300 I and a lot we get this question a lot what are the difference between all these printers that's why I won't take the time to show you SP 300 I is a little bit older technology it's been around for 10 years or better it uses CMYK just pretty much like the B in 20 so basic four colors of ink has a one year warranty and compared to the upgraded model the upgraded model is 37% faster that being said it's still three times faster than the B in 20 alright you're getting all that math there it's still much faster than the B in 20 it also gives you the ability to 30 and so now I can do some wider posters and some mm semi banners maybe some vertical banners of this machine or smaller ones are used back behind a graduation table or a wedding table or something like that that one is that rough numbers that's going to be right right around in your eleven twelve thousand about twelve thousand dollar range for that for that particular printer the vs-300 i which i have an affinity for this is my baby i love this machine it the difference here is not only is it faster than the SP 300 i it is also has an extra year warranty two years as opposed to one it has eight cartridges of ink and this is where it makes a difference because now I have CMYK light magenta light cyan light black and an option for either white or metallic what that does by having that greater the number of colors I have a greater color gamut I can hit particular spot colors a lot easier I have a better photo quality image that light black were great in that my grayscale is very accurate now i couldn't i would definitely if i did the spa here versus SP the same Mickey Mouse again cartoon type of looking designs they're going to look very similar but when I do that photo quality image when I start doing this type of high-res photos thing it's night and day we're really impressed when they came out with this ink set going to this type of imagery and the fact that it's faster with a with a longer warranty makes a big deal to me now we said we talked about the white and/or metallic I don't like either one in our industry white is somewhat redundant because almost always printing onto a white material so that is the white in your image there was this was not printed with white ink and this image but anything you see white in here although you don't see a real good close-up but that's the material so I recorded itself there's no ink in there's pure white areas so not really necessary the only time I would need white ink is that I'm going on to a a clear window cling or a decal type material and I want white in the design most people shy away from those anyway because the inks themselves are translucent I can see through that ink to a degree so therefore my Reds become kind of pinkish and rose color so I'm not going to have that real color vibrancy that I do on some of the other type of decals so and now metallic metallic just doesn't really wash well in our opinion with our materials that we've had with testing it doesn't hold up in the wash very well as far as durability it doesn't hold up very well in the wash and even on decals it seiz recommended that you would you would laminate that to keep that from being scratch resistant and the cost of one of those little 220 not 440 s is $229 compared to $69 for the same size and a regular ink cartridge so replacing it is a great big deal so if you're not going to use it you're still going to use a little bit every time it cleans we shy away from the metallic because we have so many of these metallic materials that will give you the same effect much more cost-effectively and much more durably is using the metallic material on my pan so we will do our best to shy away from that not a big deal if you gather weight but I'm going to do my best to talk Adam Italian so vs-300 eye we're looking somewhere in the neighborhood of sixteen five sixteen seventeen thousand dollars to get invested in one of those in both of those other models of the SP and the vs they grow up there's two feet more length of the machine in the SP five I in the vs 540 I hope you're taking notes the SP that both 54-inch machines they both perform exactly the same as the other machines do same upgrades apply to each one why would I buy a 54 inch machine just not because I had the biggest printer on the block and it's a it's a bragging rights it's the only reason I would think you need a 54 inch machine if I was going to go into the banner business I know it's going to do a lot of banners or do a lot of car wraps and now that's a very specified industry it takes a lot of trading and skill and some practice to really get good at that but if you knew that you're going to sell a ton of banners you're the only game in town I know I could kill this with the bear thing then go 54 guy get a lot of people saying man I wish out about the bigger printer I had no idea that there was this much money in wider format stuff so 54 inches great as long as I can do banners if you say know what I've got a banner company right now that's gonna do them very affordably I'm very happy with what I get out do don't do that many then in my mind the 30 inches planning and again 64 only 4 in my mind not just banners but car wraps because they'll cover the full hood of a bigger vehicle without having to piece them that's why they go to the 64 there we have a question is would you recommend for wallpapers for wallpapers well wallpapers I've want probably about as big as I would go although putting them up is real difficult if you put up standard wallpaper they're not much more than a couple feet wide but if you're trying to do a great big mural and you're trying to keep the seams to a minimum then then I would say the 30 inch is more than enough but that's a little tricky to do wallpapers because you're not printing edge to edge you're actually going to have to slice those down on the edge because there's always going to be a white edge on the on the edge of the material the pinch rollers it doesn't print from edge to edge the pinch rollers take up the first half to three-quarters of an inch so you would actually have to literally slip that down and to do a full type of mural or wallpaper type of deal any other questions we're just about Dhanam way over my time I said I wouldn't but I did there are a couple questions that I think you should ask yourself those were the six you should ask before the industry before you purchase the other two are that you should ask yourself first of all do I have the market for this I've had actually had some people who thought they were going to buy this and just because they they were going to become millionaires because they had this great piece of equipment well you need it's a tool it's going to service the market that you have the sales that you potentially could garner from this it's great yeah it opens up a ton of doors as you can see but unless I'm in a position to get that word out there and get the sales forward just having one so make sure that you have the market before you jump in too quickly it's the only real failure with this it's not what kind of produce and what it can do is it can I sell the jobs that it can sell that it can produce and then lastly and my graphically prepared for this when I say graphically am I do I have access to full-color graphics vector art can I produce the designs doesn't matter what kind of process you have if your designs are less than average and people are not going to go to you it's about the image so if you've got the graphics down or have the ability or know someone you can or we can hire that out not a problem just know that it's not just push a button I'm going to get a pretty picture of it some folks come that way too so always yeah these type of things you want look at yourself before you make the investment and Mike am I am I ready for this as far as graphic graphically am I ready for this is it time yeah in my in my market do I have the sales of people actually asking for it if we have no other questions going to your last last chance I'm going to thank you for your time today I apologize for taking almost 10 minutes over but I would over view of the print and cut system what all can do for you tune in tomorrow I don't remember the time but check I'll check your listings at please at 2 o'clock Courtney Kerr bitsa will be here talking about monograms with your heat press how you can produce those easily and effectively using the heat press I'm Bob Robinson I thank you for your time see you again
