alright guys Darren from honest money and in this video I'm going to be providing an update on my print on my business I've been starting in 2020 now around two weeks ago I released a video explaining that I was starting to print on demand business and also provided kind of a beginner's guide to what print on demand actually is so first something of interest you make sure you check that video out after this one so what I want to do in this video is just provide an update on a few big decisions that I've taken over the past couple of weeks show you where I am on my journey and also just give you some more information on print on demand in general now the first thing that I want to provide an update on is the sample process itself now if you remember back to my previous video I said that I had ordered samples from four different providers that were available in the UK now at the moment two of those samples have arrived those our street shirts and 2/15 and I've got those samples with me as you can see there we've got one turned up in a plastic bag and once turned up in kind of a brown crafty bag so already we're seeing a slight difference in the way they've been sent out and if I look at the front one of them has got the branding of the company itself in there which isn't great but I'll go through these in more detail once all of the samples turn up so I can do it back-to-back comparison of all of the samples I haven't opened these yet I'm going to hold off opening them until the other samples arrive I know from my hammers and business that I open all of these samples at the same time I'll be in a much better position to compare them fully then I fight for one or two of them now and then the rest in a week or two when the rest turn up so I'll go go and wash my hands no because I haven't uh sterilize these packaging but I'll be back in a moment [Applause] ah right comeback guys with some lovely and clean ray docs refreshed time and tea tree hands no rate ups did not sponsor this video and but yeah that's how those samples have been on order for a couple of weeks two of the four have arrived and I've also ordered a new sample from T spring so you can see that I all did the first four samples on the 24th of April and the T spring of sample I ordered on the 6th of May now when I ordered those first four samples and made that first video I'd heard about T spring but I hadn't spent too much time looking into it at the time I was only trying to focus on UK print-on-demand providers however since I launched that video someone made a comment and a couple of people have messaged me asking if I'd looked into T spring so I have spent some more time looking into T spring and that's what I want to cover on the next slide in comparison to the businesses that I mentioned on the other slide such as print Paul incredible 215 and Street shirts T Springs sell themselves as a full turnkey solution now what does that mean and what does it actually practically mean to us sellers well it resolves two of the biggest issues that are highlighted in my previous videos with regards to the print-on-demand model and that is that by will manage the customer service for you and also the returns or as the other businesses that I mentioned you'd be responsible for those so if we take ncredible as an example what you'd need to do is set up your own website usually using something such as Shopify you then need to create your designs upload them to your own websites create advertising on someone like Facebook drive traffic to your own website then when that sale comes in and then pass it over to incredible for fulfillment however they won't manage the customer service or the returns now if someone like teespring how it works is you don't need your own website because you're actually listing on T Springs our own website so they give you your own storefront then once the order comes in it goes straight to T sprinklers already on the website T spring then to fill that order they send it out to the customer if there are any issues I will manage any customer service and any returns so really all you're responsible for doing is coming up with designs adding them to your teespring store and then marketing them on Facebook so it really is quite a quick route to market compared to some of these other businesses where you will need to set up your own Shopify store also a mr. thing that appeals to me the most is a very low risk way of testing in this business model we know there's very very little time and money investment upfront and it's a great way to test whether the print-on-demand business model is still viable in 2020 yes the margins are going to be slightly tighter than they are if you're running off your own website however I see that as an acceptable trade-off for me to be able to test this business model so quickly and at such a low cost however having said all of those positive things about teespring I do only see it as a short-term solution and there are three main reasons to me why I only see it as a short-term solution and what I may switch to my own Shopify website with one of those other providers if the model does prove viable for me the first one is I don't want to be a hundred percent reliant on any company now those of you that have followed my have a channel know that I have an Amazon FBA business and I'm very very reliant on Amazon for that income now what I don't want to do is come to the print-on-demand sector and then be a hundred percent reliant on another company so if I use someone like teespring they control everything so if anything ever goes wrong as my whole business is at risk so in the long term I want to get away from that I do want to have my own website and I don't want to be a hundred cent relying on one company so I have an issue with any of those I can switch to a different provider I also want to build my own customer base where it with teespring technically they are teespring customers despite the fact you can send them a couple of marketing messages I still want to build my own customer base that I have full access to and full control of and finally if I do want to branch out and offer additional dropship and products that might complement my clothing range then I can do that on their own website whereas with T spring I'm only limited to the products at T spring so so T spring is very very appealing in the short term and is the model I'm gonna be using to test this business however in the long term I don't think it will be the provider I stick with so based on the information I've just given you with a self what date and choosing t spring this is what my to-do-list now looks like sorry research the suppliers I've got the four suppliers I mentioned previously and also T spring which I discovered in the last couple of weeks I've ordered samples I've got five samples coming in total two of which have arrived I've also chosen my company name and I was able to get both the calm and the dr. UK now at the moment having those domain names isn't massively important because people will be directed to my teespring URL however in future when I do launch my own website I want to have the dot-com in case I decide to sell outside of the UK so if I start targeting somewhere like America or Canada having a dot-com with much much better than someone with a Cody Kate trying to sell in those locations I've also continued my research of print and mud and Facebook advertising and I think throughout this business model this will never go green these will be in permanent state of orange as I'm going to be researching print-on-demand and Facebook advertising at all stages that I'm still involved in this business model you can see that I've made the returns policy red for now because it's not something I'm going to focus on too much all the time that I'm using teespring but it is something that I'll go back to and spend more time on when I consider launching my own website at some point in the future I've had my logo designed I did get it designed on Fiverr however I wasn't a hundred percent happy with how it looked so I did spend a couple of hours one afternoon this week designing my own logo now I'm not saying you shouldn't use Fiverr for your logo because I've used it many times in the past with great success and the logo that I did get this week was actually pretty good but it didn't quite look right when I uploaded it to my teespring website and these guys are only making 15-20 pounds so I didn't want to come down in too hard so I just signed off that logo paving the money there's been a bit more time myself designing my own logo which I'm now I'm very very happy with sample comparison is in progress like I showed you early in the video two of the samples have arrived I have chosen my initial provider who is teespring this is what I'm using for my viability test to ensure that this business model is still viable in 2020 and also that it still works for me and my design and marketing skills I haven't made huge progress on the 10 t-shirt designs that I want to have in place before I launch the website however I have created a nice little template that I can use so I can sit down any around the house and just sketch out some designs when those ideas come to me now you see that I've got reverse in brackets now what do I mean by reverse when it comes to designing t-shirts now traditionally when you're designing the product you come up with the idea and then you find the audience on Facebook to market to now my understanding from watching a number of videos on print-on-demand that the best ways to succeed with print-on-demand is to find the audience first and then design for them so the design process needs to be done in Reverse you need to use Facebook audience insights to find the people that you want to target with at least a couple of overlapping interests so you can then design t-shirts for them so that when you set up and launch those adverts on Facebook they'll be very very targeted hopefully low cost and hopefully high converting so that's why I put it in reverse and anyone that's considering starting designing their t-shirts and make sure you do your audience research first so you know who exactly who you are designing for I haven't made any progress on photography as a designs aren't ready yet but I still plan to use place it dotnet to creating my professional photography once those designs are ready I've also signed up for a teespring store I've created my storefront and I've uploaded a demo honest money product and that's what I did with all of the other providers uploaded an honest money designs so that when these t-shirts come they'll have exactly the same bright pink design on both a black and a white t-shirt so that I can compare them all on an equal footing I've also taken the first steps of setting up another Facebook page I've got lots of other Facebook pages for my other businesses but I've set up a new Facebook page for the new business and I've been continuing my research into Facebook Ads as that is what's going to make or break this business because no matter how good my t-shirt designs are if I can't get my marketing on point it probably won't succeed and finally once all that stuff is done I'll be ready to launch the business so that's my update that's where I am with my print-on-demand journey I've got more samples on the way I've chosen teespring as my initial provider I've got my company name I've got my domain names and I've opened my teespring store and I'm just about to start the designing of the t-shirts themselves so hopefully you guys found this useful if you did I'd really appreciate you could scroll down and hit that like button that would be massively massively appreciated also if you do want to follow my print-on-demand journey make sure you subscribe to the channel and I'll see you guys in the next video
