Hello everybody! This video is about how to recover Windows 10 registry from a backup copy. Windows 10 operating system has a built-in database of system settings and programs, known as registry. Inexperienced users are not recommended to make any changes to the registry, delete or add settings as it can result in system failures and the need for Windows 10 registry recovery. Numerous registry errors and incorrect work can also cause the system to become inoperable and even stop booting. Windows 10 automatically backs up the registry every 10 days, and this copy is stored in the folder “Local disk C (where the operating system is installed) /Windows/System32/config/Regback". You can also adjust manually how backup copies are created, with the help of Task Scheduler. To do it, go to Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Task Scheduler. Next, click on Task Scheduler Library / Microsoft / Windows / Registry, and after you right-click on the line “RegIdleBackup” press “Properties.” In the “Triggers” tab click on “Create” and select the settings you need. For example, “On Schedule,” “Weekly,” “Every first week on Saturday” and click OK. After that, Windows 10 will automatically create a registry backup copy based on your settings. You can restore the registry from an automatically created backup copy with the help of the command prompt started in the System Restore Environment. In order to enter the System Restore Environment, you can use a recovery disk, a boot disk or a flash drive, and you can also get there after three failed attempts to start Windows 10 when the restore environment starts automatically (I have spoken about all these methods im my previous videos). In the restore environment, click on Troubleshoot / Advanced options / Command Prompt. As the system disk letter may be other than C, you should enter the command “Diskpart” and then “list volume.” Now let’s see which letter indicates the system disk (in my case this is disk C) and type in “Exit.” Then enter this command: Xcopy c:\windows\system32\config\regback c:\windows\system32\config, press “Enter” and confirm replacement of registry files from a backup copy by pressing the Latin letter “a.” After the process is over, close the command prompt and restart the computer to see if the system operability was restored. You can also create a backup copy of the registry and restore the registry manually by using such copy. To do it, start the “Run” function (press Win + R), enter the command “regedit” and click OK. I would like to note that this method is only suitable if you want to restore the registry sections which are not used by the system. Now, click once on “Computer” and select “Export” in the tab “File.” Specify the path where you want to save the backup copy (in my case, it is “Documents”), specify the file name, for example, “Backup” and click on “Save.” You should wait until the registry copy is saved.
