good morning everyone and thank you for attending our Fusion life cycle or PLN 360 new product development webcast my name is Barbie mahavakya I'm the director of business development here at synergism an Account Manager for many of the customers on the phone today we do appreciate you taking the time to sit with us as part of our webcast series on educating our customers around what manufacturing businesses are doing to help themselves become best in class today our presenter is Scott Storch he's our PLM application consultant and we're very excited to have him start this webcast for you this is considered part one and you'll be seeing more invitations to these educational webcasts along those same lines we want to make sure that we're inviting all of you who are on this webcast to attend synergist university which is taking place next week next Wednesday June 1st at these sands in Bethlehem that is a full day of learning it's a full day learning event and we're very excited about that session also because we have many of the Autodesk team coming in to talk about what they're seeing happening in the manufacturing industry and how business is changing today so today's webcast is going to focus on challenges that are facing their customers our customers with new product development and how is Autodesk helping customers address those things many customers when they're looking at new product development faced challenges on collaboration or cross organisation collaboration they face challenges on how are they becoming better innovators how do they grow their their team and how do they share that data across team members just additionally how do they know that they're reaching the market and being the best in class and getting their their product out to market sooner than their competition so what we're seeing today is customers looking to Autodesk and to other tools to help them really make sure that their new product development initiatives are being met and today Scott is going to focus on how PLM or fusion lifecycle can help you do that so our session is going to go about 35 to 40 minutes and at the end of that session we will open up the call to have question and answers so please submit your questions in the question portion over on the right hand of your screen you'll see an area where you can submit questions we want to make sure that this is for you and you're getting out of this webcast what you need so with that I'm gonna turn it over to Scott you're ready to go morning everyone welcome to our fusion wife's like a webinar it is the first part of a three-part series this one is going to be focused on new product development or new product introduction thank you for taking time today to attend the webinar my name is Scott Stewart I am the PLM application consultant at synergists relatively new to synergists has spent the previous 20 years of my career as an engineer a few companies all of which manufactured products of different types of my previous employer I led a successful PLM software deployment which is what ultimately led me to my position here at synergists I'm hosting the webinar today from our offices in Quakertown I think all the attendees are from the same region during the presentation has Barbara indicated the microphones will be muted if you do have questions please use the chat panel there is a dedicated question-and-answer session at the end of the webinar and Micronesians lasts right around 30 minutes or so but let's get started so first item to cover as of last week PLM 360 is now called fusing lifecycle so maybe I've already answered a question people have in their heads Fusion is Autodesk product innovation platform comprised of their cloud connected tools it's still the same feeling software it's just now being rolled into their single technology platform called Fusion so why are we here today discussing PLM the simple answer is business process improvement more specifically we're going to cover the processes that surround new product development or new product introduction I assume everyone in tennis today feels there's some level of waste or inefficiencies in their processes and would like to have more resources dedicated doing value-added work I doubt many of you can simply add headcount to solve that problem so the challenge then becomes finding ways to be more efficient and effective this is where fusion lifecycle comes in basically enables resources spend more time doing and less time on non value-adding activities things like searching for product information stage gate status pass completion status related documentation reworks we were caused by errors such as designing duplicate parts unnecessary meanings for status updates and time required to very current content for those same meanings trading management reports like a TPS report and meaning manually updating schedules clerical activities topping filing gathering approval signatures manually downloading data from excel or uploading them from one system to another using life cycle reduces time to market for new products and changes to existing products so how does it do that it automates processes and product workflows provides real-time visibility satis who needs to do what by when which passing to be rescheduled or are they already late notifying process participants of required tasks including reminders and escalation capabilities providing visibility to all projects to ensure resources are focused on the same end on the same page the parties consistent stage-gate approvals evaluate progress and shine light on possible delays in the stage gate process improving productivity and productivity by reducing non-value add activities again how does it reduce non value activities process automation eliminates manual sign offs fill material tools online market tools and eliminate red lines paper thread lined paper markups advanced searching provides easy access and accurate access to Product data and documents reporting tools to reduce time spent producing manager reports and system integrations that can eliminate time-consuming and error-prone data entry using life cycle reduces cost and risk by reducing estates and rework and improving earlier design and source and decisions does this by providing easy access to data and documents improving design sourcing decisions we're talking lowers materials closed loop material management process connects problem identification corrective action and engineering changes own the one closed loop system and finally fusion lifecycle improves cash flow in two important ways first it is a cloud solution so it eliminates IT infrastructure things like hardware on-premise software and security IT staff to maintain that it also eliminates expensive add-ons but that are common with on-premise solutions with a la carte pricing for the different features of the software and it decreases item of material cost based on duplication inventory and carrying a net inventory in your system so life using life cycle versus other PLM software using life cycle is the only true cloud PLM solution that focus from the beginning of the software development was on eat abuse flexibility connectivity providing better capabilities that are only possible in a cloud-based software since fusion lifecycle is true filed and not hosted both the solutions simply shift IT infrastructure and supporting costs with a troupe of solution you automatically get access to the latest features and promise without having to perform any updates this results in significantly lower total cost of ownership compared to a traditional on-premise or hosted solution it also allows to focus our efforts on improving one system and not supporting obviously Burton scattered throughout the customer base so in my previous employment I was responsible for a on-premise software and as such I can tell you that on this slide I was not fully aware of these hidden costs after deploying dealing solution one year later it was difficult Oh back and ask for another twenty thirty thousand dollars to update the version of the software and it was a relatively minor software update but it was important to our business and then another year after that asked me for another update to occur but this time now we needed to additionally update the database licenses the server software and the hardware so the costs were much higher the second time so you know I can honestly say from my experience that I very much underestimated these hidden costs of an on-premise solution using life cycle being built for integration integrating system would kill him it's very common customer request and fusion lifecycle was built from the ground up a flat usually integrating with other tools throughout your enterprise most using life cycle customers are integrated to at least one other enterprise system region life cycles complete API is going to where make that pretty easy fast reliable and importantly easy to maintain you know with things like PDM ERP CRM and other systems and another important note is that can be done both on cloud based systems or on-premise systems so Fusion life cycles unique lab solution effectively connecting over time and people will process it as product information provides single circuit or affiliate items and their suppliers those materials documents changes and facilitates collaboration internally and externally including house life suppliers importance moving on today's specific topic new product development or new product introduction and you see both terms kind of mix throughout this presentation there are key areas of focus Pilon specifically designed to address if managed as building materials has specific change management capabilities it also manages product development process and the new product introduction process that drives that development well for smoother faster clevers and third parties particularly suppliers bringing it into your single common environment features many ways to address quality and finally helps make the phone and product development cost more visible throughout the entire development process again today we are focused on the upper right NPI process so before I kick off the software demonstration I just want to give a quick overview of fusing lifecycle workspaces and how they relate to each other workspaces infusing lifecycle contain items as common features things like a common workflow some and lifecycle common attributes and permissions that you want to assign to things today we are covering those top two workspaces product and tasks as part of the new product introduction features these workspaces can be related to the additional workspaces you see on the screen future webinars are going to cover items building materials and change management and then the quality management following on at this time it's really only important understand that all these workspace and processes are included in queues and life cycle and if that allows you to connect more information together to drive you in greater efficiency and how you do things so with that I'd like to do a demonstration of the software so now I've lost launched Fusion lifecycle using Google Chrome you can use Internet Explorer Firefox Google Chrome they are all approved web browsers to access even life cycle is also available on iPhone and Android apps it is a true Bob solution so any device that can connect to the internet in getting into fusion lifecycle whether you're off-site or external suppliers on vacation whatever you do not need to be peeing in to get into fusion lifecycle and my last software deployment beyond deployment being on premise solution having the VPN into it for external suppliers was a cold point for us to get expand the capabilities of our beyond solution so there is definitely value and not needing to be pnn and allow your external people to connect into the system what I'm demonstrating today is alive PLM tenant just like you would be using your company the only difference is this is loaded with a demonstration data set containing computer graphics parts so what a high level you know PLM three main goals of a good PLM installation is one access and visibility to reporting real-time monitoring of information and three accountability in terms of access and visibility one of the biggest problems Pilon solves is finding information there are stats out there that indicate that greater than 20% of engineer's time is spent looking for information as an engineer for 20 years I can say the best estimate on Sundays seem low and I can certainly tell you that once we had killing implemented and running finding information was not only easier but it was much more accurate so I'm gonna do a quick demonstration I'm searching for something in here and this search tool what works very similar to wait Google search looks or works I'm just gonna search for a basic connector and what those gonna do is going to search my entire tenant you give me the results of everything in the tenant that has you know something related to connector and it highlights what that what the relationship there is as I indicated earlier workspaces contain common types of items so I know I'm looking for an actual physical connector so I'm going to filter this down to just what is contained in the items in BOMs workspace so that I get just physical connectors that's what I'm really looking for and really what I'm looking for is a two and a half millimeter connector I'm going to enter that information in my first card now I've got it down to two results and we reason I show this is because if you see here this is two point five zero millimeters and this one's two point five millimeters I only entered two point five up here but got both as an answer I know of my last company you know we only had before peel and all we had the ability to search for was using ERP and I am certain that in my t ERP system I would have gotten just this single result showing the female two and a half millimeter connector and probably would have gone forward thinking there must not be a male version and we've created a new duplicate part number of this court that already existed because I missed the fact that it was two entered as two point five zero instead of two point five going back to my home page in terms of reporting and real-time monitoring of information the next field on everyone's home page is this dashboard you can customize your own reporters keep those reports to yourself you share them with other people an administrator can put out public reports for everyone to look at in this case I'm just gonna look at this there's different types of reports to line graphs pie charts I'm going to look at this one as an example this is change orders by reason and what I'm going to do is just change the display to a numeric display and what I'm looking at here as you can see is different reasons and one these and change orders that we have in this system we can highlight things if we're trying to highlight you know that quality issues are creating two of my change orders I can pull that slice of the pie out the top highlight that visually you can rotate this around a little bit again further highlight the quality issues it's really what I'm trying to focus on this data is updated live in the system you don't want to report is graded all you have to do is activate the report and the information associate so it would be current and valid so in terms of accountability the next field is my outstanding work field so Phelan shows what's important to me and helps me understand what I need to do in this field are all the tasks that I need to complete and there can be a variety of different things whether it's in this case getting a marketing or farm is document done in this case creating a change order or in this case acting on a stage a process I can see some of these have due dates assigned to them and I can also see that there is color coded flags on the left side that indicate red obviously being late and late on a couple things and this yellow or orange anything that I'm almost late on that past so all those these stage gate process and the NPI process is visibility accountability is real-time recording are all pretty significant aspects of an NPI process what I'm going to do is get into my workspaces that I mentioned earlier under the main menu you see the categories these categories product development change management supply chain etc you can name that whatever you want route them however you want and what they all contain underneath them then is workspaces and these are the two workspaces were discussing today products and tasks I'm going to go into the products workspace and what this contains is this what this contains is a list of all the products I have in development in production and it gives me a nice visual indicator of what looks like what its current state is in the new in the staging process and you know this column displays what product family same you can set different filters to make this easier right now I'm looking at all my products I can just filter that down to all I want to see is the desktop consumer version and I get it down to these two or I can look at a list of everything that's under development and then I get these five products there under the bone I'm going to go into a specific product now and with this the goal here is to get everybody on the same page marketing engineering manufacturing procurement so right off the bat at the top you see you have the part number of the product and it's description you also can see the state this has infernally in requirements definition state and then I have this red flag indicating I'm late with my workflow and I have a drop down menu of workflow actions so what this drop down menu gives me is any work elections I have available to me specifically as a user in this case I can cancel or approve it we're gonna get into that a little bit more detail soon the details tab this just has your general information item number and description next field classification this is a really powerful function of Fusion lifecycle I'm going to cover that as a topic specifically but it is a dynamic list of attributes that are associated to the items in Fusion life cycle and I'm gonna cover that in more detail soon next field down product images you can attach product images if you'd like nice quick visual reference and then I mean here we have the product team so this is all these stakeholders and those stakeholders associated to which gate so we can see you know we have engineering at some levels quality of node level procurement at a different level and then as it goes through those gates you're going to see who has approved it at those different stages so from here I'm going to go to my milestones tab and in the milestones tab you know most companies have a process that they use to organize their product development here's a report to stage gate NPI NPD product development process things like that on this page you know I see the different stages of my project when I see very quickly if it's been completed and if so what timeline has been completed on and or if it's running late this one being highlighted in red is obviously late that's when an orange is close to being late I've worked a lot of different organizations all of which had some level of a stage-gate process even the company that had a very well-defined well-organized day-to-day process challenge always seemed to be keeping people informed enough to date on where the process for that you're managing multiple different products at the same time they ship products priority shift so understanding which product was at which stage you know for the product managers maybe made sense because that's what they did all day but for us and engineering it was always a juggle or challenging to find that with Fusion lifecycle this information is updated live according to different associations in the workflow and tasks that are associated to them so going discussing workflow the next tab over approval workflow this is the approval process associated to those different stages you can see you're seeing the same names and terms used in this approval process modifying this disapproval prod moment modifying this workflow is very simple in Fusion lifecycle Fusion lifecycle comes with a default process workflow on the box and then from there you can modify or in person scratch however you want to manage it so a question for the audience considers is you have a stage of a process and if so how is that tracked and managed today so what I'm going to do in this process you can see currently I am this is highlighted in green the requirements definition so that's where we are currently at in the process I have two choices that are also highlighting green to cancel or approve final I am going to approve this you can also add comments here you can see down here is the previous approvals when they were done who signed off on them if there was comments they would also be shown here I'm just going to take a quick note in here I'm going to approve this what's going to happen is it's going to give me an error it's not a computer error what this is telling me is a task this task number 67 marketing requirements document is not completed and that has to be completed in order for it to allow me to move on to the development gate I'm going to go my tasks and deliverables tab and this is a link we mentioned products workspace and TAS workspace these are the tasks that are contained in the other workspace and they are electronically connected into this products tab and this products workspace through the testing deliverables tab so the staging and the approval workflow was looking at a high level product Status and tasks and deliverables tab for this view at the lower level tasks and again you can see here how they it has the gate that it's associated to and the way it's set up is they have to be completed in order to allow you to move forward and you can see again we have color-coded completion status whether it was complete and if it was complete if it was on time or not it's still in a review and if it's in danger of being late or if it's you know under review and still on track you can also see progress that is here compiled for downline or how much those items have been complete more questions for the audience to consider is how do you track these types of tests currently and what about the data that's associated is it to these tasks to make sure they're all completed before you move on to the next stage many companies have their a repeatable process here so you can make this a template and we have 13 different tasks shown here those 13 tasks can be saved so that every time you create a new product those 13 has automatically created and brought into that new product but they can be modified from there you can take them out you can add some new ones in if you want so it's not like it's a hard-coded in if you can't be flexible with it I'm going to go into a specific task and this is associates the development gate and this is some CFD analysis that needed to be completed so again so this is in a dip into that second but similar layout here you have the task number and description what its current state is whether it's on time or not and then what actions are available to me detail page showing you the number the description you can attach notes and an image in this case and here in the references field you see it's electronic connection back to the product that we were just in on the previous page if I look at the approval workflow this is a very simple workflow basically great the past put it under work and then complete it with percentage completions assigned to each one of those phases since these are in a different workspace allows me to have this different type of very simple workflow associated to it so if I go to the I'm sorry but are the attachments tab here what's really nice about this is we have only fast associated to the stage page status within of these tasks I can attach the results or the data that's required for that task so in this case what we need to do was we had a CFD analysis and that information then gets attached to the tasks that alone I can't tell you how much time that was saved me as an engineer every one of the products like in the previous company I work for had a very similar thing where we had repeatable tasks for every project we had customer specifications we had test data all that lot of information and every project finding that information in a sea of network folders always was a challenge so being able to directly associate that to the stage-gate process is really beneficial information so I'm going to go back to my product and something I touched on a little earlier was this classification and in this case what I want to highlight here is just there's a lot of different attributes that can be assigned to different items in the system and depending on what that item it depends on what attributes you want to assign and how many of those attributes in this case you're going to see this classification has eight different attributes with the values associated to them if I compared them this is a desktop graphics card I compare that to a this one is an automotive graphics part you see this classification only has four attributes so it's a dynamic list of attributes that as you select one attribute it gives prompts you for the next two attributes that you want to be able to filter into your your item it is very easy to configure it's very powerful you know I know it's a different killing sauce but I'm familiar with doing this kind of thing would have taken programmers and who knows what else to do that and additionally what Fusion lifecycle does with this information is when I create a new product it generates the number and description automatically it generates that description field from these classification attributes that it requires you to select up front so a question for the audience to consider is how are you taking out part numbers today and how you control uniformity and the numbers and and certainly the description going back to this product line this product you're the desktop graphics card on the other tab on show you is the attachment tab again in my product level I can attach things in this case one of the items I have attached is the 2d drawing you mentioned earlier in the presentation about doing redline markups and that kind of thing so right here infusing lifecycle I can have a 2d drawing attached and I can have comments on that drawing you know that that indicate different things it's very simple to do I can add a comment right now to this I can post it on the drawing and add these come any user can do that so it's a real dynamic information that all users can participate in to information associated to your product I can also associate three-dimensional models to my product one time I didn't get to in the product was a building material and this is something so what you can do is you can have your entire bill material associated to your end item or final syllable new item in infusion lifecycle a lot of times I've expanded down the bill of material and what I want to show you is two different columns here you know building materials items we're going to cover in the next webinar but in particular reference to an MPI process when I got PLM up and running at my previous employer this feature I used all the time and it was basically leading up to crush and launch date or what we called production launch date and we would you know we shared parts across multiple product lines so leading up the production launch date so every part need to be in release date and needed we need to understand if it was undergoing a change from a different product line that would affect this product line so very simply I can load up my entire my entire build materials associated in and I can look at this lifecycle column and scroll down this lifecycle column and make sure that everything is in production State and here I see that this one item is not and additionally this column here with this green rubber stamp this shows me if there's any active change orders on those parts so you know again my clearest experience this was incredibly valuable information that before KLM just was impossible together so understanding what these you know chain doors are and whether they're going to affect my font or not and and why this part is still in working State versus production state is very valuable for our stage eight and production launch process I'm going to go into a couple administration tools quick and the scenario I'm going to do is the one let's say that the validation testing state runs late very often at our company for whatever we you know everything but everybody we go to the validation testing stage here runs late so I am in that same work while we have seen earlier however I mean as an administrator level now and so I can modify information so by double-clicking that state I have a couple options to me and what I'm going to do is I'm gonna send notifications reminders to people that we're just not getting the work done on time so I'm gonna send a reminder every three days I'm going to repeat that four times so what I'm going to do is that's going to send an email everybody has to take action at that stage every three days and up to twelve to four times if no actions take additionally I can set an escalation I turn on the escalation feature now and I'm going to say after or 15 days if nothing's happened still what I want to do is I want to execute a transition which all these arrows are transitions available to me I'm going to transition this under return it and you send it back to the development stage because 15 days nothing is having the validation testing stage I just want to return it back to the development stage and kind of reset and that's all it takes to do that you know so as soon as I say from here that change is implemented in every project going through now on at this stage we'll have those additional notifications and escalation features in pulse one other feature i'd like to show you is delegations so in this case infusion lifecycle allows you to delegate tasks that get assigned to you while you're out now you can see here I'm on vacation from late August to early September two weeks I'm talking about and the nice thing about that is you can assign these delegations to a specific workspace inject the previous killing system I've worked in it was an all-or-nothing thing so all your assignments went out while you're on vacation or none of them got reassigned to someone and in fusion you can set workspaces so in this case while I'm on vacation I just want to make sure that anything with a change order any tasks I guess signed with the change order gets sent to someone else the other task I'm getting maybe a stage-gate approval that I have to sign off on and stuff like that I still want to manage that either well among the cases or when I get back so that's a really nice feature of this software and one last item I would like to cover is the App Store we had mentioned earlier in the presentation how fusion lifecycle comes with all these apps they don't cost anything it's very simple to install let me just click on them and you have additional workspace as an additional functionality installed and connected into your Kealing environment and I certainly can say there are some things in here that I never would have thought of managing using PLM had I had fusion lifecycle I would have installed and looked like a hero there's one here that's related to equipment calibration we were we were doing equipment calibration on most really complex difficult to manage Excel spreadsheet so management like that in killing it's much much more efficient and simple that much ends my live demonstration of the software okay hopefully I still I'm sorry Barbie so what so hopefully you have a little better in saying what PLN's all about and how fusion lifecycle can help improve your NPI or new product development process by active process are all essentially managed easily accessible from the common environment helps resolve a lot of the issues that can cause bottlenecks it connects related processes there's smooth information flow from one to another in forms one process of what happens another process a processes are much more widely visible throughout fusing lifecycle all state cores and development can seem better understand what's involved in what part they personally need to fight though stay close have them less clear visibility the status of the current process where the project plans stand and what tasks need to be implemented an informed view can also inform them proactively the email it has to do or if they need to know someone else's past has been done and finally the right information is much easier to find rather than having through a mass of odors and emails much less time is wasted some customer success this list shows some customers I have successfully implemented Fusion life cycles and the variety of industries that they are in and then here it is a few quotes from some of those customers the middle quote is particularly applicable to today's discussion from Forex give you just a minute to read that and before I get to the Q&A section of the webinar like they pointed some dedicated information out there from Autodesk they have a dedicated fusion lifecycle website you find further information about using lifecycle nkl and also if you want to get your trial that is available through that same website there's a free 30-day trial available to you and there's also a dedicated YouTube page out there that has some short videos on different topics in Fusion lifecycle so with that like open up to any questions anyone has you can use the chat feature approach a meeting if you have any questions I did get a couple questions through the webinar while we are going through this yep if you want to go ahead with the questions you have that I don't have any yard line okay the first one essentially how long would it take to get something like this up and running in reference to getting this up and running for an MPI process again everything with Fusion lifecycle comes with default workflows it comes with information already pre formatted for you to at least get a starting point with so that's close to what you want it that's close to your stage of a process and you're not doing you know massive amount of patience on you can get this up and running in a couple days each app only takes minutes to install once your time is up and running getting additional users into it is very simple so it's very very quick to get up and running obviously we need to evaluate your process you want to make a lot of significant changes to see how much more time could take but it's a very quick system together mind there's no hardware to buy or things like that and the other question I had was about off-site contract manufacturing and how they might get access to the system and how that works is there for off-site personnel or outside externally a company personnel there are third-party licenses and those third-party licenses are free and you can get them access to system giving them that license as long as you have enterprise level licensing getting third free access is very simple all you have to do is have an autodesk ID once the great throw a desk ID you add them into the system and give them the third party assign into the third party license and they are in your system hopefully that answered those couple of questions or any more I'll gladly answer any additional questions people may have a hold on one second I do have one will there be a copy of the webinar that we're able to view later and show others we are going to post this on our website correct Scott so we did record it yes I understand that it has been recorded and that we will then what we typically do here sooner just make that recording available to people after today so everyone will receive an email after this thanking you for attendance and I will ask Ellen if she can put a link in to the pre-sorted website and then it pre-recorded presentation and then it will also be on the synergists web page okay that's all I have yep okay that's all I if there are no more questions I'd like to thank everyone for attending today and you know have a good day all right thank you guys have a great day
