in this video I'm going to show you how you can use your own symbols and traffic light type of color coding to bring attention to tasks that are past your deadline we're going to do this using a combination of symbols and conditional formatting in this example I have my project time plan I have my tasks on the left hand side my start date the number of working days and using the work day function I've calculated the end date so if you miss that video I'm going to put a link to it in the descriptions below now what I want to do is take this one step further and I want to add symbols here together with conditional formatting to give me an indication on how I met have a completed these tasks which tasks am i behind on based on today's date and which tasks are upcoming and in the future and I still have time for so I want to implement three different sets of symbols and what I need is today's date so every time I open this workbook I want Excel to put in today's date and that's just the formula equals today open closed brackets now what I also need is some type of an indication on how I completed this task yes or no so I'm going to add that here and I'll just put a Y if I have completed the task so let's say for these three I have completed them so I'm going to put Y ctrl enter let's take a look at the symbols that I want to add to this what I don't want to use are the symbols that are available in conditional formatting on their icon sense I want to make this report a bit different I'm going to make it more personalized and I want to add my own type of symbols here I'm going to go to insert symbol let's take a look at symbols that are available to us here now normally I use symbols inside Ariel there's a lot of them available but this same this is something different and take symbols from wing-dings too what I want to do is for the tests that have completed I'm going to take this tick mark here okay so let's just insert it notice that it inserted a check mark I'm going to close and leave the stake a look at the character it put in I put in a P but it looks like a check mark because the Excel has changed the font of this cell to wing-dings - now if I change the font of this back to the standard font I'm going to see that character that I see here so if you're using symbols from fonts that are non-standard you have to have your cells also formatted with that font that's the one that I want if I have completed that task for tasks that are...
