hey guys welcome back to Bert's tenderness I am Robin and if you're new here we are a family channel our videos encompass all things that are our family everything from adoption to travel to homeschooling to backyard chickens everything we are a very fun-loving adventure loving family and we love to take you guys on our adventures with us so make sure that you hit that subscribe button so that you can catch up and everything we've already done and hit the bell and get notified for our future adventures today's video is a part of our adoption series and it is exactly what the title says it is to rename your child or to not rename your child that is the question [Music] it's a major decision to make in your adoption journey and it's not one to be taken lightly it's like a heated topic and some of the adoption forums because people do feel very strongly about names I mean it's a part of your identity it's a part of who you are and to change it after adoption is it's a big deal especially if you're not adopting a newborn from you know a private adoption if you're adopting through foster care like we did they've had that name from their birth to change it is an adjustment for everybody and everybody's got their own choices to make in their opinions and I support all of those options ours is as unique to us as it is to anyone else and it's as important to us as it is anyone else this is not saying that our choice is right or wrong but it's just the choices that we made that we felt was best for our family and our children we adopted four children our family was built on adoption and so I'm going to go through each child and their situation whether or not we decided to change their name at adoption and if we did where did their name come from how did we choose it all of that so I'm going to go in order of adoption Elliot was our first child we adopted and so I'm gonna start with him Elliot came to us as a newborn we've had him his entire life and we've picked him up from the hospital we took a lot of things into consideration we took into consideration in the biological family you know if you've seen our other video from our adoption series you know that biological families are us we try to keep them in the children's lives as long as it's appropriate and so obviously we're not here to like offend them or anything like that so we did take them into consideration in our decisions but ultimately it's up to us and so that's you know that's really something that I feel like needs to be said so Elliot came to us as a newborn we picked him up from the...
