hi everybody welcome to the manifold Channel today we're going to take a look at the renamed related command that's just appeared in recent builds and this is a wonderful command that now allows us to rename many components all at once using the same naming pattern and let's see how that works we're looking at a project right now which has a map and the map consists of three layers it's got a points labels layer a points layer and a raster layer and the points layer is just a drawing here it is in its own window it has a bunch of points in it and that drawing takes data from this table called points table now if you're familiar with manifold you know that one of the most powerful things a manifold is that is the ability for one thing to create a to pull data from something else to create something wonderful so the points up drawing is an example that drawings don't actually store any data this points drawing right here is basically empty all bitten all that's in the points drawing is a bunch of properties that tell the drawing what table to use for data all that all the data is actually stored in the table and what field from that table to use so if we take a look at the points table here and open up that drawing properties again we can see the drawing uses the points table and in the points table it uses the down field and that's where the geometry is all these other properties of the drawing right here are just style properties they tell the drawing how to display what it's displaying that means that when your that's a very powerful capability on the one hand because you can make multiple copies and of drawings and have multiple drawings using taking data from this same table but styling them displaying it differently differently but that does mean that typically when you want to rename stuff you want to rename the name of the drawing in the table at the same time at the same time also you can have other components like Maps for example this map right here which has the drawing and the labels layer in it as components the labels takes it some data from the drawing here's the point's drawing because the labels a component was created from the drawing that's a very convenient you just right-click on it on the points drawing and choose create new labels and I create labels that way from the drawing from the fields in the drawing but it does mean that if you change the name of the drawing you have to update the labels as well so typically if you have three closely related components like this you want to rename them all at the same time and you really don't want to do that by slow double-clicking and tediously renaming all them...
