alright so one of the issues you're going to run into with top down assembly is that naming and those those relations what you don't want to do is go into Windows Explorer and just from the standard standard window say I'm not happy with this name I'm going to call it something else and then try to open it all right so everything was pretty good up into the point that I got all these question marks alright so those question marks all of those parts are related back to this assembly but that assembly was named TD not top down alright so whatever whatever we picked up and I think I mentioned this when we started this one was the first thing you want to do before you go into the layout before you go into your first 3d sketch that's the time to pick a name and name it and then try to stay with it it may not it may not always work out but that's kind of weird where it starts alright so if I go to the the find references file not found it's looking for TD box it's looking for duty boxes looking for that's my indication that oh I renamed even though it has this name it has these connections to all these parts the references that tie back through we're not there ok so the fix is if you if you if you started off with assembly one which is typically what happens you open up assembly it picks up assembly one you start making these parts and then after you insert the virtual first virtual component you're committed to that name in effect and so I should be able to go back and if I can recover that name go back to TD box open it up it's ok it says under the the find references hey I'm good with all that number or you come over to find references figure out what it was named go back in and regain all right so that's what happens if you go out of windows explorer there's also issues with save as save as copy and continued safe is copy and open typically this this file will lose those relations this assembly will lose those external references back to the parts the new copy will consume them so I don't think save as save this copy and continue say to copy an open is a good strategy so if i needed to duplicate this for for another customer for another project my strategy would be more along the lines of let's go out of Windows Explorer let's go out of file explorer and make a duplicate copy of the folder but then we still have to have the resolve the renaming issue so once those those items get in get in place your technique is we need to find our way over to SolidWorks Explorer current versions all over to explore 2016...
