do you have a call sign that you're not particularly thrilled with and would like to change it are you aware that the fcc has a process for you to make those changes however there are rules and restrictions as to what you can use in today's video i'll walk you through what those restrictions are and take you to the fcc license manager website and walk you through screen by screen showing you exactly what to fill in and how to submit your new fcc vanity call sign so if this is of interest to you let's get started [Music] hey this is mj callsign kw3kw and welcome to another episode of ham radio made simple as you can tell i recently changed my call sign by using the fcc vanity call sign process and i thought i would share it with you today so if you like these videos please hit the like and the subscribe button because it'll help others find this channel in these videos much faster than you did so i'm going to go over today the fcc rules for vanity call signs i'm going to break down about the regional numbering system how does it work and what are the new rules applying to it i'm going to talk about the prefix and suffolk options this is real critical uh this is where i made mistakes because i didn't understand this clear enough and hopefully today i can explain it to you that you won't make the same mistakes and get denied like i did when i was trying to change mine i'm going to walk you through the process on the website of each field and what you're supposed to fill in i'll take you through timelines of how long this process is actually going to be from start to finish and finally i'll tie it into summary bullet points with some tips and things i think that you may benefit walking away from this so when you look up the fcc rules on it uh it gets kind of tricky here first of all now as of feb excuse me of april 19 2022 the fcc is now charging 35 every application that you submit if your application is quote dismissed because it it was someone already had those call signs or you didn't do it right you're out 35 so no refunds or credits whatsoever average turnaround time three weeks you can count on it i've never seen anything sooner than that and you must have your fr n number along with your password when you first went to the fcc website to try to get the number in order for you to take your test so hopefully you can find it and be able to use it to sign on here now there are rules and they can be tricky if there's an expire to cancel call signs out there and as like the older ham radio operators that are...
