in this video we're going to show you how to rename devices in device manager so that way you know it makes it a little easier for you to find what you're looking for when you're going in there troubleshooting so let me show you what i'm talking about here so to open device manager just click on start start typing in device manager it should pop up so let's say you have this audio inputs here and you want to change this from you know the generic speakers to something that makes a little more sense to identify your hardware what you could do is you right click it go to properties and you would think you'd have a section to change it right here but you actually don't so what you want to do is go to the details tab and then you want to find driver key in the list here and then this value here copy it so we're going to go over to notepad here i'm going to paste it in here just so i have it and then you want to open the registry editor and go to this key here so the easiest way is just to copy this from the description which i'll put in there and then open the registry editor same thing reg edit in the search box there [Music] and then you can just paste it in there and press enter so it takes you there so now we're going to do a search for this value here under this folder here enum so just right click it find paste it in there find next and now see how this has a friendly name uh value here so we could just double click that and we could change this to let's say uh sony speakers if we go back to device manager let me close out this box here and just do a uh scan here for hardware changes so now it says sony speakers so what you might find for other items so let's do this uh sound here let's say we want to change this to our sound card brand here so we're going to do the same thing go to properties details now we want to find driver key right there and copy this let's go back in here to the enum folder right click find paste that one in there you'll notice this doesn't have a friendly name section here but that's okay so if it doesn't have it all you need to do is find a blank spot here right click do new and you want a string value make sure you pick string value and do friendly name like that all together capital f capital n then you can double click it so let's say this is a sound blaster sound card okay so let's go back here do a refresh again here or rescan so now you got that so it doesn't...
