hello i'm reverend tondala hayward and we have some wonderful news to share with you today on january the 31st from 6 pm to 7 pm in room 101 the witness team will lead reveal reveal is a hybrid eight week study by dr jack jackson dr jack jackson is the associate professor of mission evangelism and global methodism at claremont school of theology reveal is a congregational and personal guide to help us share the story of jesus now we're here from witness team members who will tell their stories of how studying reveal transformed their lives and led to stepping stories a famous newspaper asked its readers to describe 2020 in one word the top five words were exhausting lost chaotic surreal relentless it is not surprising that most of us would use some negative adjectives to describe the past year of our lives there is something about starting a new year though a new year seems to create a new beginning a new breath a fresh start and approach to get back up to start anew and to have hope as we all are trying to regroup and start a fresh new year with a sense of searching for a way to heal and to move forward what better way to step forward than through reveal reveal what a word if something is hidden or missing or lost what an amazing feeling when what is lost is revealed reveal is as tondalas said a group study by dr jack jackson that focuses on revealing the presence and the power of god to others for me reveal has been life-saving [Music] life-changing and life-giving for those who know me my life circumstances have changed drastically and left me feeling helpless hopeless and empty with nothing to offer and nothing to give reveal opened my eyes my heart and my soul to show me that i still have the power and the presence of god and that i still have gifts to offer others that can help them in their search and their walk with god as some of you may have heard my message a few months ago one of my most personal strongest reveals is that you do not have to know what to say you have to say what you know the experience of reveal not only gave me answers hope and the tools that i need to start a fresh new outlook but it also gave me precious friendships and strong bonds of support with amazing people like mandy hi good morning my name is mandy bilbrey and i'm so excited to be able to share with you this morning how impactful and meaningful the reveal bible study was to me it really taught me how to share the story of jesus christ with other people that i don't normally engage myself with and also how to learn and examine my own story of faith and how learning your own story you're able to see how god's story intertwines with your own and how important it is to get out of your comfort zone and recognize the people that god has put in your path for a reason whether it is the person social distancing six feet away from you at the grocery store or the waiter at your restaurant really being intentional and aware of the people that god has put in your path to witness to and to share the story of jesus with and it's so important especially now to be able to know your own story and to share hope with others in a world that we're just hurting so much right now and just to be able to share that there is hope in god's son jesus but the biggest takeaway that i am still learning from the reveal bible study was the lesson on being a good listener and i can remember how profound that was to me about learning how the difference of being a good listener as opposed to just being a listener really made me focus in on being a good listener is not always just anticipating listening to somebody what you need to say in response what profound word of encouragement that you need to give but just being present with that person in the moment and spending time with them being intentional with them and listening to what they need to talk about and to share and it became so apparent to me this listening skill in my own personal life this past year as everyone has suffered so much through this pandemic my family has suffered so much tragedy and so much hurt from the painful discovery of our son's heroin addiction to my mother being diagnosed terminally ill with cancer and my father-in-law was sick in the hospital suffered a stroke and due to covet regulations we were not able to be with him the last three months of his life and the isolation that he must have felt being alone and lastly watching my father being tested positive for covid and being so fearful in his recovery but just how meaningful it was for family and friends and church members and co-workers who reached out to me and were present with me in my moment and took the time to really listen to what i had to say and in those moments brought healing to me and also brought me to the realization that my story continues to change over time and being able to see how god reveals himself in such an amazing way through the power of people listening to you and it comes full circle with the bible study being able to share the story of jesus being able to share your story being able to listen and in that time of listening i've truly felt the holy spirit with me and the bible tells us to be still and know that i am god and in those moments of being still and knowing when not to speak and just be a listener is able god for god to reveal himself to us so i'm just really excited for other people to learn about this amazing bible study taking time to listen to others is a way to communicate love thanks melissa and mandy for revealing
