hey everybody how you doing today I figured I'll do a video on how to save money on shipping with the post service because I know many of you out there doing trades and you're probably doing eBay and stuff like that so I'm gonna do a overall summary of how you can save money on shipping through the Postal Service so the first way to save money on shipping is to print the shipping label at home so it could save you a trip to the post office as well and save you some time in order to do that you're going to need the following items you're gonna need a box a printer a weighing scale some glue and the packaging tape and scissors I will cover more in detail as to how you can get like things like the printer and the weighing scale tape and all the stuff later in the video and we'll leave links in the description box below but what we first need to do is to understand the rates between first-class mail and Priority Mail the main difference between first-class mail and Priority Mail is that first-class mail is cheaper but the package must be up to 16 ounces once it exceeds 17 ounces you must use Priority Mail now Priority Mail is more expensive but has faster delivery times than first-class mail so let's take a look at the rates for a first-class mail now these are the rates when you go to the post office you pay over there so up to four ounces it's $3.00 and anywhere from five ounces all the way up to 16 ounces you see all the rates go up incrementally little by little okay so this is first-class mail rates when you go to the post office now when you use eBay is shipping label service you get a special discount which is called the commercial rate here up to four ounces is 2061 cents and from five ounces to I guess eight ounces here it's two dollars and seventy seven cents notice that if you're at the post office you're gonna constantly pay a little bit more based on the ounces here as it goes up but with eBay it's a flat two dollars and seventy seven cents up to eight ounces from nine ounces to sixteen announces it goes up incremental e so regardless you're gonna still get a really nice discount here through eBay is shipping label service twelve percent to forty percent depending on the weight of your package now you're probably asking how do you get the commercial shipping rates when you're not really selling an item on ebay you just want to send a package to your friend or something right well the answer to that is use PayPal shipping service in order to print the shipping label inside PayPal it's much easier to use the special link I provided in the description box below and once you are ready to charge the payment on your shipping use a 2% cash back credit card rather than charging it onto your PayPal balance that you already have or through your checking account that's linked to your PayPal account all right so let's take a look at the Priority Mail rates the small flat rate box is seven dollars and fifteen cents at the post office PayPal is six dollars and forty-five cents and eBay is even a little cheaper I just noticed that eBay's shipping price is a little bit better than the PayPal prices so you know they probably have something worked out with eBay and the postal Postal Service but you get that you get the picture you get to save a little bit more when you use Priority Mail rates in particular I like to use the padded flat rate envelope with a particular box inside any box that you can put inside and I'm going to show you which boxes that I use but for the most part I think a lot of you use a small flat rate box and sometimes the medium one the medium one there's two different sizes and the large flat rate box I don't know how many people use that one but these are the most popular ones including the flat rate envelope so what I'll do later is to show you how you can get these Priority Mail boxes for free all you have to do is just create an account with the Postal Service website and they'll send it to you for free to order the boxes you need to create an account with us PS com I'll leave a link to this page you can just fill it out and register and then once you have your account and you sign in you can go to the USPS comScore to order the supplies for free now some of the ones that I'll recommend here you have your regular flat rate mail envelope just in case you need to send documents or just you can even send actually a gold coin in there right this is the flat medium flat rate box this is the number 2 version which is kind of like on the flatter side that with the bigger one I'll show you if I can find it on here Priority Mail padded flat rate envelope this is another good one to have you could pretty much stuff as much as you want in there and then this is the small flat rate box definitely get this one because I'm sure anyway many of you use this to send stuff out you see here now I also recommend this one here Priority Mail box and this is not a flat rate mail box it's just the regular Priority Mail box when you can take this one and stuff it into the padded mailer envelope that I showed you before to get the flat rate okay now this one is a little bit bigger than a small flat rate box so if for whatever reason you can't fit everything into the small flat rate box just use this one and then stuff this one into the pattern mailer envelope and just in case you have a lot to send this is a very popular one it's a medium flat rate box it's not flat like the other one that was the number two I showed you before this is the number one so this one's pretty good this I think it's about thirteen twelve or thirteen dollars to send it but there's one more I want to show you which is amazing it's called the Priority Mail regional rate box a one this one is slightly smaller than the medium flat rate box and it's not exactly flat rate but I'm going to show you the rates for this one when you calculate the rates for your box it's going to depend on the zones more so than the weight the weight is up to 15 pounds with the regional a box they also tell you what the B is and the bees a little bit bigger but if you're sending to zone one it's only six dollars and 52 cents whereas if you were gonna send the medium flat rate box that's like 12 13 dollars right so you almost save 6 6 bucks so based on the zone where you're shipping it to obviously if it gets really like far out to like zone 7 8 & 9 Center costs more so the flat rate box the medium flat rate box might be better but for the most part it's probably gonna be within zone 1 to 5 probably maybe even 4 okay so definitely check out that regional a one box that's a really nice box that I just discovered recently and I wish I had been using it more because I would send packages with the medium flat rate box paying double the price so in order to use this Priority Mail region box a unfortunately you cannot use PayPal to ship it because they don't give you a choice for this box but you can use the mail and ship click and ship service from USPS comm so let me show you how that works when you log into your account you're gonna see this page where it says return address just fill the address of yours I guess your place in this case I'm using an example where Jeff Bezos from Amazon is sending something to somebody okay and then over here is the - to address so I'm gonna send it to a John Doe in a you know fake peel box California Los Angeles 9 0 0 0 1 and then you have shipping at Monday and then I have enter package wait I put 3 pounds now don't use I am shipping flat rate because regional box a is based on zone the weight is actually up to 15 pounds so it doesn't matter you don't really have to weigh anything unless you think it's more than 15 pounds ok so I put 3 pounds 5 pounds it doesn't really matter as long as it's up to 15 pounds and I put a value of the package is just put $100 right so when you come down here just click view available services and prices and they'll give you a bunch of different ones here Priority Mail choose your own box flat rate blah blah blah and then we're gonna go all the way down see Priority Mail medium flat Rex's 1360 right here it is Priority Mail regional box a is eight dollars and fifteen cents so that's a nice five dollar savings by using the regional rate box a so we covered the various boxes that Priority Mail offers as well as the rate for Priority Mail and first-class so now that we have the package ready how do you print the labels right so you're gonna need to have a printer waste scale some glue tape and scissor so let's cover how you can get some of these for a good price so let's start off with the weighing scale the one that I like and recommends I have this one as well it's the way max2 82-75 okay so it's about twenty bucks you can get one in this color this one says blue they have a black one and this one is I think it's great even though it says gray this is it's a blue light blue color but it's great it's not really blue so I'll leave a link to this listing here so that you can get this one it you can do it up to seventy-five pounds that's why I says - seventy-five they do have a model for thirty-five pounds but it's only like $2 difference so might as well get this one and what I like about this is that me see here click on this what I like about this is that it gives you the AC adapter all the choice to use a nine volt I use the nine volt because I can move the scale around from place to place without worrying about having a plug so I use the nine volt there and that usually lasts a long time but it also does pounds and ounces and then it also does the kilogram so you can use one of the other for the most of you who are living in United States it's you're going to want to pounds and ounces so highly recommend this one so I will a link in the description for this one here as well okay now to print the shipping label obviously you can need a printer for printing labels and just labels all you really need is a black and white printer and that's gonna be really cheap somewhere around 30 bucks but if you want more options which I think most of you will this month looks pretty good Wireless all-in-one printer 60 bucks and it's got a lot of good ratings here if you don't want epson you could get HP and get Canon whatever you know you think is best suited for your situation perhaps you might want a smaller one because you have less space in your apartment however it is your situation and if you have a bigger budget you can consider a laser printer you can choose maybe something like this 379 it's a little bit more money I think I got something like this one here I think I got this one for under $200 at one point you know I don't know how this is four hundred eight dollars when I got it for 200 something so who knows now to get the rest of these things like glue tape and scissor and even like boxes that are not Priority Mail eBay is probably the best place to get some of these things but sometimes you might even get a better deal at like a Costco or a BJ's some of those warehouse club you know stores might have it for like if you buy a bulk you buy you know you get to buy for a good price so I'll show you the tape here so what I normally do is type scotch packaging tape on the top and search for the six-pack like this one and I remember seeing it for like $11 sometimes and this one has a best offer so you might be able to get it for a little cheaper who knows you know what I like these because it has the you know the little razor edge that you don't need to use the scissor to cut the tape okay so get something like this for packaging tape and glue sticks I get something like this you can get a 4-pack for 269 free shipping or you can go to like Staples something and see if they have something similar so that's that's nothing you know major here but you know couple of dollars for glue sticks so if you want to buy them in the packs you can do so as well all right so I'm sure you already have a pair of scissors in the house but friend of mine told me this Fiskars scissors are pretty good I never heard of it or tried it but kind of interested in getting one because I do have a lot of cheap scissors that don't work so well so I might get this one here they only have five available here now if you're shipping a lot of items that are gonna weigh several ounces and not too much more than that you're probably going to want like bubble mailers I particularly like these Polly bubble mailers because they're plastic and it protects from the weather and the elements if it's snowing or raining and might wet you know get get the package wet but it will protect anything inside so I think these are like this one here 2654 250 so I don't know maybe around 11 cents per pack here but definitely check the size I don't know how big or small you want it so it's just shop around for bulk Polly bubble mailers and if you have items that are kind of like not flat and you need it to put it in a box and it's not gonna fit in bubble mailers the best way to go is to get these boxes I just put six by six by four by it as an example but you can type different dimensions and you have a listing of different boxes and I think boxes are a little bit more expensive probably about 30 cents each give or take depending on the listing for about 200 well here's a hundred six by six by four and you're paying two for two two twenty four dollars and thirty cents so it'll come out to about twenty four twenty four cents a box and one more suggestions that I have to save some money is just by saving your boxes that you get from stuff that order and kind of leave them to the side until you need to send something out and you know peel off these labels and stuff like that and also the the inside like air air bubble thingies or peanuts or whatever is inside the box like a stuffer the package stuffer just save those as well and just reuse them you know so that you don't have to even buy those boxes that I just mentioned before so I hope you got some value out of this video and if you did give it a thumbs up here on the bottom right and subscribe if you're new to the channel and if you have any comments or questions just leave them down below and all the relevant links will be in the description box down below this video alright thanks for watching guys
