Save byline conclusion

today i'm going to talk about how to end your argumentative essay with a great conclusion paragraph i am going to show you a rather unique way of thinking about your conclusion paragraph that if you follow will be a game changer for your entire essay also this video is part one of a two-part series on conclusion paragraphs so make sure you watch both videos i'm going to give you multiple examples talk about good structure and outline for your conclusion paragraph as well as the best time to write your conclusion paragraph so in order to end well let's get started [Music] let's talk about the purpose of your conclusion paragraph and your essay first off i say paragraph but it can be more than one paragraph rather than think about your conclusion as a paragraph i want you to think about it as a last section of your essay the goal of your conclusion paragraph is to summarize the main points of your essay and then tell them why it's important do not i repeat do not add any new information to your conclusion paragraph it's not the time to be like oh wait i forgot one last thing let me add it here think about any movie or tv show you've seen it can be great but if the ending is terrible it ruins the whole thing for example my wife and i love the show chuck they did such a great job through five seasons building up the characters and making the show super epic but the end is so disappointing to be honest after watching the last episode of the entire show i was devastated for weeks maybe you can relate i know it's just a tv show we put some emotion and time into it invested in the characters only to be left unsatisfied by a terrible ending i say all that to prove a point that your ending matters you spent all this time writing a great essay don't rush to the conclusion just because you want to finish the goal is to be clear organized and wrap your essay up in a nice pretty bow in order to do that let's talk about the structure and outline of your conclusion paragraph i want to show you something that's going to change the way you think about your conclusion paragraph and other than your thesis which you actually write first i suggest you write your introduction and conclusion at the same time after you write your entire essay because they're deeply connected let me show you first let's look at the structure of your introduction paragraph you start off with a great hook and then you transition to your background information and then you have your question and then lastly you have your thesis statement just like you end your introduction paragraph by stating your thesis the first sentence in your conclusion paragraph will be where you restate your thesis you're not going to add or change the meaning of your thesis but the goal is to remind the reader the main goal of your essay in a fresh way next you're going to write your summation now i want you to ask yourself does the word summation look similar to another word we use a lot in writing okay summertime no submarine really uh something nice try it's related to the word summary the goal here is to give a basic summary of the main arguments and points that you made throughout your whole essay in the background information section of your introduction paragraph you tell the reader what they need to know in order to understand your essay before they read it now in your summation you remind the reader what they just learned from reading your argumentative essay you're basically reminding them why you're right and the other side is wrong again only summarize the ideas you already covered in your essay it's not the time to add a new argument or idea to your essay and just like you started your introduction paragraph with a hook to connect to the reader you're going to end your conclusion paragraph by connecting to the reader with a mic drop or call to action the ideas in your hook and your mic drop will be connected which is why you want to write them at the same time the goal here is to tell your reader why is it important and how does it relate to their daily life and if you take a step back and look at the outline of your introduction and conclusion you might start to realize they follow a similar pattern just in reverse i like to think about your conclusion as your introduction just upside down i think it's better to think about your introduction is your conclusion upside down same thing whatever the goal here is to look at the structure of both and to see the bigger picture if you understand how they connect it's gonna help the flow of your entire essay before we move on if you found anything helpful and what i've just said consider smashing the like button and hitting subscribe or not awkward now let's take a look at an example of how to restate your thesis first take a look at my example thesis for my introduction paragraph although there are many superheroes in the dc universe batman stands alone as the greatest of all time too often i see students just copy and paste their thesis from their introduction to their conclusion paragraph do not do this oh so i can just copy and paste it did you hear what i just said okay i could say dc plus marvel universe no because that would change the meaning of your argument so what if i just added because and then listed a couple reasons you could do that but just keep it simple okay i got it this time i'll delete although and stand alone as that's good right again you're missing the points it's the same thing let me take it from here first off think about the main point of your thesis statement in my example the whole point of my thesis is to say that batman is the greatest let's try this in conclusion no one can match the greatness of batman or in final analysis batman embodies everything a hero should be notice i keep it short i don't change the argument or meaning of my thesis statement and i use sentence starters check out the video description because in it include a presentation where i have tons of different sentence starters for you to use in summary the goal of restating your thesis is to think about the main idea of your thesis statement and just state it in a fresh way you're reminding the reader what you just proved to them so keep it simple and don't overthink it as you finish up writing your restated thesis i want you to think through these questions to edit and revise your work do you summarize the main idea of your thesis statement do you say it in a fresh way do you make any of the common mistakes by changing the whole thing just adding a couple of different words or just copying and pasting it also check your spelling and grammar now we get to the conclusion of my video on conclusion paragraphs wow that's kind of deep in conclusion remember this is video one of a two-part series in the next video we'll talk about how to write your summation your call to action and wrap it up in a nice pretty bow check out the video description for free resources make sure to like the video comment below if you have any questions and hit subscribe adios [Music] you
